Acting Job

Can someone help me plan out a future of broadway acting lol. I belive this is wat i wanna do with my life but i always like advice. What do you think >?

glatt 06-14-2006 08:16 PM

One idea. You could go around to message boards and "act" like you are a regular poster when you really just plan to spam them later.

sycomunkeyx, practice, practice, practice.
What acting have you done?
What are you taking in school?
You watched the Tony Awards, didn't you?
Welcome to the Cellar. :)

1) Learn to sing...loud. On Broadway, volume and projection are everything. Later, you put some personality into your voice, and wham! You're home free. Remember Ethel Merman? Voice like a longshoreman, but she was *big* on Broadway.

2) Dance. Dance a lot. Dance well. On Broadway, if you can't dance, you're screwed. If you're a female, make sure you have long legs so that you are more impressive at cattle calls.

3) Learn to be an excellent waiter so that you don't starve or have to live outside or pimp yourself while you're struggling to get a break on Broadway.

4) Take acting lessons. Seriously.

drugs, lots of drugs

I think that being gay has been a career advancer.

I would, however, suggest paying closer attention in English class.

Also, you would do well to practice balancing large plates of small food on a round tray, misrepresenting the daily specials, and exactly the right level of hostility toward patrons who you know don't recognize your true greatness as you're only doing this until you get your big break.

What, specifically, makes you feel that you should be an actor, what type of actor and why NY?

Spexxvet 06-15-2006 08:20 AM

Let's see how well you can act. Repeat after me ....

"I coulda been a contender"

Elspode 06-15-2006 01:19 PM

"Hey, Stelllaaaa!!!"

Look man... I am a trained actor, professional and acting teacher... if you want advice I will help. Answer the questions.

You'll see.

Grif you may be right and I'll eat these words if that's proved to be the case.....or alternatively you have your cynicism dial set too high man

glatt 06-15-2006 04:22 PM

Maybe I am a bit too jaded, but he made three perfunctory posts within a minute or two and then vanished. The next step would be to come back and spam us. I may be wrong. We'll see.

And it's not fair to blame Griff for this. :)

DanaC 06-15-2006 04:27 PM

heheheh sorry. I have absolutely no idea whatsoever why I just called you Griff.
I can only apologise and say it's been a fuck of a long week:P

sycomunkeyx 06-15-2006 04:39 PM

I should put you in touch with my younger daughter...she starts as a drama major at Pitt in August.

SteveDallas 06-15-2006 10:05 PM

I can act like I care if somebody calls me to fix their computer... does that count??

Griff 06-16-2006 06:20 AM

[thespian]Sure SD, that counts.[/thespian]

No sweat, I have some documents I made for my classes that some of the majors for BA in FL Southern still use though I made it for my beginning class.
Though a phone call will be in order, some of the concepts need to be described. The difference between a internal and external objective and obstacle are not always as easy to see as you would think.
Perhaps a couple of character development classes by phone if you like.
Would be for free, I don't pay for long distance, I miss teaching & just like to see acting taught well. It is not done often.

That is fine, and remember actor is the term, regardless of sex. We don't use actress any longer.
