:eyebrow: interesting...

NoBoxes 05-26-2006 03:00 AM

The bowl is upside down. It wouldn't hold air that way.

This is why we don't permit fish to become pet owners!

:skull::fish:

skysidhe 05-26-2006 07:56 AM

You all are suppose to post your own art. I don't expect you to appreciate that thing. haha. I just happened to like it for a day.

Where is it btw?..it's not showing up.

The glass is even more evocative than her eye.

It's the mom hormones kicking in. Or you're a virgo.

mmmmm Escher

Tse Moana 05-27-2006 10:20 AM

*drools*

I absolutely love Escher! My favourites are Villa Belvedere (I think it's called that) and Waterfall though.

The rim is round which means it's not against the wall, which means the person in behind and not in the bowl, which makes your points moot. ;)

The rim appears elliptical; because, the bowl is canted towards the viewer to offset the weight of the man leaning against the inside of the bowl in the opposite direction.

The bowl isn't against a wall: it's against a mirror. This is why you don't see any fish through the bowl. Some of the fish are viewed directly; but, some of them are just reflections in the mirror. Fish think it's funny to confuse their pets that way.

The "window" the man is looking "through" is a reflection of a picture the fish have put on an opposite wall. The scene never changes, the clouds don't move. Fish like to torment their pets by giving them false hopes of escape.

It's disconcerting that you didn't recognize this trick done with bowl and mirror. It's a fish classic. You seem to be in denial! Have you ever been abducted by fish? I'm sure you'll talk about it when you're ready. :fish::unsure::fish:

xoxoxoBruce 05-28-2006 09:05 AM

You win.:lol2:

skysidhe 05-30-2006 11:37 PM

The Escher drawing is cool. How can I send it to someone?

About the fish bowl.....

I respectfully think .....it's just surrealist art and it is up to the viewer to decide what it is to them although I am pleased to see it spurred discussion.

it is entitled "print gallery". google it or search "escher" for more of his fantastic work.
some famous ones are:

Tse Moana 05-31-2006 11:13 AM

Wow! How the f*ck did they manage to recreate that in legos?

Amazing!

Happy Monkey 05-31-2006 11:36 AM

The second one is legit - the original picure isn't impossible, just wierd. The first one only works when viewed from the right angle.

Tse Moana 05-31-2006 12:06 PM

I figured something like that in regard to the first picture, it sort of shows if you look right even at this angle. But the second one's incredible.

/me wants!

I think the engineer did it. It IS either a recreation of Escher OR a good imitation of a scene from the Movie Labyrinth ( the bottom one ) and a video game. ( the top one)

Tse Moana 05-31-2006 06:31 PM

That's definitely Escher, I'm a huge fan of his work, have it hanging (postcards) on the inside of the door to my toilet...

I do think though that the bottom one might've needed some glue to attach some parts, I can hardly believe that it would all fit.

warch 05-31-2006 07:18 PM

Oh, a friend just showed me a cool kid's picture book, not of Escher, but illustrated with images that messed with space and scale like that. I'll see if I can remember it...

Tse Moana 05-31-2006 07:19 PM

That'd be cool, I seriously dig stuff like that.

The above artwork is my absolute favorite piece. There's so many layers...it's symbolism so rich...the composition so classic yet so fresh...

You know, I'm not so sure that Star Wars rock star painting was such a good example of art.

But I think this somewhat bucolic scene is worthy. Inspirational, even.

Buddug 06-07-2006 01:39 PM

Please elucidate , Brianna . I see anthropomorphism , not symbolism . And layers ? What layers ? And what on earth does 'classic' mean ?

wolf 06-07-2006 01:40 PM

Wow, glatt. The subtlety of the imagery is breathtaking.

Buddug 06-07-2006 01:42 PM

Bucolic ? A bunch of dogs playing cards in a stuffy room ? If they were running around with Bo-Peep , fine . But they aren't .

Ah, I love H. R. Giger.

Buddug 06-07-2006 01:52 PM

OK , wrong picture . Now I see an armless bloke on a river-bank having a fag . It's still not bucolic , thank God . I hate bucolic . But the painting is appalling anyway .

Are you Americans taking the piss ? Is this meta-meta-meta art humour or what ?

Trilby 06-07-2006 02:05 PM

Oh, I think we're taking the piss, sweetie :D At least I know I am...now, the others...

Buddug,
I'll admit that the damaged Terminator in the image I posted does take away from its bucolic nature. However, the clouds, sunbeams, river, trees, and meadow full of wildflowers are all classic aspects of that genre. In my defense, I did say it was "somewhat bucolic."

And yes, I'm also taking the piss. (If that means what I think it does.)

Buddug 06-07-2006 02:30 PM

Anyone who sees and likes clouds , sunbeams , rivers , trees , meadows , wildflowers is fine by me , Glatt . The picture itself matters less to me than your appreciation of it .
Wildflower smiles to you , Glatt .

I thoroughly love H.R. Giger.
I have unsuccessfully attempted to buy the H.R. Giger Tarot deck off ebay several times.

One of my friends has this deck. She finds it "too disturbing" to take out of the box on an irregular basis. I am hoping that this feeling eventually morphs into a desperate need to get the Damned (two syllable pronounciation) out of her house.

skysidhe 06-09-2006 08:57 AM

@ jinx, quite a sad clown there. Where is it from?

Me too. Is this it?

wolf 06-09-2006 06:47 PM

Yes, that's the one. H.R. Giger's work is very distinctive. He has a way of making two parallel lines look disturbing. No other artist can quite capture that. I recognized his imprint on Alien before I saw his name in the credits.

I've got a thing for fieldstone and belted galloways. I'm not fond of the trees in this particular print though, he (Sculthorpe) usually does them better.

H. R. Giger is beyond a shadow of a doubt my favorite artist. He combines horror, sci-fi and erotica seamlessly into a freakish yet beautifully perfect world of biomechanics.

I knew he was either a very famous clown or I saw it on a paint my number once ( or both) I thought if you were attached I was loathe to mention the paint my number though:P
I know I've seen 'Weary Willy' in my youth many times. ( thanks for the tip bruce)

Interesting subject jinx. I'll save any pictures with those characteristics I stumble upon.....I like antique prints and flower prints but I don't actually have many on my walls.

I was thinking you or anyone else who likes art and surfing the web to come to 'stumbleupon' One can send art or pages to people you think might enjoy them.

This is my page.

I used to be really into fantasy and sci fi when I was in college. Be careful. In a few years you'll be drying flower specimens and preserving them in glass. :P

Ibby 06-10-2006 10:47 AM

I'm not so into scifi/fantasy, really, but Giger is a god.

haha! We think alike! It is nice to see that people on this site like to rib lightly like I do and don't take it seriously. I wanted to say that outloud too but was not sure. I am gun shy from being labled a hildabrand.
