Brother Derek and Lawyer Ron are the favorites, but you'll see, i'm very good with horses, barbaro will beat them both ....for all you who will wager, stay away from the two favorites as they will not show, look for a longershot to place alongside barbaro.

btw ,i'm b4djkl of course

Race? What race?

I went to ten derbys in a row once. Never saw the race.

Yeah, my 5 year old daughter managed to pick the winner too.

W.HI.P 05-07-2006 04:07 PM

yeah, but did she make a fortune off the race

jinx 05-07-2006 07:40 PM

Nope, only $5 from each person in the pool... which is a fortune to a 5yo I guess, so yeah. The bragging rights are much more valuable though.
I assume you did win big though, whip - congrats!

W.HI.P 05-08-2006 10:48 PM

thanks jinx, yeah it was good... i'm happy for the young one, she has instinct.
i've already lost 2 thirds of my winnings in the past two days on the oilers the senators and some stupid baseball bets ;p, so my joy has been short lived.

i won't bet on another race until dubai.

blessed be jinx

I've watching some of the early races on ESPN. The track looks really wet. A couple of the races were in the mud, some were on the grass in-field. I have no idea why. Maybe the crapy horses get to run in the mud.

jinx 05-02-2009 12:45 PM

I picked Desert Party but I think Ripley's pick, Pioneer of the Nile will win it.

TheMercenary 05-02-2009 03:39 PM

Ok, I am tired of this pseudo-red-carpet-hand glading. When's the damm race?

TheMercenary 05-02-2009 05:32 PM

heh. 50:1 Mine That Bird. Someone got really rich.

jinx 05-02-2009 06:09 PM

Spencer won $50. The little jerk...

Clodfobble 05-03-2009 01:33 PM

I don't follow this stuff, but doesn't this make several years in a row that a longshot underdog won the race?

Shawnee123 05-03-2009 06:28 PM

My ex was over at the time of the race (see rant about DVD/DVR) and had been suckered into a drawing, where he had drawn Pioneer of the Nile. Not a bad bet. So, when the race was on, I thought he might win some money. Then, out of nowhere except the inside lane, came Mine That Bird. It was so exciting. I've been to Lexington, and it's beautiful, and I loved it that a 50-1 horse rocked it.

Beestie 05-03-2009 07:00 PM

I keep waiting for somebody to name their horse 'Stupid Ass Name.'

The only problem, of course, is that no one would know which horse you were talking about.

Giacomo won at 50-1 a few years ago... but the/a favorite has won more often than not in the past several years (Big Brown, Barbaro, Smarty Jones etc), and they used to say the favorite never wins.

His mudder was a mudder!

Paddy O'Prado is gorgeous, but I'm going to go by name and my pick is:

Backtalk!

classicman 04-29-2010 01:16 PM

5. Line of David (Rafael Bejarano)

Clodfobble 04-29-2010 02:31 PM

Horse racing is like the opposite of football, you have to pick the player with the most normal name... so I'm going with number 17, Dublin.

lumberjim 04-29-2010 02:41 PM

I suppose your brain told you that theory?

Clodfobble 04-29-2010 02:49 PM

Of course, it tells me all its gambling secrets.

Undertoad 04-29-2010 03:09 PM

The winner is the one with the best nickname for a wang.

"Sidney's Candy" fine for Sidney but what about the rest of us
"Jackson Bend" a strong contender, but may turn uncomfortable
"Super Saver" terribly unfortunate...
"Looking at Lucky", doesn't quite fly, if it were just "Lucky" that would work, but...
"Conveyance" that's just horrible.

I'm going with "American Lion", with place to "Noble's Promise" and show to "Stately Victor".

LJ 04-29-2010 03:25 PM

Have you ever beheld a Stately Wang?

Undertoad 04-29-2010 03:31 PM

No but I'm sure its owner finds it to be most admirable.

Shawnee123 04-29-2010 07:26 PM

Using UT's logic, Jackson Bend sounds like a good choice. Can I pick that one to place? For show I'll take Dean's Kitten, because kittens are always darling!

For expediency:

Win: Backtalk
Place: Jackson Bend
Show: Dean's Kitten

I'm gouing with Conveyance because UT thinks it's horrible

Nirvana 04-30-2010 01:14 PM

Stately Victor to win place or show. With a name like that how can he lose? ;)

DigitalNonsenseReadr 05-01-2010 09:14 AM

Ice Box, Super Saver, and Paddy O'Prado for the trifecta box.

I picked Super Saver to be in the money. because I was really impressed with Calvin Bo-rail's super upset victory at last year's Derby on Mine That Bird.

Spexxvet 05-01-2010 10:29 AM

1. Sidney’s Candy (Joe Talamo)
2. Stately Victor (Alan Garcia)
3. Discreetly Mine (Javier Castellano)

I saw video of another one that must've been scratched - Eskendereya. I would've picked him to win.

lumberjim 05-01-2010 05:45 PM

so who won? some jerk off customer has commandeered our tv to watch Obama speak or some fucking shit.

wolf 05-01-2010 05:46 PM

Super Saver. Calvin does it again, same kind of really patient race that showed he read the track and knew his horse.

Outstanding.

Although I was really hoping for Noble's Promise because of the awesome story.

nice picks, dude. None of them are really good wang names, though....

DigitalNonsenseReadr 05-02-2010 08:21 AM

I give you the winning trifecta, and all you got is dick on your mind. Where's the gratitude? Where's the praise? Where's the... "DNR, you mad fucking genius, I'll never doubt you again"? :biggrinpi

monster 05-02-2010 08:45 AM

that is high praise from me. Now shorten your user name and I'll consider further praise.

DigitalNonsenseReadr 05-02-2010 09:06 AM

I should change my name to please you??? You got a better chance at winning the lottery...

monster 05-02-2010 04:39 PM

or the derby....

Heh. My wife had the sports section and I asked her "who won?" I though she said "Super Saber" and I was really impressed at how much of a wang name that was. We had a short painful conversation where I was explaining the whole Cellar wang name theory before she corrected me and said it was "Super Saver" not "Super Saber." A real Emily Litella moment. Never mind.
