The server is too busy at the moment. Please try again later.
ok. sick of seeing that now.
|
I thought for sure that it would have died down today, but it's getting worse.
Over 1,400 guests? damn. |
Beestie is out of the Cellar and will return later. Please contact lumberjim at cock!@cock.com for further assistance.
. |
I finally understand Beetsie's signature.
|
ok, it's NOT just me. I thunk it may have been a conspiracy of sorts. ;)
|
IP-specific bandwidth restriction? :::CBOL::: I had the same thought.
|
I’m playin' I asked others and they had the same problem. ;)
I just hooked up my new PC yesterday and it was still funky. At times I had problems getting on sites because of my ancient PC. the PC rocks!! :D |
I disabled the check that sets up that message, but it will remain to be seen whether performance is better with or without it.
Every day I've made administrative performance improvements to the system... if the demand remains this high tomorrow, I will go down and add more memory to it, which should improve things another tick. If it doesn't improve after that I could move the database to the other machine... |
..."Madame, you stated that your check engine light kept coming on? Well, that shouldn't be a problem any longer....... we've removed that bulb."
|
We are down to something like 750 guests now, and the Cellar seems to be doing just fine. For me, anyway.
|
If any more of those damn newbies show up I'll help you guys make them feel unwelcome, if you want.
|
You've certainly earned your wings in that department after all the abuse you've taken so far. :D
Is it still IOTD that is thronging them in? |
Is karma nullified when one appreciates it's function?
What is the proper emotional response when three fold laws come into play? Vindication is wrong but Absolution is sweet so slow moving cellars are tolerable I guess. :D |
All current traffic is for that same IotD - and it's all secondary little sites that saw it and now point to it. There must be hundreds of them.
The Cellar's page rank is going to go through the roof. I rebooted a few minutes ago and this made things snappier. I think this will settle down. |
Good lord, check the number of views on the thread: 215,209
Typical number of thread views is more like 1500 for something that's been around a week. Thread views aren't incremented when someone reads an IotD via the blogview. |
If we come into the IOtD by the blog view, you make a penny or something?
|
If someone clicks on the Google ads. But they generally suck.
|
wow.... charge the Strangers a penny....
All this Traffic can some times be more productive than Iran squatting on their oil, ....and causing all my 401k mutual funds to become deficient as to where they should be. |
@UT: Seriously, how much $$$ would it take to expand the infrastructure of this site to the point that it could comfortably carry out message board functions while simultaneously handling all the new incoming image traffic? I would be willing to contribute to a project like that. Maybe you could start a plegde drive, as it seems the ever-increasing traffic is not going away?
|
I *think* if I had 2GB of high-quality memory this could be fixed in an hour. If I had known this was going to happen I would have bought it on Monday. I always think, well, the flood will be over before I actually get the hardware...
The other option is to move the database to server B, but it will take a three-hour downtime to do that. Maybe over the weekend. We have had a number of really costly changes in the last six months and the tippers have been generous and have covered the cost. The current connection is quite expensive and tippers almost cover it. The B server, where the actual images are, has pushed out 180GB of traffic in the last 5 days!!!! It is batshit insane. But we would NOT have been able to manage it on any previous connection. If this happened at the last place it would have cost $thousands and I would have had to shut that thread down at the very least. |

There were like 1300 guests a minute ago, and then all of a sudden I had all this elbow room in here!

Rebooting clears the most active number.
We are linked by collegehumor.com, and they are killing us. I am trying to figure out URL rewriting so they can all be shot to the blog view. |
The Cellar's not doing so bad when you Google "foam." We're on the first page, right after Icynene expanding foam insulation, and before Clark surfboard blanks.
|
I'm a bit confused as to why everybody's hammering us.... is The Cellar the original source for these photos? Hasn't anybody else posted their own copies of these?
|
I went back to Where I found them and they had been removed.
|
Probably for exactly this reason.
|
We're down to 550 visiting and performance is tolerable again. :celebrat:
