Nothing in this world, and I mean nothing, is sweeter than my name in a thread title.

lumberjim 04-05-2006 09:45 PM

so.......the horse has left the barn then. you write what you write for the recognition. for the fame. for adulation of the masses. you want to be famous. you want to see your name in lights. you'll be famous, king of the world. if they could just see how different you are. how unique, how striking.
o/' o/' You're gonna win, straight to the top, king of the world, you'll never stop. o/' o/^

yep. a jerk

Flint 04-05-2006 09:48 PM

@lumberjim: Your post made me smile. They were right about you, you are funny.

As they say in Public Relations firms, good news / bad news, just spell my name right. Ignoring me would be death.

SteveBsjb 04-06-2006 12:56 AM

:: sigh ::

That's my thoughts.

EDIT:

One screen name per person. Don't use a second screen-name (or anonymous name) just to have another name to hide behind.

Kagen4o4 04-06-2006 03:59 AM

why hide? you'll never be critisized for calling flint a jerk

Flint 04-06-2006 08:16 AM

@Kagen4o4: It's triple-reverse-anonymous-psychology. Since the thread is so benignly negative, to the degree that is wasn't necesary to hide behind another screen name to post it, the device is that hiding behind the screen name is really a way of obscuring the fact that this user felt compelled to make a thread about me, and they didn't want it to be construed as acknowledging me, in a any way, under their actual username. In other words, they don't want anybody to know that they can't stop thinking about me.

mijsnomis 04-06-2006 08:46 AM

Flint is a challenge most of you have failed to meet.

mijsnomis 04-06-2006 08:47 AM

As was Jochser, by the way.

Flint 04-06-2006 08:52 AM

@mijsnomis: Isn't it funny that jochser's banned thread was rolling along just fine?

mijsnomis 04-06-2006 09:13 AM

I'm quite sure Joch wanted to banned, that it was inevitable that he be banned, and that he wanted to make a point about this forum by being banned. The point was that he didn't want any of us to get too comfortable in a forum that has censorship in place. Other than that, he was just being himself. We've had years to figure him out, and the people here could not be expected to have the time or take the interest to do that. You, I expect, they'll get used to.

Flint 04-06-2006 09:14 AM

Of course, of course, you make perfect sense as usual.

barefoot serpent 04-06-2006 09:29 AM

Jochser rhymes with martyr?

Undertoad 04-06-2006 09:34 AM

This place was founded in 1990, and it has had plenty of time to figure out lots of different usertypes, including the ones who feel it's important to take a big steaming crap all over the board to make the point that there is censorship. They come along every six months or so. It's nothing new.

AND the ones who feel compelled to defend people who take a big steaming crap all over the board. Seen them too. Watched them leave, waved goodbye, continued to have a nice forum with people who care deeply about it.

If you take a big steaming crap all over the board, you will be IP banned. If you stay long enough to care about the place, you will HOPE this happens.

You should see the private messages I'm getting, begging me to do it before, thanking me for it after!

We've had years to figure out what a good forum is, and you and your little snotty attitude are clearly not taking the time or the interest in what we are.

And LJ, wrong approach this time buddy, you made this harder this time...

Flint 04-06-2006 09:35 AM

@barefoot serpent: Do you subscribe to Zappa's Church of American Secular Humanism (C.A.S.H.)?

Beestie 04-06-2006 11:03 AM

My favorite part is how we keep getting lectured about how "misunderstood" some of the AGers are - as if we're a bunch of goofballs who just don't get how special some of them are.

I don't mind newcomers but I don't need a month to figure out what is obvious after five minutes. Let the bodies pile up in the hallway if that's what it takes. The AGers who really want to be here will stay and the ones who are in love with the smell of their own adolescent farts will eventually crap their pants and leave.

You must realize that statement could be interpreted as a snap-judgement based on limited data, compounded by the lack of a sense of humor, right?

It takes years to get to know someone, even in real life. On the internet all we have are these attempts at communication via text, which is not much to go on. Too many other factors invloved.

what? harder for who? which approach? the sock puppets, or my being mean to them in a general sense?

lumberjim 04-06-2006 02:52 PM

flint's M.O.:

You're walking along the side walk. Flint waves to you as you walk by. As you pass him, he takes out a short 2X4 and swats you on the back of the head. You turn to confront him, and he hides it behind his back. You say, "Whay did you do that? Why would you hit me with a 2X4?"

then he says, "I didn't. I was just reminding you what it feels like to be hit with a 2X4"

Undertoad 04-06-2006 03:01 PM

Serving up your own ball, that was just meanness and empty-threadedness for its own sake, which I though was basically the main complaint.

Flint 04-06-2006 03:02 PM

lumberjim. Case in point, regarding how long it takes to get to know someone. At first people kept saying "where's LJ?" or "we need LJ" or "LJ is so funny" or "we love you LJ" and I was thinking I didn't know what was so great about him. After a while, though, he gets really funny, like now. I could have judged him right off the bat, but instead I took the time to get a grasp of his technique, and now I see he is really rather insightful, and funny.

Making bloody mary's here right now. STRONG. My posting may get interesting.

Flint 04-06-2006 03:39 PM

Lucky for you, Steve, it seems "drunken posting" is, in fact, allowed here.

If censorship means that I don't have to waste my time reading mindless pejorative drivel, great. Vive la censorship. I've used a lot of naughty words, written unpopular opinions and even levelled a few insults and unkind words at Cellarites in my time here, yet *never* have I been censored.

Who the hell is jochser to come in and give unsolicited censorship lessons? I don't need them. People who use online services make one critical error - they almost always assume that they can say and do anything they wish, but they can't...unless they own the service. Therefore, UT *can* say and do anything he wants. *I* cannot, and I accept this as a term of service here. If Jochser wants to conduct an Internet Freedom of PooPoo Speech course, let him/her/it damn well buy his/her/its own server and bandwidth, and go for it. Otherwise...piss off.

So is stoned posting, so is high on (insert drug of your choice) posting. So is sober posting.

Its not quite 3:00pm here in Colorado, but I just KNOW its 5:00 SOMEWHERE. (Now where did I stash that bottle of vodka?)

Excellent bloody mary, btw. Love my recipe.

Elspode 04-06-2006 04:08 PM

We're sorry...would it help if I threw in two or three paragraphs of profanity worthy of a Marine Drill Sargeant, or perhaps posted a picture or two of Goatse Man?

I disagree. The people here know me really well and I've only been here about two years. They give me sage advice and tell me things that i am too afraid to tell myself. You guys, you AGer's, are not interested in getting to know anyone or being known. Your main obsession seems to be to prove how very, very unique you all are. You are all fucking boring. And, yes, I have tried to like you.

mrnoodle 04-06-2006 05:28 PM

Okay, I've been gone for a couple of weeks, and this is pretty much the first thread I've read (with one exception that I don't even remember). Who are all these new people?

Happy Monkey 04-06-2006 05:34 PM

They came over when an unmoderated group died, and some immediately started trying to test the limits of the moderation here. One was successful.

you'd have known that.

Yes, Bri and I have entered into a plot to avenge all womenkind. ;) Actually, I'm fairly certain I've posted the joke somewhere around here before. Its the one about the Californian, the Coloradoan, and the Texan. But since Flint doesn't want hear it, I won't subject the rest of you to it twice. Once was bad enough!
