Should there be a thread limiter set in place...?

say... two or three per day...?

Flint 04-05-2006 04:30 PM

I don't see why a 2 or 3 thread limit would be a problem for anybody. If it would make people happy, I would say do it. I've only ever created 12 threads, less than one per day, and as I have had to explain several times, for whatever reason, if people keep posting on them they will never go away.

A one thread per day limit would challenge the creative and prolific types to do their best work, as they would only have one shot at it. Of course, people accuse me of spamming the board, and I've posted less than one thread per day.

Stevonez 04-05-2006 04:34 PM

:eyebrow:

I would go so far as to limit threads to... two or three per week...

then... as you say... the creative threads would prosper and the others would drop quicker...

That's because that's a lot on this site. My average is ten per year.

marichiko 04-05-2006 04:50 PM

Well, I'm a very active poster around here (I know - still putting off packing), and I've started 6 threads in the past 4 weeks or a little more than one new thread per week.

In all honesty, Flint, I think the problem is an influx of newcomers, all from the same site, suddenly appearing and starting new threads that get bombarded with three word replies.

This has already been explained ad nauseum.

The only reason we have to keep revisiting this issue is because you like this sort of posting style as evidenced by your frequent use of it, and the people who were here before are used to longer, more thoughtful replies, although we are not adverse to merely replying with even just an emoticon AT TIMES.

THE HORSE IS DEAD!

SteveBsjb 04-05-2006 04:51 PM

Could you repeat that?

Flint 04-05-2006 04:53 PM

The horse was dead on the first day we got here.

Mari -

I can't find your Albuquerque thread, so I'll ask here "wWhen's moving day(s)?"

This sort of begs the questions:

1) Why would you want to hang out with a dead horse?
2) Are you attempting to do the Jesus thing and raise the dead?

May 1. And its Fallen Fairy who is moving to Alb, I'm moving to Mancos, Colorado which is just outside Durango in the 4 Corners area. Both of our threads are under "cities and travel".

I gave my landlord notice today and looked up U Haul prices. I also packed up a comforter. At this rate, it will be May 1, 2007! I think fear of the unknown may have something to do with it! ;)

It could provide meat for weeks, provided you could keep it cold enough.

I can't speak for Flint, but I didn't do so hot in Raising the Dead in HS...a D. At least I passed.

... And I guess if ya didn't have anything to marinate it, ya beat the crap out of it with a slegde hammer, .... until moist and tender.

Mari - oops  my bad!

good luck with that.

The limit should be on quality, not quantity. And since software is not yet capable of making that distinction, we rely on the judgement of the posters. With the fallback being UT - when posters show no discernable judgement.

robsterman1 04-06-2006 06:29 PM

Perhaps it should be up to the site admin to put the limit on thread size. A reasonable limit such as 1000 replies before thread locks should be considered as sometimes very large threads can't be opened.

I happen to agree with that... that's also why I used the technology set in place to form the question I asked... as others have said if there was a limit to how many threads one could make in say a weeks time... it would at least cut down on the number of ill formed or wasted space that few or any would even reply to... having said all that... some of these types of threads have done quite well for theirselves it would seem...

I don't think that's a problem here.

Thanks, Happy Monkey...some boards with very large threads (particularly ones that put all replies on one humongous page) threads can't be opened. Looks like here that is not a problem :)

What would be a good limit on quality? How about, say, no more than 10 minutes of thought and writing per post?

Kagen4o4 04-12-2006 12:35 AM

do i have to post the video on posting rules again? it seems we have a few "little Billy"'s here.

ive grown to just avoid threads with titles i couldnt give a flying fuck about. eg "is it better to ban someone from a message board?" or "American Idol - Country week" or even "Stevebsjb"

just pass over the crap and get into the good shit
