If You Were Going to be on Montel, Wouldn't You Tell Your Coworkers?

You know how sometimes you hear about something after the fact, and wonder why you didn't know beforehand?

This is one of those things. One of my coworkers was supposed to have been on a recent episode of Montel. She is part time, and I don't see her all that often, but a lot of information of much lesser impact crashes through our well-maintained and oiled rumor mill in a matter of hours. Montel doesn't have a decent enough searchable episode guide to even attempt to find the episode number, or to determine whether it might be rebroadcast at any time soon.

The daughter of one of our employees was murdered in a hotel room nearby. I came across the affidavit of probable cause filed on the killer. Alleged killer. Whatever. It provided some significantly grimmy details of which I was previously unaware.

The list of charges is fairly impressive ... but it looks like this hasn't gone to trial as the case is still logged as "active"

Murder Of The First Degree
Murder Of The Second Degree
Murder Of The Third Degree
Kidnap To Facilitate A Felony
Kidnap To Inflict Inj/Terror
Unlaw Restraint/Risk Ser Injury
Rape Forcible Compulsion
IDSI Forcible Compulsion
Indec Asslt-W/O Cons Of Other
Abuse Of Corpse
Robbery
Unsworn Fals Auth Written Stmt

Her appearance would probably have been in some way related to this case.

Perhaps the TV appearance is a preemptive attempt to prevent a plea deal?

wolf 03-30-2006 11:01 AM

This is a death penalty case, so that does make some sense.

Elspode 03-30-2006 11:23 AM

"Abuse of corpse". Wow. That's an overachiever, even for a murdering scumbag.

LabRat 03-30-2006 11:26 AM

That's the one that got me too.:worried:

wolf 03-30-2006 11:27 AM

Trust me, you don't want to read the affidavit of probable cause.

"Indec Asslt-W/O Cons Of Other"

I'm trying to figure out if there is such a thing as "Indec Asslt-W/ Cons Of Other"

I also wonder about "Theft by Unlawful Taking."

Elspode 03-30-2006 12:01 PM

From the list of charges, it doesn't look like there's much left to charge the guy with, except for perhaps jaywalking or unlawful use of a cleaning utensil.

I hope the guy gets what he deserves. I vaguely remember you mentioning the incident when it happened originally...was this some sort of drug-crazed thing, or was this guy someone who probably should have been a resident of your employer?

Yeah, one time I saw a reference to a charge of Involuntary Deviate Sexual Intercourse. I wondered if there was a "voluntary" law as well.

Anyways, to answer the specific question in the topic, I guess it would depend on the purpose of my appearance on Montel. Though obviously it would be stupid to think it wouldn't get back to them eventually. ("Hey, Steve, is it true you were on Montel when they had 'people with unbelievably dense coworkers' day?")

It is entirely possible that one of my coworkers would cite me in *their* Montel appearance...

This was the murder at the Motel 6 in KOP wolf?

A family we know thru school was featured on Dateline around this past xmas. They put up flyers and the father came and discussed the show at a meeting so everyone would know about it. The circumstances were a lot different though...

wolf 03-30-2006 01:07 PM

Yes, it was. Whatever you do, don't ever agree to stay in room 252.

Trilby 03-30-2006 05:38 PM

wolf, didn't you foresee this murder? Or, was that another one? I recall you just "knowing" about a murder or suspected suicide of one of your coworkers. How many of your coworkers HAVE committed suicide or gone insane?

Too many. I think I posted a detailed litany somewhere around here.

The one I knew had been murdered, wrapped in plastic, and dumped in his own basement was the one who was too reliable not to show up at work.

He got several weeks worth of summertime stinky before the local police went to reinterview his girlfriend and they finally noticed the eau d'deadguy that had been complained about by the neighbors for some time.

Beestie 03-30-2006 10:01 PM

Montel is the only one of those daytime interviewer types I can stand. He seems genuinely more interested in his guests than in himself. I think he's an ex-marine or is it formerly active marine.

Maybe that's like statutory rape, where the person was consenting but didn't have the legal right to consent?

marichiko 03-30-2006 11:06 PM

Well, frankly I can understand if the woman just didn't want to discuss something so awful, but if she's willing to share it on Montel, you'd think she'd mention it sometime at coffee break or something.

A woman on another board I frequent posted about the horrifically brutal and senseless murder of her 65 year old aunt. Among other things, the old lady was sodomized with a broom handle. The entire post made me sick reading it. The kid who did it was hyped up on PCP or something at the time he committed the murder, and actually got only a life sentence from a TEXAS jury. Its one of the few times when I think the death penalty would have been quite deserved. Maybe even kill him and resuscitate him and kill him again a few times over.

The woman who wrote the post claimed that she forgave the murderer. I wouldn't have. :rar:

I think people such as her, who forgive the murderer must do it for their own sanity....it somehow helps them to deal with it better and not let it ruin their life as well....

Wolf - clarify this for me please....I'm not sure if the co-worker who appeared on Montel is the mother of the murdered daughter, or just another co-worker?
Thanks..

wolf 04-04-2006 01:44 AM

mother of the murdered daughter.

I got some minor clarification ... she was supposed to be on one of the frequent Sylvia Brown appearances.
