3/27/2006: Egg money

http://cellar.org/2006/eggmoney.jpg

This is a 50 Yuan note, built in eggs. Suggested by alxrosen and it was also Boing Boing'd, of course IotD will not pass up such a display of food. Original gallery site here.

didn't their mommas never tell them NOT to play with their food?

srom 03-27-2006 01:11 PM

the eggs are really shiny. it looks delicious though.

sandra77 03-27-2006 01:12 PM

I hope those eggs are hard boiled!!

Great image especially with spring & Easter coming up.

Other country's money is cooler than ours ...

(the tiling/carpeting surronding the display is scary)

Pancake Man 03-27-2006 01:21 PM

Combine that with this and you get a good breakfast!

This eggsotic eggstravaganza is an eggcelent eggsample of an eggregious eggsercize in artistic eggo. This "artwork" should be eggstracted from the eggsabition hall and the artist eggsecuted.

*claps wildly* Elspode, you get an 'A' for the day and first choice of juice boxes! Very nicely done!

Did I miss something? Is there some symbolism in the use of eggs?

Happy Monkey 03-27-2006 03:53 PM

What does that have to do with the price of eggs in China?

capnhowdy 03-27-2006 06:17 PM

There's a lot of really nice artwork on the page. The image of the lighter looks like OBL to me.

If the Easter Bunny doesn't make it this year we know why. It's the only bunny known that lays eggs. No hijack intended.

Kagen4o4 03-27-2006 06:34 PM

that note must be worth a fortune!

I think you're right.:eyebrow:

I can see how the colors of the eggs is used to represent various parts of the bill. But what's the height of the egg stacks meant to be? Getting right down to it, why the heck does the image of the guy on the right have a huge egg tower sticking out of his ear??

(It's also kinda interesting how you can see the grid that was used to "eggitize" the image.)

Yup, down to the speckled eggs used for the background, plus a couple of ostrich eggs thrown in for good measure.

It seems to be both a bill made of eggs, and a cityscape made of eggs. Something is more likely to be art if you can combine 3 random things together instead of 2, don't you think?

I'm guessing it was built in sections for transportation.

The exhibition's called The 2nd Guangzhou Triennial, tagline -> BEYOND: An extraordinary space of experimentation of modernization. Some kind of modern art exhibition.

Here's a description of the installation: http://www.galerieursmeile.ch/nav/to...istItem_OID=71

Artist: Weng Feng
Installation title: "Accumulating eggs / Weng Peijun's terrific new world"

I'm reminded of a scene from the movie Kundun about the life of the Dalai Lama. In the scene many monks have toiled over building a beautiful Mandala and a Chinese general walks through the middle of it kicking up all the sand and destroying it.

So in my mind's eye I see a Buddhist monk walking through this work of art that many Chinese have toile over and egg yolks going everywhere!

It's payback time! ;)

dar512 03-28-2006 08:58 AM

So, would these be "nest eggs", then?

Karenv 03-28-2006 11:33 AM

Is that Hello Kitty floor tile?

xoxoxoBruce 03-28-2006 06:06 PM

Yes, but don't even think about it. Wolf's got a head start going for that floor.

Guess 03-28-2006 06:15 PM

what a waste! there are starving people in china! oh wait, this is china.

capnhowdy 03-28-2006 08:27 PM

When I look closely at our treasury notes it looks like they tried to print parts of it to have a 3-D effect. That could be the explanation for stacking some of the eggs so high. I'd wager all the eggs are hollow for sure, though. Just a whim.
