3/22/2006: Bull attack, duck!

http://cellar.org/2006/bullattack.jpg

This is not a new image, but it's so great - and I've never used it for IotD before, so when it was submitted recently again, I figured, hey it's about time. (Thanks to submitter, whose name I can't match to a Cellar handle, but thanks again)

The full story behind the image is at Snopes. The shot was taken by remote control, during the 2002 running of the bulls in Pamplona.

For some reason I didn't use it when it first came around. Since then I've regretted it! But I won't miss this opportunity not to post the NEXT image, which as you see is the exact same situation. Hopefully this photographer also had a remote control.

You know, from this angle, a duck really does sort of resemble a velociraptor, doesn't it?

Gromitspapa 03-22-2006 02:21 PM

I remember the first one going around with a "Digital camera for sale" story. That second one is funny, too!

barefoot serpent 03-22-2006 02:33 PM

the bull also seems to have already scored someones knickers.

glatt 03-22-2006 03:02 PM

The bull looks more like a goofy klutz than a fierce animal in that picture, and the duck does look like a dinosaur.

Leah 03-22-2006 03:16 PM

Now that's one nasty looking duck.:speechls:

Actually it looks more like a T-rex to me. In particular it reminds me of the T-rex chasing the jeep in Jurassic park with Jeff Goldblum saying, "Must go faster".

Except this time Jeff Goldblum is saying, "Must go slower. Trying to catch dinner."

Kagen4o4 03-22-2006 04:37 PM

theres something about the eyes of both of them that just whispers quietly in your ear "im...going to kill you now"

ferfanerd 03-22-2006 04:57 PM

I hate to burst your bubble(s) but I think that it a GOOSE.

xoxoxoBruce 03-22-2006 06:11 PM

Duck or goose they are all nice with fresh veg and potatoes and gravy :D

richlevy 03-22-2006 06:55 PM

I know what was going through the mind of the guy photographing the bull.

"Ok, I'm going to the hospital. But if I can get this shot off I can probably make enough to pay the bills".

jojo 03-22-2006 07:05 PM

i can't even look at the bull without getting nervous! seriously. we have purebred limousin and i'm telling you, those things are HUGE and STRONG. he crumpled a steel gate last week like it was made of hanger wire.
uhhh...i'm embarrassed to ask, but since none of you know me: our bull has an extremely long scrotum hanging down, and i wonder if they tie these guys up like they do for rodeos to make them mad?

SeanAhern 03-22-2006 08:42 PM

That was me who recently sent the "bull" image to you, Undertoad. Sorry, I should have given my cellar handle in the email.

Kagen4o4 03-22-2006 09:50 PM

No, they are raised out away from people, so they only see a person occasionally and always on horseback.

When they're suddenly confronted with the confusion of the city, they are freaked out. They mostly just run over people trying to stay with the other bulls but a person on foot looks like a doable foe if they get in the way.......

.....and they're right.

seakdivers 03-23-2006 11:05 AM

Ok - I don't get to see things like cows & horses very often, so I am not familiar with the odd stuff people do to them. This is the first time I've heard about tying a bull's balls up.

Weird.

Well you learn something new every day.

glatt 03-23-2006 11:11 AM

I remember being amazed when I first heard how they got normally placid horses to turn into bucking broncos. They buck like crazy not so much to get the rider off, but to try to get the belt squeezing their abdomen off. Doesn't cause them physical harm though. Just a little discomfort for our amusement. So it's OK. :eyebrow:

edited for clarity.

(*gets the pun of the title*)

ho ho.

If you were a small kid being chased by a goose you'd wish it was a duck! Ducks are much less agressive.

CharlieG 03-24-2006 11:14 AM

Having been chased by more than one goose over the years - I came up with a way to stop agressive geese without hurting them

Turn to face them - spread your arms out full width just above should height, and HISS back at them

The STOP, and fast - you can almost hear them saying "Uh Oh - that is one REALLY big Goose" :worried:

Hi! Yeah, a bit late, but that's okay.

With a track record of 9 (now 10) posts since 2002, I'm pretty much the epitome of a lurker.

jojo 03-25-2006 07:34 AM

i just noticed that piece of grass hanging out of the dooses (or should it be guck) mouth makes it looks soooo tough. like a cig hanging out the mouth of a mean guy
