Texas, African Style!

On February 17, 2006, the company I have worked at for 16 years decided I was redundant.

I had planned a trip to West Texas for some months, and this setback wasn't going to stop me:

My musician friend Aubrey Dunham elected to go along for some promo shots, and they went well.

First stop: Luckenbach Texas, where I invented the 'BluesGrass' genre, video to follow:

Yeah, having to work for a living is a drag..........especially when you're not.
You need a cantina.
It's easy to see why a wind driven fire would be almost unstoppable.

Great shots, man.

Sorry about the job, but mayhaps it was time to move on.

How would you crop that one, wolf? (And you're right about the job, BTW)

I have better:

Actually, I don't think I'd crop it at all, if I didn't have to. The scraggy bush in the near foreground provides great contrast to the open space to the far left. It's balanced right. I might want to play with it to bring up his face a little more, though. You're losing him in the shadows. Sometimes that's a good effect, but for this shot, I want to see him, and see his face around the mouthpiece.

The shot with the rock made me think though ... if you ever get the opportunity, try to shoot something that's composed such that it looks more like the cloud formations are emanating out of the bell of his horn ... that would look too cool, yah? I'd take the car out of the last one in post #18.

Now, shooting him with the sun behind him, totally in shadow, with a bit of solar flare action going on, that could be cool. (either behind his head, haloing him, or out of/near the bell.

Speaking of that rock ... kinda looks like a caricature of an old jazzman in profile, doesn't it?

This may be what you're looking for. Hilite him up! He is a Dark Man:

Aubrey say he sees three sex symbols in this pic. I say I see Doonesbury and a couple of spades:

Cropping this picture, would be like putting a mushtache on the Mona Lisa.

Maybe she'd look better with a mustache, you Marion Morrison maven.:p

When I was scrolling down, I at first thought that in the first picture in #8 that he was floating. After doing the double-take I saw I was mistaken. But now I think that'd be a cool cover. Take #8 picture one or #7 picture four, use photoshop to lift him up a couple of feet off the ground.

The 'Guadaloops' Mountains? I've always wanted to backpack up in there. Thanks for posting them.

I wish I could have heard him blow that sax, out there in the open like that. I played a gig on the roof of a club once, and the sound was so completely different. It leaves your hands but it never bounces back, it just keeps sailing out into the cosmos.
