Hamburger burger
What can one do with hamburger? I've made meatloaf, rice and hamburger balls, spaghetti sauce, burgers, shepard's pie...WHAT ELSE IS THERE? I need some ideas, please. I'm getting sick of the same old. Oh, and it can't be too exotic, either, or kid won't eat it.
|
On the side of the Bisquick box is a recipe for Cheesebuger Pie. It's a family favorite at the glatt house. My son is an extremeley picky eater and he always eats this. It's very easy too.

stuffed peppers or tomatoes
sloppy joes keema stuffed cabbage rolls Tacos, burritos, quesadillas, nachos... :yum: |
...Irish Pasties
Manicotti. Jamaican Patties Oh, and lasagne. Which kid doesn't like lasagne? Ground beef heaven. (Okay, now I need lunch.) |
BigV's porcupine meatballs are very good - and entertaining for the kids.
|
A hamburger quiche. Kids like eggs and burger. Spice it up with some onions or peppers.

When I was a tot we had Ground beef cooked with onions and green peppers this was added to cooked elbow mac. I don't remember the seasoning, but I'd use either a tomato based thing, a cream based thing, or miso and tahini with a dash of hot or black pepper. By thing I think I mean sauce. BTW, what do you call a cow with no legs? Ground Beef. hooray! |
that hamb./ elbow mac/ tomato sauce thing was always called Johnny Marzetti at my house. Of course, we also had a thing called Chinese Pie, so, it could be that my mom just made stuff up.

My mom made a concoction she called "Chuck Wagon Beef" which was browned hamburger meat (drain fat), a can of Bush's Baked Beans (gotta be Bush's), either egg noodles or white rice (depends on availability/taste) and season with Worcestershire sauce. I have had success using soy for the salt flavor instead of the Worcestershire sauce. This recipe lends itself well to include many leftovers as well as experimentation with ingredients and spices to taste.
I still make it sometimes. |

How bout some good old SOS?
|
Will the kid eat eggplant? moussaka is good.
try making surprise burgers, where the burger is two thin patties sealed together on the edges with a surprise filling in the middle, cheese or pickles or something. Also maybe try: saute some onions and mushrooms together in olive oil until they are soft and start to caramelize. Throw on a big splash of balsamic vinegar and another of soy sauce and a little powdered or fresh, finely chopped garlic, let the liquid sizzle away. Cook the meat in the onions and add more vinegar and soy sauce in equal amounts to taste, stirring until nicely browned. Serve over noodles or rice. |
Reinforce the green-bean/cream of mushroom/Tater Tot topped casserole with ground beef, precooked and stirred into the uncut cream of M soup along with the green beans.
|
UG - I just made that today for lunch! My friend used to make it for me all the time and I haven't had it for years - I missed it so I made it today. The kids wouldn't touch it!!
Freekin weirdos. |
Astounding. Children that won't eat something with Tater Tots on it?? I'm floored.
What do they like? I mean, sure, all the more for you, but neither man nor woman lives by green bean casserole alone! |
Ugh, I can't stand anything using cream of mushroom soup.
Brianna, why not try to make a Taco soup? Or Enchiladas :D.... I'm sure other regions (outside of the USA) have tons of dishes that use it in ways you've not considered. |
I despise mushrooms and cream of mushroom soup, but MUST have the green bean casserole (with french cut green beans only and extra Durkees Fried Onions, thank you) for every major holiday, as is the tradition amongst my peoples.
|
I always substitute cream of celery soup whenever a recipe asks for the 'shroom version. Cream o' celery goes down very, very nicely! :)
Now, back to the Chocolate Bunny Orgy! |
UG - sorry, I posted that message just before leaving town. I don't know why my kids don't like that dish. Like I said - weirdos.
They like my chicken cordon bleu, chicken parmesan, and they love my bbq food. Ribs, brisket, pulled pork, burgers...etc When my husband is away, we make things like chicken & dumplings, corned beef & cabbage, beef stew, etc. He hates all things soupy & stewey, so that makes more for us! |

Melidasaur--my v. first props on cooking! Thanks, girl!
Look. I realize it's only a cream of celery prop, but, honey, I will take all the props I can get! Shizzle! |
I was gonna say cream of celery too -- and I'm filing away the cream of chicken /chicken corn chowder idea for later use. Maybe not-so-very-much-later use: I'm nursing a cold, my head is thick and a bit fuzzy, and I'm getting hungry as I write.
Seakdivers, well, at least they like BBQ -- sounds like there's hope for 'em yet! :D I mean, that, at least, is normal! Well, Wolf, guess you'll never be a Hobbit. Or a jackalope -- they have been said to eat mushrooms... ;) |
My head was thick and a bit fuzzy -- but now [pace Winston Churchill to Bessie Braddock] I am better.

How about tacos?
Totillas Ground beef Chopped tomatoes Chopped onions (optional) Shredded cheese Salsa Sour cream Kids love 'em! |
When living in my cabin in the woods, I would cut up an onion and a potato and fry it with the ground beef, seasoned with whatever sounded good. I usually dumped tabasco on it at some point. Then I sopped up all the fat and leftover drippings with bread.
*belch* I didn't say it was recommended, I just said I used to do it. |
Sounds yummy. Not the grease part, but the rest.
|
Greasy bread kicks ass.
|
Ground beef Shepard's pie is good. I make mine from scratch, but you can find other recipes.
|
I make my own meatballs with bread crumbs, egg, garlic powder, A1 steak sauce and grated parmesan cheese. Bake them in the oven (less fat). I boil up a bag of egg noodles and mix with the meatballs. Cover with either cream of mushroom soup or savory brown gravy (depending on my mood).

How about not mincing it ? Like that you would have a steak .
|
Don't be so sure.
|
So what are these nice people eating then , Happy Monkey ? Dyed gristle churned up into a paste ? The occasional testicular accident , the meat-packer's mother-in-law , poisonous chunks of Creutzfeldt-Jakob , bums and wings in general ?
What would all that minced meat look like if re-constituted ? |
And , why are they worrying about recipes instead of worrying about the crap they may be eating ?
|
It looks like hamburger when it is reconstituted.
As for what it was before it was hamburger? Whatever bits of cow they couldn't sell as steaks. |
A poor state of affairs indeed .
