Dear Undertoad:

Please change the name of the political forum from "Politics" to "Richard Nixon's Festering Corpse".

Thanks in advance.

TGRR,
Would like to point out that he DID say "please".

fomentor 03-10-2009 08:23 PM

"Richard Nixon's Festering Corpse" is a suitable place to dump most political opinions, i will vote for this change.

Beestie 03-10-2009 08:56 PM

Speaking of festering corpses, I avoid that forum like it is one.

Stop hating America.

Beestie 03-10-2009 09:15 PM

I don't hate America! I love America!

Now some of the people in it... that's a whole 'nuther kettle of fish.

I went on a field trip with my daughter today. We went to the home of George Mason. George Washington and Thomas Jefferson were frequent long-term guests there. It was really cool walking the same floors and walking into the same rooms as Washington and Jefferson.

What do you think they would think of some of the drivel that masquerades as political debate these days? Not much, I bet.

Pico and ME 03-10-2009 09:17 PM

They would probably recognize it. Human nature was the same then as it is now.

Not really. It was deeply rooted in the philosophy of the Enlightenment.

But on second thought, Enlightenment does rhyme with Entitlement.

You'd be amazed, in Jefferson's case. He was a political animal of the first water.

Washington, on the other hand, was just an animal...and the best pit fighter of his day, with the possible exception of Ben "Crusher" Franklin...and he'd kill a punk for talking politics while he was dropping the mac hammer on some honey showing a little ankle.

lumberjim 03-10-2009 09:39 PM

politics in the days of George, Ben and Thomas :: cutting down your own trees and building a stout log cabin.

politics today :: standing in line at the dmv

Actually, the United States was mired in paperwork and corruption before the ink was dry on the constitution.

Just saying.

Undertoad 03-10-2009 09:43 PM

If you don't like it, just wait! In six months the forum will be different.

I like it. However, I feel we should rename the political board in honor of the man who made today possible.

Tiki 03-11-2009 12:04 AM

I absolutely support a name change to "Richard Nixon's Festering Corpse"!

Kaliayev 03-11-2009 04:08 AM

Its got my vote.

Question: how many votes do all my alt accounts get? Do I have to break out the proxy?

DanaC 03-11-2009 10:51 AM

Votes? We don't need votes. They just complicated things. We have a benign dictator.

where are the fnords 03-11-2009 10:51 AM

George Washington, UH dont you mean Adam Weishaupt?

You should be careful making statements like that Dana. I once got banned from a site for saying something almost exactly the same.

It went something like this:

Poster: I think we should all have a say about how things are run.

Me: This is a dictatorship, not a democracy. (smilie)

Apparently it really was a dictatorship. lol

DanaC 03-11-2009 05:50 PM

lol

*looks around with worried expression*

Oh, btw, I just spotted the typo in my last post. It was supposed to say complicate, not complicated

Aliantha 03-11-2009 05:51 PM

I don't think you need to worry Dana. ;)

You're pretty 'popular'. lol

ZenGum 03-11-2009 06:48 PM

Flanders/Devil/Lawer: I give you the Jury of the Damned ... Richard Nixon

Nixon: But I'm not dead yet!

F/D/L: Shut up. You owe me.

classicman 03-11-2009 07:37 PM

There, if she goes so do I.

yep. Just like HS.

Aliantha 03-11-2009 11:26 PM

What dead horse am I flogging.

I was making a joke and it obviously wasn't what you lot thought.

I'll explain.

Among my circle of friends, if a chick is refered to as 'popular' it usually means she's easy. Of course, we know this is not the case with Dana - hence the quote marks - but I got a laugh out of it for myself. It's not said in a hurtful way and isn't meant to be insulting in any way. In fact, it just became a joke when we used to go to the pub and some bloke would buy one of us a drink. We'd usually turn around and say something like, "well aren't you popular" with an understood emphasis on the popular.

Anyway, it's always lovely to have to explain humour. Hope you've all gotten something out of it today.

DucksNuts 03-12-2009 04:15 AM

There's a little paranoia going around, Ali ;)

DanaC 03-12-2009 05:31 AM

*Chuckles* well it made me smile anyway :P

Well, some people can tell a joke, and some can't.

Dear Undertoad,

please add a link somewhere easily accessible in the navigation for SteveDallas's random threads. Or even re-implement it. So simple, so beautiful.

on behalf of my insomnia,
thanks.

To the extent this comment reflects on my thread picker, which is truly just a little something the cat dragged in one night, thank you.

However, while I don't object to UT "officially" linking to it, I'd recommend against it.

HungLikeJesus 03-13-2009 10:09 AM

I hadn't thought of that, SD. Do you want me to remove it from my signature line?

HungLikeJesus 03-13-2009 10:13 AM

This thread shows the origin of the SDRTP.

SteveDallas 03-13-2009 10:18 AM

Not at all.. I was referring to an Official Cellar Link(tm). If I didn't want anybody using it I'd get rid of it. (The load on my shared hosting plan is almost nonexistent.) My concerns are mainly in the area of not making UT look responsible for something he didn't do, in case there's a problem with it or a future vBulletin upgrade breaks it or something like that.

classicman 03-13-2009 11:07 AM

Well I'd like to say that I love to roll the dice occasionally with it. Its a great way to find threads I wouldn't normally. And hey - keeping me outta the politics forum can only be good :D

you should contact vbulletin and see if they want to buy it

SteveDallas 03-13-2009 11:58 AM

If they feel like doing it, it's trivial, and they can do a much better job since they would actually have access to the guts of vbulletin.

Cicero 03-13-2009 01:45 PM

I usually think of the political forum as a good double for fish wrap. Really, put the fresh fish in it and throw it in the freezer.

Cats drag in great things sometimes, not all of them flapping one wing.

I specifically am lazy, and would love for there to be a 'random thread link' that I easily repeatedly click, i.e. that would be on the new random thread. Sometimes the first random thread is pretty bleh.

Guess it's a topic covered previously, but I liked the directness of a Dear UT.

I don't know about Internet Explorer, but in SeaMonkey you can drag a link to the shortcut toolbar and you'll have that link available from anywhere.
