Running calls on christmas eve is always fun, isn't it?
A plate of assorted cheeses and ring balogna started things off (actually, this was breakfast ... I wake up late). Throughout the day grazing on assorted chocolatey things kept hunger at bay. I enjoyed Maryland Crab Cakes (the kind you get from QVC ... they are awesome), asparagus, scalloped potatoes, and Peach Pie for afters. I also selected a merlot to accompany ... wasn't too bad, but it's Rutherford Hill for me from now on! This morning a cheese strata awaits ... dinner at the nuthouse tonight will be leftover crabcakes 'n taters. |
We'll probably eat somewhere on the way to AC. Then we'll hit the buffet tonight. Last night we ordered in...after I saw the number of cars on the grocery store parking lot yesterday afternoon, there was no way I was going in there.

Lessee...
I had a plate of boiled pierogies with butter and sour cream.
And a glass of Cherry Kool Aid. I'm saving the steaks and baked potatoes for Saturday when I get to see Dagney again! Brian |
went to my parents for honey baked ham with raisin sauce, fresh green beans, homemade rolls, marinated mushrooms (i've got to get the recipe from my mom!) cheese grits and fruit salad. i couldn't do desert though. way to full! (ice cream)

PURITY EGG NOG IS REALLY GOOD
|
Did someone say egg nog?
*runs to the refrigerator to break out the rest of the Penn Dutch Egg Nog* |
Went to the parents house: Parents had 2 bottles of red (merlot or pinot - not sure), both uncles brought bottles of wine (up to 4 total), and my parent's bartender & his wife (yup you read it right) and one of the waiters brought 4 more bottles of wine and a big pot of mulled wine (4 bottles of red, cinnamon, cloves, honey, 4 shots brandy, 2 shots tequilla, 2 shots rum, 2 shots countreau). Total of 8 bottles of wine plus the full bar that my parents have plus the mulled wine.
Now - for dinner. This weird green jello salad that my grandma made (has coconut - so I can't have it - yippie!), coleslaw, baked potato's, fresh green bean cassarole, glazed carrots, BIG ASS PRIME RIB, and rolls with chocolate rum cake for desert. |
Did someone mention wine?
*runs to the refrigerator to break out the bottle of cabernet sauvignon* |

I went to see my dad and his new wife. I drank two beers, most of their bottle of pineapple wine, and some soy nog with rum in it. Then I gave the kids a ride home.
Oh, food... almost everything was white, holding to the great Scandihuvian tradition. Potatoes, lefse, some gelatinous looking lutefisk, white sauce, and (my contribution) potato leek soup. Since we're rebellious, we also had some cooked greens and black beans. |

Thank God my Dad is German - meat and potato's - YUM. |
You Scandihoovian eaters have my condolences. (except for the bakery items)
We did this great Spanish garlic shrimp on Christmas eve, with other nibbling things- a terrific Stilton from Neals Yard, with pears and walnuts. Spanish red and cognac. Christmas day was a standing beef rib roast, mustard horseradish sauce, potatos and greenbeans. with Aussie "get your shirraz-cab over here". We're still working on the roast beast but are about to finish off the ginger cookies and butter nut balls. Whew. Ok. tomorrow I go to gym.:) |
The wife and I went out for Chinese. It was pretty great after three days of hospital tray dinners.

I ate less this year than i have any other year, we went with out the usual scattered plates of nuts and chocolate and white christmas candy. As tradition has it we all gathered at my grandparents home and sat round the BBQ on the huge 20 seater outdoor seater my late grandfather built especially for the occasion. We had several different types od salads from each aunt or cousin and we had Large Queensland Prawns with fresh chilli, and also some chickens on the rotisserie.
Fruit flan.. I HATE IT! i doubt anyone likes that sloppy messy fruity jelly sponge cake mess, but my step mum has to make it and gets upset when noone eats it. its so gross, i just put some in a bowl then mush it up so it looks like ive had some then leave the bowl somewhere she wont see it. the nicest thing i ate all chrissy would have been the lemon meringe pie that was made as my birthday cake (my birthday was xmas eve.) and the prawns are always yummie, my dad the super bbq chef :) |
Well YUMMY MFIN YUM !!!!! It sounds like every body ate GOOD for christmas !!!!!!!
A few questions and comments , plthijinx, That is something I LOVE about the south CHEESE GRITS !!!! Made with the sharpest chedder you can get your hands on and just a hint of garlic . if you can get your hands on the recipe for those marinated mushrooms post it !!!!:yum: BMG , my condolences for have ing to endure some gelatinous looking lutefisk. Never had it , never want to try it . :vomit: Sun_Sparkz , Got any pics of the Quote:
