Yeah she is. When we got her we were told she was a Stabyhoun (Dutch breed) but when she grew older we realised she wan't 100% that as her coat is too curly and thick to be a pure bred. We think she has Wetterhoun (another Dutch breed, related to the Stabyhoun) in her as they are somwhat similar in general build and all, just a bit thicker and much more curly. The colouration though, is normal for a Stabyhoun. They are generally black & white; either in bigger spots or miced like this, while Wetterhoun tend to be brown and white.

The other doggies in here, love them!

DucksNuts, that picture of Clyde and the boy is adorable. Is that your boy? he's oblivious of Clyde's single pointed stare.

...thinking "can I have a bite of that? just one bite? how 'bout a bite for me? just a bite. I only want to taste it. Hey! I know, how about a bite for me?...

xoxoxoBruce 06-05-2006 10:30 PM

Holy shit, Smillie! 9 or 10? Does that mean you don't know how many you have or not sure they were all in there?

DucksNuts 06-05-2006 10:49 PM

3foot - He's my nephew. I was waiting for Clyde to just up and take it, but it seems he listened and has some manners.

I need to take another pic of Tilly, she was only 6 weeks old then and being an Irish Wolfhound x Great Dane...she's changed a tad.

glatt 06-06-2006 07:59 AM

Normally, it's vermin that bed under a stove. But I see you gave them a blanket, so they must be pets. What are they?

At one of my work places a robin made a nest in the glass corner of a building. It was visible from the hallway. way cool UT.

To answer someone else's question, these are domesticated ferrets as opposed to the wild Rocky Mountain Black Footed ferrets. They are cute, playful, time consuming and expensive (vet bills).

Well, I can't really top nine ferrets, let alone the one elsewhere, but nevertheless...meet Anu, as in "A New" Kitty (and also the name of an ancient Sun god). As my wife lay in bed at her grandparents' house while her grandfather was crossing over into the next world, little Anu mewled pitifully beneath the window. He was the abandoned runt of a litter of kittens born to a deaf mother cat that had given birth in the neighbor's boat, and he was cold, wet and hungry when Mrs Elspode bundled him in.

As Pagans, we believe that things happen for a reason, and finding a new life on the cusp of the passing of an old life, especially one as significant as her grandfather, was sort of a no-brainer.

Plus, he's really cute.

zippyt 06-06-2006 10:31 PM

10 ferrets? Oy. my brother had 2 that were supposedly de-scented, and they still stunk. Egad, you must either really really love them, or have no sense of smell! :greenface They were totally fun and playful though. Such personality.

rkzenrage 06-07-2006 03:38 PM

My uncle has four... fun to play with, would not want to live with them.
Mortimer is beautiful!
We get a lot of red rat snakes here, sometimes I have to save them from weird situations (stuck in stuff like pipes or jars). Other than that, I try not to harass them. I take the opportunity to try to undo my Dad making my son afraid of them (my Dad is afraid of snakes).
They are amazingly beautiful!
It has done something cool... my Dad has started to save them too!!! You have no idea how huge this is... never underestimate the persuasive powers of a two-year-old. If you are campaigning for office, get some!
They are the dufuses of the snake world, getting stuck a lot and the birds will get them.

People get used to the smells they live with but visitors have told us the house doesn't have that ferret smell. Most of these were given to us by people who didn't want them any more (or they stunk). Some came in smelling pretty bad but after we changed their diet most of the smell goes away. We bath them only once a year. I do run a fancy hepa + charcoal filter in their cage room and I clean the potty trays every day.

Ferret and Dog

The ferrets got along nicely with my kid's dog. They would bite the dog's toes to get him to play. The dog would get upset when they stole his dog food out of the bowl while he was eating.

xoxoxoBruce 06-07-2006 08:06 PM

I can see how a couple ferrets and a hyper dog would be bedlam.

My mutt looks EXACTLY like joelnwil's Bryon, but starting to go gray on the muzzle and with a white ankh-shape on his chest. He's eight or nine, a stray we got from a humane society.

We have Bhodi the Bassett (renamed him, he likes it). Resued early, the foster family went on vacation, so we are the foster family until his heartworm treatments are done then we own him. Kinda' a trial, but we love him already, so he is ours.

This is Petrie (on the right), who's lived with us since October. His whistling repertoire includes We Sail The Ocean Blue from HMS Pinafore, All I Want Is A Room Somewhere from My Fair Lady, and the Imperial March from the Star Wars movies. (To the left is Katie, a friend's budgie whom we were bird-sitting for.)

In sadder news, these are our former goldfish.

http://www.barks.org/photos/fish.jpg

The kids won them at a school carnival Thursday and since we'd talked about setting up a real fish tank we decided to at least try and do it right. I thought once we got past 2 or 3 days we would be fine (it was a surprise so we weren't able to let hte tank settle as long as they recommend), but one died yesterday and one today. We're just going to leave the tank running a couple days, do some water tests, and go from there before trying any more.

Bhodi looks like a great pup, though he could really use a manicure. I love seeing everyone's well loved pets, unforunately my allergies have gotten to the point we probably won't ever get a dog. :( This really stinks because I had several while growing up and would love for my daughter to have the fun we had.

xoxoxoBruce 06-23-2006 09:16 AM

How about a poodle?

Soft Coated Wheaten Terriors (like Darla) have hair, not fur, and no dander. They are hypoallergenic, and they don't shed.

Edit - and they're real dogs, not like poodles, which are for punting.

LabRat 06-23-2006 11:56 AM

Quick google of above: Cute, but too much hair for me. I'm more of a lab gal. My pets shouldn't need more personal care than I do. :D I can only imagine what a wet one of those would smell like...

wolf 06-23-2006 11:57 AM

Standard Poodles are real dogs with bad haircuts. Miniature and Toy Poodles do not have room enough for brains.

Poodles also have hair and not fur, and are hypoallergenic. I think the same may be true of Bedlingtons, but their showcut is so ridiculous that other dogs laugh at them and they have a self esteem problem.

bbro 06-23-2006 01:58 PM

Man!! I really want a dog now, can't have one though. For different reasons than LabRat. I would feel bad leaving tham alone all day while I work and I really don't have room for them to run. Since I rent a townhouse, there's nowhere for them for run around free. :(

rkzenrage 06-23-2006 02:09 PM

My parents are going to get one of those new laberdoodles (sp?), the hypoallergenic dogs.

wolf 06-24-2006 01:19 AM

Amazing what people will try to do to profit from the unintentional mating of two purebred dogs.

Gromitspapa 06-26-2006 08:34 AM

Several breeds are non-allergenic. Shih Tzus are; they don't shed, but they need haircuts every 6 weeks unless you're into endless brushing.

+1 on standard poodles. Great dogs; super smart.
