Which Browser at home?
My kids' school is having problems with their website. They don't think they are, but many of us parents do. They all use Apple computers and Mozilla Firefox browser because that is what the school provides/mandates. Most of us having problems use IE on PCs. they say we should change to Firefox. I say they should make their website more universal. Anyhoo, I want to get a good picture of what the average person uses when browisng for fun in their own time in their own place (what browser they use, not what sex toy.... clean your mind!). So if you would indulge me, please partake in a little poll. I have separated off the IT people because I would like to see if there is a difference.
cheers. |
Hmm can't see how to edit typos in polls....
|
That's funny. Usually it's Firefox being incompatible with a site designed for Windows. Up until recently, I was always having a problem with Amazon.com and Firefox. Either the new release of Firefox fixed the problem or Amazon upgraded their site because the problem stopped a few months ago.
|
Fixed the typo.

UT, do you have those figures for Cellar visitors? The number using various browsers? Not asking you to do any work at all, I just wonder if you have that info somewhere automatically reported to you.
I only use Firefox. Only time I ever use IE is to do Windows updates once a month. |
I use both IE and Firefox at work, but only IE at home.
Don't really see much difference in them. |

Firefox at work and home.
I'm the network administrator at work, as well as everything else. |
I'd love to see those same stats without the IoTD crowd. I bet the reg'lar dwellars are more likely to use something other than IEEEEEEeeee!

I use SeaMonkey...you think that's being considered Mozilla or unknown?

Edit: but after a quick googling it appears SeaMonkey will showup as Mozilla. I drew this conclusion because you can download extensions for it at mozdev... Edit 2: LiveHTTPHeaders might be of interest... |
I've got a lot of those Konqueror hits under my belt, but I went to FF.
|
Firefox, and I was an IT professional. Of course, that was before there was a web, really.

I am a network admin at home AND at work...stuck with IE at work, but do run Firefox off a USB key. At home I use Firefox on Linux, the BEST way to surf safely :)
|
I am a semi-IT pro (currently an independent technician, and starting a 2-year CCNA course this Fall), and I swear by FireFox.
I am also a web developer, and could give a few words to the school: YOU MORONS! ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS have an IE-compatible site. There's not enough FireFox users for sites to be FF-only. On the topic of school websites - I need to beg our webmaster to let me redesign our school site... Ugh! |
I'm the same as glatt. I use Firefox primarily and only use IE to do Windows updates.
|
I think if there was half the malware written for Firefox that is currently out there right now for Internet Explorer, Firefox would cease to exist. As Mozilla gains favor, there will be an inevitble rise of malware.
|
I have this bowser at home:
Sorry couldn't resist. I always had IE at home, and I am not an IT professional (I don't even play one on TV) |
Anyone have the mozilla firefox t shirt? My friend has it, and if I had it I too wouldn't mind wearing it in public.
|
kinda skipped ahead, but firefox has a plugin that allows it to run as IE. check the mozilla site and it'll point you in the right direction.

I used to use IE, but came across websites a little too often that weren't compatible. So I switched to Netscape, and don't have any problems... Why are the Netscape users so few? Is there something wrong with it that I don't know about? |
Mozilla is Netscape but better. I don't know if there's anything wrong with Netscape, but there's a whole lot that's right with Mozilla.
|
Websites not compatible with IE? Incredible, never saw one.
|
The doper? that set up my ffrist computer said I need a new modem. So he could drive to Hattiesburg and get a new one, buy dope, see girl. Anyway he installed Netscape. BTW the modem that was bad is still working at someones house I gave it to.
Hi-jack, again. |
Firefox 2 is too bloated.
I am still a Firefox devotee and install it on as many computers as possible, but after running FF 2 for a while, I realized how slow it was and how much memory it devours.
I've been using Flock now, and it's much faster and is using about half the memory. (I think Flock is a branch of the Firefox 1.5 source.) |
Welcome to the Cellar, aegis. :D
|
Can I hijack this thread to ask which browser I should use?
I want a light secure browser I can play music and video files from. Maybe I just need a good IE toolbar? |
That question will get you the same response as the preceding posts... everybody has their own opinion.
|
I'm well surprised to see so many people are still using IE over firefox, but glad to see that it's got 30% of us :)
|
Why do so many firefox users have Jarry's attitude of seeming to need the validation of numbers to reaffirm their choice? If you're happy with it, isn't that enough?
