February 2, 2012 The Shadow Knows

http://cellar.org/2012/groundhogshadow.jpg

Today is the day I'm supposed to look for my shadow with the whole world watching. If I see my shadow we'll have six more weeks of winter and if I do not see my shadow we'll have spring.

Do I look or do I not? If I don't look and see my shadow, even though it is there, will we have spring?

Looks like six more weeks for us ...
If they are going to be like yesterday or today, bring it!
It has been gorgeous here.

Trilby 02-02-2012 10:52 AM

Reminds me of Bill Murray...

busterb 02-02-2012 12:49 PM

6 More, what happened to the first 6 weeks???

We have a number of questions/ statements posted along the corridor in school.
Some are riddles, some just designed to make you think.

One still has me baffled:
Think of an object that does not cast a shadow.
Given a source of light, surely everything corporeal casts a shadow?

If we get six more, *those* will be the first six.

A pane of window glass?

Wombat 02-02-2012 04:32 PM

A pane of window glass does cast a shadow, just a very faint one (roughly 10% of the light doesn't make it through).

Maybe the answer is the Sun?

The sun does not cast a shadow.

HungLikeJesus 02-02-2012 07:28 PM

The wind doesn't cast a shadow.

ZenGum 02-02-2012 07:59 PM

Naughty FFF. ;)

Any object in complete darkness does not cast a shadow.

Don't ... turn ... around ...

Ibby 02-03-2012 12:49 AM

I tried for about half an hour to find a picture of one, and there apparently is not one on the interwebs, so, well, hopefully Munchkin players will understand my wanting to post a photo of the card The Shadow Nose.

(one of the monsters one can encounter in Munchkin is the Floating Nose, a spoof of the "floating eye" monsters from rpg lore. Another, more dangerous opponent is the SHADOW Nose. it's a really awesome nerdy wordplay if you have the actual card in front of you rather than trying to explain the joke.)

Lamplighter 02-06-2012 10:55 AM

Now that I've seen PP Phil, I can't forget it :3_eyes:

infinite monkey 02-06-2012 11:03 AM

Or, more generally "a source of light".

Reminds me of "A bookkeeper was surprised to discover a word with three consecutive sets of double letters. What was it?"

infinite monkey 02-06-2012 12:08 PM

Ookkee?

Lamplighter 02-06-2012 12:11 PM

:D - it pays to know how to take a test

Sorry, but with the word "corporeal", you could include "burp, voice, and other such

My apols for not knowing the full extent of the word (not sarcastic, these things educate me!)
But you will admit that despite my gaffe, a burp is not an object and therefore doesn't answer the question.

I think a hole can be the only answer.

A source of light is a good one, but only tenable when it is the only source of light.
A lamp in a room will cast a shadow if you bring a candle in.

You mean I guessed it? Wow! I never figure these things out. :)
