One box was enough, with a fair bit to spare.

OK, I though the shading on the box was so varied you might not want the extreme light or dark.

I tried to make it fade from one end to the other.

I'm lost, are the first two pictures the top and bottom view of the same item?

I think the first picture is he final thing and the second is a jump back in time to pre-completion (missing the piece in the third pic)

First is the top of the final product, second is the bottom view, but before the last piece was placed, showing the spiral on the inside. Third is the last piece.
