Time did a story on this.

Summary:

Lions snatch cape buffalo calf from herd and drag it to water's edge, scattering the rest of the herd.

A brief tug of war with a crocodile ensues.

Lions win tug of war, drag the calf away from the water, and get stomped on by herd who return to rumble.

I had heard cape buffalo were tough, but this was pretty cool. This is probably why you don't find cape buffalo burgers at McDonalds.
