current exit poll results please

Undertoad 03-08-2005 11:07 PM

Semi-final results are IN

Game one: Blues Brothers 10 The Princess Bride 8

Game two: Blazing Saddles 13 South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut 5

Twice the voting of the first field of 64, there was clearly great interest in this topic and much closer games. And now...

Undertoad 03-08-2005 11:10 PM

It's the Final! Send me a private message with your choice for:

The Blues Brothers, or Blazing Saddles?

Everyone may vote once for the next 24 hours, at which time a winner will be announced.

May the best/funniest film win!

mrnoodle 03-09-2005 09:02 AM

Blues Brothers wasn't funny. Neither was that whole period of SNL that everyone goes apeshit over. Blazing Saddles is the only choice.

I should shut up, I'm jinxing my teams. I guess I can take off my lucky Princess Bride boxers now.

lumberjim 03-09-2005 09:32 AM

the holy graillllll

Just thinking about these scenes makes me laugh...

TMI =___ mental image?? sorry, haven't had my caffeine this morning. Unfortunately I have had a crazy week, and haven't been able to really check in to put my $0.02 in, till now. what crawled up radars ass? Going to go vote now, and await the results. This thread has given me a lot of ideas for movies to rent that I haven't seen. Thanks!

SteveDallas 03-09-2005 12:35 PM

Too Much Information

Radar 03-09-2005 01:16 PM

How much for the women? I want to buy the little girl. How much?

Which one of you can tell me who was the waiter in that scene in the Blues Brothers?

Who can tell me the name of the prison guard releasing Jake from prison?

Who can tell me the name of the man at the end of the movie they give the money to so they can pay off the taxes for the orphanage?

Trilby 03-09-2005 01:29 PM

RAdar, I cannot answer your questions as I'm still shocked and stunned over the Holy Grail loss...NO Python in there at all??? I resign my Laughometer!

and PS--when the Blues Brothers WINS it will only re-inforce the concept that the Cellar is a WASP community. Not that there's anything wrong with that...

Why would a Blues Brother's victory prove that the Cellar is full of wasps? Not enough black people in the movie for you? Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, John Lee Hooker, Matt "Guitar" Murphy, Chakha Khan, James Brown to name a few... WTF???

Trilby 03-09-2005 01:50 PM

Right--too many white people in it. It's a white movie about the blues. How white can you get?? and if you blinked, you missed a lot of those guys you mention. 'Cept for 'Retha and Scat. This was a vehicle for Belsuhi and Ackroyd.

When that expression first came into vogue I had some difficulty with it, because I live in the same state as Three Mile Island.

So much for Chopped Liver. (Errrrr, I mean Cab Calloway.)

Come on, if you want to talk racism in Hollywood, fine. There's lots of fuel for that fire. But relating that back to alleged Cellar waspiness is almost a non sequitur. Would Princess Bride have been a better choice? What about Airplane? For that matter what would a Blazing Saddles victory say? (I personally think Blues Brothers is far from a foregone conclusion. There are a lot of Brooks fans here.)

wolf 03-09-2005 03:19 PM

I really think Holy Grail woulda been a contender ...

Besides Cleavon Little, how many black people did you see in Blazing Saddles? Seems to me that more WASPs would vote for BS than BB if your theory held water.

wolf 03-09-2005 03:55 PM

That's a toughie. I think true WASPs hate the Jews worse, because more of them can pass.

404Error 03-09-2005 04:17 PM

Well damn, and here I've been hating the wrong group all these years. Do I have to switch my bigotry and start hating Jews now?....or can I just hate both?

Trilby 03-09-2005 04:55 PM

The fact that the BB was a movie about a black music form--starring two white guys--that's why it's waspy. D'UH.

Happy Monkey 03-09-2005 05:06 PM

And Blazing Saddles is a movie about a black sheriff in the wild west. Looks like you get to pick your favorite racial improbability movie.

mrnoodle 03-09-2005 05:07 PM

What makes the cellar waspy is the fact that these conversations happen

Happy Monkey 03-09-2005 05:15 PM

I'm W, and I may or may not be AS, but I ain't P!

Griff 03-09-2005 06:23 PM

The white stars provided a mass audience for a movie that celebrated black culture. Cab, a black man, was the father the boys never had at the *cough* Cath-o-lic orpanage. In real life Aykroyd is a huge booster of the Blues. Not a WASP film, an American film. A purple  for a BB victory. Even though BS is a pretty good flick.

It's so much simpler to just hate everyone.....fairer too. ;)

Undertoad 03-09-2005 10:59 PM

Ladies and Gentlemen by a close vote of 10 - 7 your Field of 64 winner

BLAZING SADDLES

Good games all around!

Silent 03-10-2005 08:20 AM

Life of Brian would have been my first choice, but I can satisfied Blazing Saddles.

Mind you, History of the World is the best thing Mel has done....

Clodfobble 03-10-2005 10:09 AM

Yes, but Blazing Saddles is at least a deserving winner. It could have been much worse. Now if you'll excuse me I need to go eat my Cheerios. ;)

Elspode 03-10-2005 02:45 PM

A worthy champion, indeed.

404Error 03-10-2005 04:11 PM

I think I was the first to nominate it so I'm pleased it won.

LabRat 03-11-2005 11:36 AM

Guess I'll have to rent it now...

SteveDallas 04-18-2005 01:14 PM
