I like the old haircut there! im just not sure my hair is thick enough. It's super-thin. On the other hand, i'm not sure WHAT i can do with it, and if I think I can pull that off i'd love to try it. It's a little bit pixie, a little bit mod, and the long side-swept bangs work much better than a short fringe (for me at least, i bet you could pull off the fringe). It's definitely on my list of maybes if i have any input in the haircut at all! |
MTP I forgot how cute you used to be.
Mostly because I just concentrate on how cute you are now :) Ibs - you might want to think about hair extensions. Not to lengthen, but you can get them just to "fill out" or thicken your hair. I've had them twice to lengthen my hair and they are a pain to take care of, but it's all about how important your image is to you. Turns out mine wasn't... I pulled one set out myself in the end. I wasn't in a good place though. They're expensive to get and maintain, but if you find a local hairdressing college or a place that needs to train staff then the cost will shrink dramatically. I know what you've said before about hating to expose your fledgling self to strangers. But do try to close your eyes and step off the board. Hairdressers in general are a sympathetic bunch. And surely more open-minded in your part of the world. It's generally considered a gay-friendly profession, so TG/TS friendly is perhaps not much more of a stretch? Just don't get your hair cut if you are considering extensions. The more you have, the better it can be added. Again, note, I am not talking about adding length, just fullness. The TG lady who works in my local supermarket has a bald spot. I feel for her. Then again she has a musician boyfriend and is very happy. Bitch. |
Ibs, looking good m'dear!
Get your hairdresser to layer your hair, that will help give it a litle more body and look less thin and flyaway. Or, as Sundae suggested, investigate hair extensions. |
Here's alittle ad site that talks about using them for thin hair:
http://www.lucindaellery.com/fine-hair.php |
From what I know, layering will make your hair seem thinner. People with fine hair should stick with blunt or very light layering.
|
really? I heard the opposite...or I've misunderstood.
|
Yeah, I wouldn't layer fine hair like Ib has.
|
It's also worthwhile to keep in mind that you don't have to have long hair to look feminine. :)
|
Here are a couple to think about. If I were you, I wouldn't go for anything with wispy ends, or at least maybe just around the face. The thing with most women's cuts is to try to frame the face and bring out the good features rather than to simply get the hair off your face. Think about what features you want to enhance eg. jaw line, eyes, lips etc, and then look at styles that do those things. If you can find a good stylist, he/she should be able to make suggestions on how you would go about doing that.

They don't just wake up with their hair looking like that. ;) Most styles do need product unless you're really lucky to find the perfect cut that you like and which makes you look good. |

I don't think it would Ibs. Done right a shorter style will be feminzing.
|
Yeah, I agree with Dana. There are plenty of men with long hair these days, especially wispy/shaggy long hair. It will be so much more effective to rely on other markers like notably styled hair, light makeup, and shaped eyebrows.
I know you've still got a fear about just walking into a styling/waxing salon. But women do that. You'll need to embrace it. Perhaps instead of a large multi-chair salon, you should look for an independent stylist with their own shop. More expensive, but it will be private and the stylist will be more skilled as well. |
It's not so much a fear as a hesitation, exacerbated by laziness.
It's on the list of things I need to do. Along with finding a job, and a doctor, and a shrink, and uh FRIENDS, and... yeah. It's less fear of that specifically and more, leaving my room is intimidating. |

So I won't suggest you just do it. Keep the advice bookmarked in your head for when it's less of a stress trigger though. FTR I have very very fine hair and I have it layered to create the impression of body. But I have a lot of hair. It won't do anything of its own accord but the layers make it easier to wrangle into a semblance of life. Unless layering means something different over here. |
Thankyou! so not just me then :p
|
I think maybe it depends on which direction the layers go.
If the outer hair is cut shorter than the inner hair, then it gives the visual impression of curving outward as well as makes the top layers less heavy, causing both visual and real lift. If the inner hair has been cut shorter, it basically eliminates the underpinnings of the outer hair, causing it to be flatter than it would be with proper support. |
I'll just chuck my vote in here for the idea that styled hair can give the idea of femininity more than long hair ...
|
Speaking as someone who occasionally gets mistaken for a bloke, I have to say having longer hair made no difference to that whatsoever.
Also, I have over the years had a few male friends who have, for one reason or another, dressed and/or attempted to appear female. In my personal opinion the bigger, or longer hair styles were least effective in achieving that. With the sole exception being Jimmie's* beautiful ash blonde wig. But that was super straight and fine, and he had the perfect face shape for it. I tried it on and it just didn't do for me, what it did for him. *a lad J and I flatshared with for short while. Started very friendly as these things do and then broke down into acrimonious fallouts...again as these things do :p |

This was taken Saturday night by Amanda's friend Erin. She had it on facebook before I woke up the next morning. A work associate said I looked scary, my son linked some dating site axe murderer meme. (he's like the world authority on memes at this point)...
anyway... here's that shot... Amanda didn't like this shot of her, but I do. Attachment 38901 |
Yes, you look scary...but scary in a fun movie kind of a way. And Amanda looks great! She reminds me of an actress but damned if I can work out which one
|
I like that picture. You look like you're having fun.

Got a haircut and got my brows done today!
not the best photo, but. what do you think? |
Hm. the more I look the more i can see that you can't tell much from the photo. It's short in the back, long on the sides, and voluminous and kinda up on the top.

I think that's a good haircut Ib. You need to make sure you style it though, otherwise it's just going to look ratty, especially as it grows out.
Jim, are you sure it's not just a shadow? I can see what you're talking about, but only because you mentioned it. |
no, I'm not sure... but I noticed it in the last set too. I didn't say anything then.. but if he got his eyebrows done... I just thought the lip would occur to him.
|
the problem is, to get it waxed, i'd have to grow it out more. what you're seeing is just shadow - not a shadow, but like, of the 5:00 variety. Except its there even when i'm fresh-shaved because im so pale.
Also, i've heard that waxing the lip is not recommended for MtFs. The hair is so dense and heavy, and holds into the pore more, and can take big chunks of skin with it. Maybe i'm wrong. Any guys out there ever waxed their 'stache? |
Bleach maybe?
|
Just use a hair removal product. You can get ones for sensitive areas. One day, maybe you'll be able to afford electrolysis.
Actually, I have a home one here that sort of does the job that you could have if you wanted. I've never been motivated enough to bother actually doing it, but it might be a bit stronger in you. Just let me know. |
Nice haircut babes.
|
Again, hair removal products are almost always designed for female-bodied people, and can have unpredictable and dramatically negative results unless they're made for male-bodied people.
|
Well you can spot test them. Don't just assume it's not going to work for you, and don't assume that just cause one doesn't work, another wont be better. There are heaps of options.
I know it's a tough road you're on, but honestly, you seem to be really quick with the negatives to many suggestions. |
