Camping This Weekend

[Princess OTR's first time "real" camping - (tent, not trailer or cabin) - she LOVED it.
|
That looks ike one princess who is going to be able to defend her own castle; bold knights may be optional extras.
Is that a real gun? |
BB gun - adult just behind her out of the shot. But real ducks and real trout!

My clematis.
Bonus side story, only available here at the Cellar for a limited time: We were talking flowers, and my mom said something about cyclamen. I said "Cyclamen, isn't that the new 4 day treatment for Clematis?" Ba dum dum... |
He tried to ride a cyclamen
he took a bad spill then he rhododendron and just looked like a dill. |

I took this picture outside my fence a few days ago. The parrots really love the blossom on this tree (which I don't know the name of unfortunately, but I'll be finding out) and they spend most of each morning there lately. The blooms are almost finished now though, so I guess that'll be the end of the parrots till next year.

Wow, great pics! It must be very cool to have parrots naturally flying around.
|
Thanks classic. :) It is nice to have native birds around, but they can be pretty raucous. Not so great at the crack of dawn, but still beautiful to look at.
Those particular ones are very common around here, and in most coastal areas of Australia. They can be quite comical to watch. |
We have to go to the zoo to see stuff like that. That's cool.
|
If we didn't have cats and dogs, we'd be able to hand feed them. They get very tame very quickly if you leave food out for them. Particularly that breed of parrot. Bread with sugar or honey can easily be held in the hand to offer to them and it doesn't take too long for them to get brave enough to come for a feed. I was pretty close to that bird. Only about 2 metres away (6 feet). They're pretty cocky really.
|
I feed squirrels here. But really, they're just tree rats. Some of them are very social. But Frank and Trixie make their contribution to keeping them leery.
Australia got squirrels? Squirrels. Thank heavens for spell check.:) |
No, but we have possums. All kinds, and they get pretty friendly too. They like making homes in people's roof cavity actually, and can be very annoying when they bounce around at night. Possums are nocturnal as you probably know. Most of the possums we have here are pretty cute as opposed to the ones you guys have over there.
|
We have armadillo. But I shoot them. They are pests.
Beautiful pics Ali. |
I think that's a Wattle.

Me and one of my students. A complete coincidence that we dressed this way, so I had to capture it on film.

Impress: I LOLed.
CpnHowdy: try getting Japanese people to pronounce Sukuwiwu. Sukuwiiwuru. Yes I am mean. And Australian possums are also friendly and can be easily semi-tamed to take food from your hand. Many birds will too, especially magpies. Emus can be hard to keep off. |

No parrots here in chi-town. But no big hairy bugs either. |
Good point Dar - I'm debating whether I want the parrots AND the bugs or if I should just be happy without either. hmmm

from the peak of Bull Run Mountain today
|
Beautiful. You know what kind of bird that is?
@Impress: What is it? Where did you take the shot? I love it. |
impress - Painting of a bobcat?
glatt - that an osprey? I can't tell not seeing the head behind the wing. |

no idea what kind of bird it was, but it was huge, and there were a bunch of them soaring in the thermals on the mountain side. I thought it was a big hawk or an eagle, but I don't know.
I also saw a skink, a box turtle, and a deer on the same hike. |

Here's another shot of one of the birds, but is kind of out of focus. They were moving so fast the camera was having trouble locking onto them.
|
nope not an osprey. I think you're right probably a hawk.

QUOTE] No, real live animal at a zoo in Phoenix. Beautiful cat. |
Probably the painted backdrop fooled him.
|
That zoo in Phoenix was a disgrace, to be perfectly honest. Deplorable. But that cat was magnificent.

I wonder if the cat can "see" the painted foliage at all, or if it just looks like a cement wall.

My little pot o' gold.
|
Love the pic of the birds in the trees.
|
Hey Bullitt:
Those are some beautiful shots. My two favorites are the backlit snowy trees and the wide shot of the heron colony. Really great! Thanks! |
I loved the Naughtier Baby Dragon. I guess the safer version says Hello. The naughtier version shakes his dick at ya...
|
Those pics of birds in flight are wonderful
Oh, and I want a bat! I love bats, they're beautiful! Fancy finding one just like that in your yard. How marvellous. Ahh. Me and Dad used to go looking for bats at night in Queen's park. happy days. |
Methinks they'll bite the batshit outa you!
And Barney Fife said they'll get in your hair and lay eggs and make you go crazy. Looking in their mouth is like looking into a mini Rottweiler's . |
Our old neighborhood was bat infested, and 3 or 4 times a year we'd have one flying around in the house. I hated that.
|

Disclaimer: I didn't take this pic, but a good friend did, right down the street from my house on Sunday (while I was ignorantly cruising around on the back of a Harley in the rain):

Thanks guys, hopefully I'll be able to get some cool shots next weekend at a Daytona Prototype auto race that I will share with you all.
|
That would be really cool.
Those bird colony pictures are really interesting. I've never seen a group of herons like that in one tree. |
It looks like that house sprang a leak QotR.

I stalked this little guy (or his siblings) for twenty minutes, wading through the waist deep water (with no housing to protect my camera  ) and I got a couple well focused shots. This one cracks me up the most. He's cocked his head and he's lookin' right back at me "What are you lookin at?!". Hahahaha!!
|
excellent shot!
|
oh thats beautiful V!
