OK, fine:

What band had the first rap album to go to Number 1 on the charts, in 1987?

glatt 08-01-2006 12:33 PM

Beestie Boys?

Shawnee123 08-01-2006 12:44 PM

Beastie Boys it is!

"She's crafty, and she's just my type!"

Your turn!

glatt 08-01-2006 12:47 PM

Here's an easy one.

The King of Rock is Elvis

The King of Pop is Michael Jackson

The Godfather of Soul is James Brown

The Chairman of the Board is Frank Sinatra

The Prince of Darkness is Ozzy Osbourne

The Boss is Bruce Springsteen

Who is God?

jinx 08-01-2006 12:52 PM

Alanis Morissette

glatt 08-01-2006 12:57 PM

Ha! Actually, I was thinking Clapton. But you are correct.

Your turn.

Oh man... I got nuthin' here.... uhhh
What's the best selling album of all time?

Shawnee123 08-01-2006 01:19 PM

Thriller --Michael Jackson?

jinx 08-01-2006 01:27 PM

No, that's #2.

Beestie 08-01-2006 01:40 PM

Dark Side of the Moon or Rumours.

jinx 08-01-2006 01:45 PM

Neither.

glatt 08-01-2006 01:47 PM

It's got to be something like "White Christmas" by Bing Crosby, but that's a single.

I'm going to go with Sgt. Pepper, but I think that's wrong.

Shawnee123 08-01-2006 01:48 PM

Led Zeppelin -- Houses of the Holy?

xoxoxoBruce 08-01-2006 01:49 PM

Eagles. :D

Ibby 08-01-2006 02:45 PM

eagles greatest hits!

jinx 08-01-2006 02:58 PM

You're up Ibram.

Ibby 08-01-2006 03:09 PM

Oh man, i missed bruce's post, i think he should go, shouldnt he?

jinx 08-01-2006 03:13 PM

It doesn't matter to me, but I was asking for the album not the band.

Ibby 08-01-2006 03:27 PM

Well, okay, I'll go, then.

How can you tell Steve Vai's Ibanez from Paul Gilbet's Ibanez?

Flint 08-01-2006 03:33 PM

Seven Strings. (Vai has a Low B, I think.)

Ibby 08-01-2006 03:46 PM

Well, vai does have the Universe series...

To clarify, how can you tell Vai's JEM from Gilbert's sig?

Flint 08-01-2006 03:48 PM

Crap, I'm just a drummer. I thought I had that one.

EDIT: You know what, out of curiosity, since I thought you said I was wrong, I Googled "Paul Gilbert Signature" and it does only have six strings. So, I was right. Maybe not the answer you expected, though.

Ibby 08-01-2006 04:01 PM

Yeah, but see, the Universe isn't really Vai's signature, it's more like the sister guitar to the Jem that Vai helped design. It's a distinction I should have made, for clarity. But madd propz for knowing that Vai pioneered modern 7-string use.

Flint 08-01-2006 04:01 PM

I have a question ready to go. Can we get a ruling on this?

EDIT1: I just read your last post. Thanks. Passion And Warfare is one of my desert island albums.

EDIT2: I still think I correctly answered the specific question you asked, though.

Ibby 08-01-2006 04:10 PM

I'm sorry, but the 7-string Universe isn't really Vai's sig, and he doesn't play it very often at all, either.

Flint 08-01-2006 04:11 PM

You didn't specify "signature" guitars. He frickin' invented it, to me that makes it "his."

Ibby 08-01-2006 04:21 PM

I am going to flip a coin. Heads, it's your turn; Tails, we wait. It doesnt affect me either way, so I have no reason to lie.

Tails... Sorry, man. Difference between the Jem and the PG.

Flint 08-01-2006 04:25 PM

It isn't a coin-flip issue. You asked a question and I answered it.

You can't add conditions after the fact. You asked, I answered. My answer was right, then you changed the question. End of story. My turn.

Ibby 08-01-2006 04:45 PM

Your answer was not correct, see my comment about Gilbert also playing 7-strings sometimes. Playing the axe sometimes, having one, even designing it doesnt make it HIS. The Jem is HIS, the Universe is just a side thing. I'm sorry, dude, but the 7-string is not what sets Vai apart from Gilbert.

JayMcGee 08-01-2006 06:25 PM

godammm....... I guess even music tirivia can turn into a heated debate.... (cue mrs. Merton....)

So, what is the difference....

Steve Vai invented a seven-string guitar, for Ibanez. "Steve Vai's Ibanez"

Presumably, whoever Paul Gilbert is, he plays an Ibanez also. In fact, he has a signature Ibanez. "Paul Gilbert's Ibanez"

Whether you were refering to a "signature" guitar or not was not specified. However, Steve Vai actually invented a guitar for Ibanez.

"Steve Vai's Ibanez" is a seven string. "Paul Gilbert's Ibanez" is not. That's a difference.

That is a correct answer. On Jeopardy, when this happens, the judges realize that the contestant produced a correct answer that was not forseen by the writer of the question. This is the fault of the question writer, and not the contestant.

Ibby 08-01-2006 06:43 PM

But STEVE VAI'S IBANEZ IS NOT A 7-STRING. He HAS an Ibanez that has seven strings, but so does Gilbert. Therefore the answer is not valid.

Flint 08-01-2006 06:46 PM

You didn't specify, in the question, whether you meant a "signature" guitar, or a guitar that the person actually invented. I answered the question, in it's original form, correctly. You can't make new rules up after I already answered correctly.

Ibby 08-01-2006 06:59 PM

Vai has designed more than one model of guitar, and did not invent the 7-string guitar. Please, Flint, just STOP.

Griff 08-01-2006 07:05 PM

:corn:

Clodfobble 08-02-2006 12:13 AM

But Ibram, if Flint didn't answer the question, and you have since given the correct answer to prove he didn't, doesn't that mean we're all still waiting for you to give us a new question?

Ibby 08-02-2006 04:34 AM

No, I didn't give the correct answer; However, I did clarify that Vai's guitar is the Jem and Gilbert's is the PGM.

Flint 08-02-2006 08:05 AM

Vai has a whammy bar?

:::whispers::: But you didn't specify which one, in the original queston, did you?

Shawnee123 08-02-2006 08:30 AM

So, what is the question? :p

Ibby 08-02-2006 08:45 AM

Now, THAT answer... While not what I was looking for, IS correct.

Steve Vai's Jem:

Paul Gilbert's PGM:
http://www.ibanez.com/guitars/thumbs/PGM301WH.jpg

I was LOOKING for 'Vai's has a monkey grip and Gilbert's has painted F-holes', but, the Jem does have a trem, and the PGM has a fixed bridge... Your turn

Flint 08-02-2006 08:48 AM

Cool. You know I was just kidding around, right?

My question: Who performed the voice of Bald-Headed John, on the Frank Zappa album Joe's Garage?

Undertoad 08-02-2006 08:56 AM

Steve Vai?

Shawnee123 08-02-2006 08:57 AM

Paul Gilbert?

Flint 08-02-2006 09:07 AM

ha ha ha . . . no.

Shawnee123 08-02-2006 09:23 AM

 Ummm...

Telly Savalas?

(Sorry, don't have a clue so I have to be facetious! I'm a smart-ass)

Spexxvet 08-02-2006 09:31 AM

Flo?
Eddie?
Frank?
Dweezle?
Ahmed?
Joe?
Ringo Starr?

wolf 08-02-2006 09:43 AM

Williiam S. Burroughs (I have no idea, I just think he was cool. And he was bald. And appears on other people's albums.)

glatt 08-02-2006 09:46 AM

Tom Smothers was bald too. Was it him?

Flint 08-02-2006 09:49 AM

Some good guesses, but nobody got it yet.

Shawnee123 08-02-2006 09:50 AM

Gallagher?

Undertoad 08-02-2006 09:54 AM

I looked it up, and nobody is going to get it, but I enjoyed the answer. I liked a lot of what that guy did. Give them some hints flints

Flint 08-02-2006 09:56 AM

I'm perfectly willing to give hints on this one, I was just testing the waters for a litttle while. Let me just say: Steve Vai was actually a very good guess.

Ibby 08-02-2006 10:03 AM

Satch? He wasnt bald back then, but he is now...

Flint 08-02-2006 10:05 AM

No, and it's not Michael Bolton either.

glatt 08-02-2006 10:10 AM

The musician or the Office Space guy?

Flint 08-02-2006 10:14 AM

It's not both of them.
