Multi-talented, I'm a distinguisher (one who helps the new president distinguish between his thoughts and the thoughts of those who tell him what to say), a chair holder (one who holds chairs down) and a pocket integrity maintainer (one who keeps pants and coat pockets from turning inside out)

Damn. Good to see you back in the Cellar, Cane.

Healthcare IT (computer guy)
For about a decade after school, I got by doing on again/off again construction and local drumming gigs.
Seven years ago I took a “normal” job as a file clerk in a hospital. That year, they implemented a PACS (computer system) to replace the film library. I immediately read all the documentation I could get my hands on and started establishing myself as a goto person for PACs help. Flash forward several years and I was the PACS Administrator, and had tripled my salary (my wife coached me on harassing mgmt for compensation). Late last year, after being unable to get industry standard compensation for what I was doing (and with recruiters ringing my phone off the hook) I used The Cellar as a resource to coach me through a job search. I found a position at a start-up hospital, where I am one third of a three-man IT department that handles literally everything--doing three times the work in half the time. I am very happy to have found something I can do to provide for my wife and two small children. |
Hard to make a living in the music buisiness at the club level aint it, Flint. I tried it for years. Hard.... but fun.

What were you playing Capn?

I was the front man in a bar band locally. I play guotar, keys and clarinet. None that well. But I've been singing since I started in a gospel quartet at age 7. Now about all I do is play acoustic(strum chords) and sing classic country and some older rock at parties and around the fire. There were 4 other guys in our group. Name: Blue Collar Band. (We all had day jobs). I was never good enough on the 6 stringer for the guys to let me play except on a couple of solo #s I'd do when someone popped a string or something. After the band broke up I played solo with just me and a flattop and a small pa fora while... I had to really sing well to keep the crowds mind off my guitar licks. I can still remember and perform around 70 songs, mostly from the 70's era. I miss being young. Young enough to actually believe us guys would be big one day. I also love to satire. I'll post one of my parodies on the lyrics with meaning thread soon.

I'm a professional lay about. Yay, economic crisis! (Seriously, don't get me started, I can bitch on this topic for months) Its all cool though. Come the ensuing societal collapse and Mad Max future that inevitably awaits us all, I'll be a warlord. Motorbikes, lead and looting will be our primary exports.

Occupation? Isn't that something invading armies do?
My job is...nothing, currently. I am a lay about, more by circumstance than choice. I just chose the worst time in the last 70 years to graduate with a degree that doesn't necessarily guarantee employment and, in case you missed it, the economy sucks just ever so slightly at the moment. I'm looking to do postgrad studies, but because I am neither rich, nor an idiot, I'm looking for courses which pay a stipend or come with a scholarship. Since I'm sure as fuck not gonna get a job around here. |
Good luck to you... and welcome

Thanks. We'll see how it goes with applications. I've got a couple of good research proposals worked out, I just need to get them down on paper properly...
