it is NOT.

and that's because it's from Slaughterhouse 5 by Vonnegut.

Quote:

Billy is captured by an alien space ship and taken to a planet billions of miles away from Earth called Tralfamadore. The Tralfamadorians are described as being able to see in four dimensions, allowing them to simultaneously observe any and every point in the space-time continuum. They universally adopt a fatalistic worldview. The book adopts the Tralfamadorian philosophy on death, dispassionately saying "so it goes" whenever it refers to someone's demise.

Quote:

Literary techniques

The story continually employs the refrain "So it goes" when death, dying and mortality occur, as a narrative transition to another subject, as a memento mori, as comic relief and to explain the unexplained. It appears 106 times.[6][7]
My usage is more for the transitive than mortality.

lumberjim 11-13-2015 11:32 AM

and thanks a lot for making me turn off Tool to listen to that gay ass shit. ;)

xoxoxoBruce 11-13-2015 11:38 AM

You can turn your tool on and off just like that. Wow.:notworthy

Gravdigr 11-13-2015 11:38 AM

That Nick owe tune smacks of Thin Lizzy. Sort of "The Boys Are Back In Town"-ish.

Kinda.

lumberjim 11-13-2015 11:43 AM

Yes it does. I hate that fucken song

82 days ago, we traded an '05 Harley Davidson Electra Glide

It sat in the showroom all this time waiting for someone to buy it. The used car manager said he wanted it, but didn't have the money... I told him that if he was gonna pass, I'd take it. After 75 days, it needed to be wholesaled. He finally told me on Thursday that he wasn't going to buy it. I thought about it for about 3 minutes and bought it. I don't need it. I now have to figure out how to fit it in the garage with my Yamaha... But it was only $1800, and the wholesaler had offered $4000. It's got terrible paint and high miles (52300) but it's in good mechanical condition, fresh tires, etc. So I caught a break with the weather today, and I'm riding it home after work.

Attachment 55292

I'll ride it a while, maybe use it for longer trips... and sell it on. unless I love it, and want to keep it.....

xoxoxoBruce 02-20-2016 01:17 PM

And you didn't even have to wear a mask. Score! :thumb2:

Gravdigr 02-20-2016 04:05 PM

Great deal, man. Lots of 'Glides out there with 100,000+ miles. 50k miles is barely out of the shakedown run.

Griff 02-21-2016 10:16 AM

That there is a bargain bro, congrats!

lumberjim 02-21-2016 12:55 PM

Rode it about 10 miles today with Amanda. She approved. Much more secure feeling for the passenger, what with the foot platforms and arm rests. It even has chrome bars for her to hold onto next to her seat. It handles better than the VStar in corners, but not as nimble at low speed. And they both fit it my garage!

Gravdigr 02-21-2016 01:48 PM

I've heard, and read, that their handling belies their size.

Gravdigr 02-21-2016 01:49 PM

I'd be interested to know how suspension travel compares to the Yamaha.

lumberjim 02-21-2016 07:04 PM

The Yamaha has a 450lb payload. The HD has 523. You feel bumps much harder on the former.

And the handling in corners may be smoother because the front tire is bigger. I get to a point on the Yamaha where I feel resistance to leaning any further, and I'm thinking that might be the edge of the skinny front tire...

lumberjim 03-09-2016 06:10 PM

Well, the electra Glide passed PA inspection today. I really like riding it. I mean a lot. It's smooth as glass, and surprisingly nimble for a big bike. The ferring is much more effective in shielding you from the wind, and it's barely working at 80 mph.

I liked it so much today that I began to wonder about selling the Yamaha and sprucing this one up with the money.

And then I took the Yamaha out to the store. Nope. Definitely not selling that bike. It's like home. So loud and raucous. And it's so familiar, I don't have to think. It just goes there. Guess I'm going to have a crowded garage for a while.

lumberjim 03-09-2016 06:15 PM

Oh, I also replaced the rubber pads in the front floorboards today. The right side one was hanging by one of four rubber mounts. 1st official upgrade. And I got replacement hardware for the tour pack mount, as that rattles annoyingly. Didn't install that yet. That might get involved. And I need a new front tire soon. And I ordered an X-grip phone mount like I have on the Yamaha.

Just when I had the Yamaha finished and was done spending money at revzilla....

xoxoxoBruce 03-09-2016 11:00 PM

Have you ever seen Electra glide in Blue?

lumberjim 03-10-2016 06:10 AM

Nope. Good?

xoxoxoBruce 03-10-2016 12:23 PM

Kind of strange. Short cop with an inferiority complex, so nothing you can relate to, but entertainment.

Gravdigr 03-10-2016 12:44 PM

Old Robert Blake flick...

lumberjim 03-10-2016 01:23 PM

Thinking about painting it. I want to do the Yamaha in flat pearl white eventually, so not white... Flat black? Turquoise? Teal? Wood paneling?

xoxoxoBruce 03-10-2016 01:29 PM

If you paint it clear you'll be able to see how much gas is in the tank. :haha:

I'm set on color now. Going to do this a little backwards. I ordered a new Corbin seat today:

Attachment 55613

And then I'm going to paint the bike to match those colors

like this, but in Navy and White
Attachment 55615

Not sure about logos yet, but thinking silver pinstriping to match the welt of the seat. Maybe a simple blue star in the middle of the white tear drop shape on the tank. Cowboys!

Cowboys shit, it'll look like a cop. :eyebrow:

lumberjim 03-15-2016 09:12 PM

True. Hadn't occurred to me. Don't really see that as a bad thing I guess....

limey 03-16-2016 01:32 AM

My brother used to rode an ex-police BMW bike. He said it was very funny how people suddenly slowed down when they clocked him in their rear view mirror! Every time. Just the shape of the bike was enough to give them the horrors.

lumberjim 03-18-2016 04:28 PM

I spent a couple hours polishing aluminum on the Harley this afternoon. The transformation is amazing. But it's tedious as fuck. Got one fork mostly done and two smallish covers on the right side. I'm dreading tackling the big piece on the left.... Some disassembly may be required.... Tired of it now.... Late for my nap.

lumberjim 03-18-2016 07:24 PM

Just to give you a sense of the difference...

That's the left side. I did go over the case once with steel wool and chrome polish, so the little white rings are gone, but it still looks very dull and weathered.

lumberjim 03-18-2016 07:26 PM

Here's the side I worked on today :

That stuff looked as bad or worse than the previous pictures.

lumberjim 03-18-2016 07:31 PM

And that's just the first two grits . I used ebony compound, then red. Next is mother's aluminum polish. That should make it shine just shy of a chrome luster. I like it.

xoxoxoBruce 03-18-2016 08:04 PM

Don't get it to the point you don't want to drive it for fear of getting it dirty. ;)

lumberjim 03-18-2016 08:17 PM

Nah. Not in my nature. This bike is currently out of my tolerance zone, though. How do you let a Harley that you bought new get this bad?

Answer : by being stupid enough to take $1500 for it in trade when you buy a new Nissan Rogue.

xoxoxoBruce 03-18-2016 08:36 PM

People do the same with cars, which I'm sure you've seen plenty of. It's just a tool with no emotional involvement, just use it, run it through the car wash occasionally, and discard(trade) it for another tool.
The Harley thing drew a lot of non-riders who bought the whole if you only had a Harley, women would want you and men would want to be you, shtick. But when they found out women wanted you to stay the fuck away from their babies, and men wanted to run you(and everyone) off the road, the dream faded. There's no potholes or traffic jams in Harley ads.
There's a shitload of Harleys gathering dust in garages across the country that rarely get ridden, but give legitimacy to wearing tons of Harley gear, and having a Harley sticker on their pickup or Cadillac.

Griff 03-19-2016 08:21 AM

Looking good! How are your joints?

lumberjim 03-19-2016 11:39 AM

Badoom tcha

Griff 03-19-2016 12:48 PM

lumberjim 03-19-2016 03:58 PM

actually, I used a cloth polishing bit and a dewalt hand drill to do most of the buffing. A Black and Decker rotary tool (dremel) for tight spots.

glatt 03-19-2016 05:00 PM

Huge difference. It looks really good.

lumberjim 03-22-2016 11:25 PM

Tomorrow is forecast to be a nice day to ride. I'm off, as it happens.

First order of business will be to install the gremlin bells I received from one secret zippy santa, and Amanda hugandkiss on the respective motorcycles. My kids mocked me for being superstitious.... But I'll tell you.... The bell I had on the Yamaha fell off sometime early in our big trip last year, and I had some problems with the wiring for the speakers and the USB charger died during that trip.

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...0fb5f3e109.jpg
This one ZippyT sent in my secret santa package. It's gonna go under the VStar.

Amanda got me this one for the Electra Glide.

xoxoxoBruce 03-23-2016 09:51 PM

Be careful, you'll be blinding people and they could run over you while in a light induced frenzy... or a couple miles down the road while texting their friends about it.

lumberjim 04-01-2016 10:45 PM

My seat was delivered today.

I ordered it from Corbin. That's where I got the seat for the Yamaha, and I was well pleased with that seat. They custom build each seat to your specs, and you pay a lot for it. The picture I posted earlier is from their configurator. I called and went over it in detail with Janice. This is what I got...

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...9dc1c39fd1.jpg

As you can see, it's quite different from what I expected.

I could have probably lived with that. But the back rest for the tour pack is ridiculous.

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...7f6690575a.jpg

The tops of the arms and the wrap around should be black. I only wanted white on the outside arm rest panels.

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...8be51ae3f7.jpg

lumberjim 04-01-2016 10:46 PM

And the saddle should have an extra blue band running between the driver and passenger seats.... And the welt should go all the way around....

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...1ec97e4101.jpg

lumberjim 04-01-2016 10:52 PM

I put them on the bike to test fitment, but as of now they are back in the box awaiting pick up from fed ex tomorrow.... Back to Cali.... With notes and masking tape labels on how to fix my shit..... Probably cost me a month. Which means the body shop won't get the work until May.... And they'll be busier... And it will take even longer.....

Balls.

But on a positive note, I found out that Victory Brewing is bringing Sour Monkey back on July 1st.

Wow, that sucks. For what Corbin charges the shit should be spot on. :(

Today's job was replacing the stock mufflers. I went with Vance and Hines dual Slash cut rounds.

Stock mufflers off. 3 bolts per side.

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...a5f9f8db71.jpg

This bike is much easier to work on than the Yamaha.

lumberjim 04-08-2016 06:51 PM

The new slip ons:

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...efb385885a.jpg

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...ec6ad54616.jpg

The hardest part was getting the old pipes to come off after 11 years. Had to break out the wd40 and the rubber mallet.

The new ones went on with minimal jiggling and a few taps from the mallet.

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...fe4ece9c02.jpg

Sounds much more better

BigV 04-08-2016 10:53 PM

What?

No video of the straight pipes?

lumberjim 04-09-2016 09:20 AM

I listened to a few other guys' on YouTube but it doesn't do it justice. I'm sure you've heard the sound. It sounds like a Harley.

xoxoxoBruce 04-09-2016 10:24 AM

potato, potato, potato. ;)

or did you mean when i had the old mufflers off, but not yet put on the new? no, I didn't video that either, but I DID start it up and rev it a bit. Couldn't resist. It's way too loud like that. The Yamaha is almost that loud, with it's 2.75" straights... but that one borders on too loud. I wanted this to be loud enough to hear me inside a car, but not so loud that I annoy my neighbors.
