This is the sign that welcomes you as you drive into Hondo, Texas. I love it because it is welcoming but direct in making a point in a Texan kind of way. And there are plenty of cops around to enforce it
|
Floating, that is cool. I have always wanted to go there. Do you have more you care to share? How about of the Sphinx?
|
sho nuff....after I find em. the sphinx is way fuxored though after many years of humans dicking around with it...sucks

Nice pictures, Papa. :thumb:
I found the place fascinating, but a lot of people on the tour said it was spooky or depressing. |
I would love to go there. Thanks for the pics.
|
Glad you liked them. More here.

Here's an account of the escape at the FBI website.
Wow, you have some great photos there, gromitspapa. Thanks! |
My wife and I have visited the Alcatraz park a number of times in the early 80's. Doesn't look like it has changed much. Beautiful pics.
|
Alcatraz Island, Pelican Island - oh wait, I have a photo of pelicans I could share.

|
Yeah. What happy monkey said.:D
|
So, do even own a camera or what?
|
Uh...yeah. What would you like a picture of for me to prove that I own a camera?
While you're thinking, wash your eyes out with this... http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1177/...b651581778.jpg |

Wow, that's impressive. I didn't realize Venus would show up as a disk with that little magnification. Very nice picture.

Not really neat pictures I've taken; I'm no photographer. Here is my river. South and North views.

Uprooted but hanging in there. And blurry ducks you can barely see.

Were you way down upon the Shawnee River?

Actually, it's the Miami...but good enough. ;)

Lake Tahoe, California
http://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r.../laketahoe.jpg Kirkwood, California - We were almost down to dirt and rocks right before this last storm unloaded 9 feet of snow. http://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r...s/IMG_0232.jpg http://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r...s/IMG_0235.jpg http://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r...s/IMG_0236.jpg |

BUSTED! Here's a squirrel that chewed his way through our bird seed container. We didn't name him because he became the main ingredient in a tasty stew after we fattened him up! J/K

Indeed it is Tahoe, Sierra-at-Tahoe in those paticular pictures. I live in South Lake Tahoe. Oh, and those pictures were only two days apart. We had temperatures up in the high 50's then it dropped to 14 degrees and snowed 3 feet in one night, and then it warmed up again. That's California for you... |

At Merc's request:
The first photo is from last year. I don't know what kind of snake it is, but perhaps somebody can tell me. It also serves as a scale (har) for the following photo of yesterday's snake. That snake was already well into the ground below the mulberry tree so I was able to creep up on it without it slithering out of sight. |
Excellent!
|
Sweet, what state do you live in and which part of the state?
|
Sweetwater: I don't know what kind of snake it is, but perhaps somebody can tell me.
Oh, that's an easy one. It's the kind that needs a live, ticking hand grenade shoved up its ass. |

Taken yesterday at the San Diego Wild Animal Park. If you have any idea what kind of butterfly this is, please let me know. |
Papillo paliniurus, Green Swallowtail, cryptically enough, and a lovely specimen and a lovely photograph.
Brava! |

Photo from today's backyard safari. I wish my eyes were better so I could get the focus right, but I hope the subject matter makes it interesting for others. Think Hallmark would want to use it for a Mother's Day card? :D

Great find, Sweetwater!

Anyone know anything about lizards? I took this picture yesterday at the L.A. Arboretum. Is that an egg behind its right rear leg?

The snake looks similar to a common water snake. Water snakes can have a wide variety of colorings and markings. I am leaning towards the Yellow-bellied Watersnake only because the Juvi with it has distinct yellow on the bottom.
