This is the sign that welcomes you as you drive into Hondo, Texas. I love it because it is welcoming but direct in making a point in a Texan kind of way. And there are plenty of cops around to enforce it

TheMercenary 01-30-2009 08:38 AM

Floating, that is cool. I have always wanted to go there. Do you have more you care to share? How about of the Sphinx?

floatingk 02-19-2009 03:08 PM

Nice pictures, Papa. :thumb:
I found the place fascinating, but a lot of people on the tour said it was spooky or depressing.

Shawnee123 02-21-2009 06:55 AM

I would love to go there. Thanks for the pics.

Gromitspapa 02-21-2009 11:41 AM

Glad you liked them. More here.

Wow, you have some great photos there, gromitspapa. Thanks!

My wife and I have visited the Alcatraz park a number of times in the early 80's. Doesn't look like it has changed much. Beautiful pics.

Alcatraz Island, Pelican Island - oh wait, I have a photo of pelicans I could share.

Wow, that's impressive. I didn't realize Venus would show up as a disk with that little magnification. Very nice picture.

Yeah...its a cotton helmet...I suppose
Indeed it is Tahoe, Sierra-at-Tahoe in those paticular pictures. I live in South Lake Tahoe.

Oh, and those pictures were only two days apart. We had temperatures up in the high 50's then it dropped to 14 degrees and snowed 3 feet in one night, and then it warmed up again. That's California for you...

At Merc's request:
The first photo is from last year. I don't know what kind of snake it is, but perhaps somebody can tell me. It also serves as a scale (har) for the following photo of yesterday's snake. That snake was already well into the ground below the mulberry tree so I was able to creep up on it without it slithering out of sight.

glatt 04-01-2009 10:12 AM

Excellent!

TheMercenary 04-01-2009 10:57 AM

Sweet, what state do you live in and which part of the state?

Gravdigr 04-04-2009 04:57 PM

Sweetwater: I don't know what kind of snake it is, but perhaps somebody can tell me.

Oh, that's an easy one. It's the kind that needs a live, ticking hand grenade shoved up its ass.

Photo from today's backyard safari. I wish my eyes were better so I could get the focus right, but I hope the subject matter makes it interesting for others. Think Hallmark would want to use it for a Mother's Day card? :D

The snake looks similar to a common water snake. Water snakes can have a wide variety of colorings and markings. I am leaning towards the Yellow-bellied Watersnake only because the Juvi with it has distinct yellow on the bottom.
