Oh buggeration....yes wrong thread lol. And that's exactly the kind of movie I had in mind.

Today I ate a pub lunch. It was my friend Craig's 24th birthday and I usually buy him lunch on his birthday down at the Plummet Line.

I didn't take camera (booo!) so will have to rely on description instead.

We both had 'Smothered Chicken' which is chicken breast smothered in a rich barbeque sauce and topped with bacon and cheese (melted). Served with chips (proper pub chips) and peas (Craig had beans) and on the side, I had mini cobs, with were bigger than I imagined and there were three of them, served with cajun spicy butter. Craig had onion rings.

Pub portions are ridiculous. Somehow I managed to eat most of it just because it was so damn tasty, but my did I feel bloated after!

Avocadostan continued

Not a song that will make any top 10, but perhaps relevant to the topic at hand...

----------------------------
Song by Jens Lekman...

i was slicing up an avocado
when you came up behind me
with your quiet brand new sneakers
your reflection i did not see
it was the hottest day in august
and we were heading for the sea
for a second my mind started drifting

you put your arms around me
you put your arms around me
you put your arms around

blood sprayed on the kitchen sink
whats this? i had time to think
i see the tip of my index finger
my mind is slowly creating a link
from your mouth speaks your lovely voice
the best comments ive ever heard
oh honey you've cut off your finger

i bet thats gotta hurt
you put your arms me
you put your arms me
you put your arms around

i must've passed out on the porch
id never seen so many bright stars
when i wake up im in the waiting room
of the local e.r.
my hand is wrapped in toilet paper
and my shirts all blood red
i see you standing there like an angel

and i say baby i must be dead
you put your arms around me
you put your arms around me
you put your arms around me

Speaking of avocados, I was inebriated, shall we say, last night and when dinner time came I made myself a nice guacamole sandwich on olive loaf. :yelsick:

Okay - I can believe I ate it, but this seems the most appropriate thread.

I had the Polpette al Forno. Beef meatballs, fire-roasted peppers, caramelised onions, garlic, chillies, pomodoro sauce and penne. The olives scattered randomly on top are from my Mum's pizza. I forgot to ask for it without olives -oops! She didn't mind. For one thing she wanted me to order because my Italian pronunication is better than hers, and for two they're so easy to remove!

Mum had the Napoletana pizza. Marinated king prawns, tuna, anchovies, black olives, caramelised onions, capers and dill. The pic does not do it justice. It was too fishy for my taste, but it certainly wasn't undercookd or flabby, which I think it looks in the photo.

Dad had lasagne (boooooring!) and we decided that did not warrant a photo.

Bed time snack. Raisins, dried cherries, frosted mini shredded wheat with a dab of vanilla ice cream. Nite all

Frenger 07-02-2009 06:49 AM

Sundae Girl that meal looks... glorious. Did you manage to eat all that?

Shawnee123 07-02-2009 07:34 AM

I hate this thread. grumble.

Not really, it just makes me really hungry. :(

The pizza was Mum's - my pasta dish was the right size for one person. And yes, Mum needed help to finish the pizza. Dad and I stepped up to the plate... as it were.

Pie 07-02-2009 08:21 AM

Sauteed beet greens, zucchini, spring onions and farfalle pasta. With a little diced chicken for Mr. Pie, bits of smoked salmon for yours truly. Cherries for dessert.

The day before it was bbq turkey meatloaves with a saute of green peas, radishes and spring onions.

All veggies from our farm share -- we're getting more today.

Moving so quickly from oven to plate that it didn't even show up on film...

Made some cornbread last night.
Monster Cornbread. Four Cheese Cornbread.

Okay - monster because she sent it to me, as a complete darling.
Four cheese because that's what I added, just what we had in the fridge. Parmesan, mature (sharp) Cheddar, Welsh goat's cheese and danish Blue.

I couldn't resist a piece warm from the baking tray. Nor could Mum.
By the time they came home from Mass there were only 3 pieces left and they disappeared under our combined assault.

It was really, really good.

I'll take a pic next time, I promise. I still have a packet to go. I've been saving it for a special occasion, and having that many different cheeses ready to go was one :)

Added some Italian Herbs & Garlic - lazy but useful. And Cajun Spices - enough to give a sniff of a kick, little enough so that Mum could enjoy it too. I learned from eating a whole pan of Kick Yo Ass Hot that you can overdose on spicy cornbread...

Can't Believe I Just Ate...

...a Sally Lunn. The yeast-risen kind, I understand, from the castmember who baked it for us.

Came out a bit dry, but the whipped cream and the jam rescued matters. Syd thinks she might try a slightly shorter baking time as long as she's using a Bundt pan.

A Sally Lunn Recipe and commentary

Might try whipped-creaming 'em and parking them in the fridge overnight to moisten.

Pizza makes me fart, Zero makes me burp.

Apparently, if I was dating half of the guys I work with, they would of dumped me about 10 minutes ago.

ZenGum 07-20-2009 08:04 AM

... but the other half would nominate you as team captain in the burpanfartathon at the local pub.

(or, .... but are you dating half the guys you work with? :p )

DucksNuts 07-21-2009 04:13 AM

Nah, I work with a bunch of early 20's, I shant be dating any of them.

My big himbo is lovely to look at though, 22, 6'3, football player.....he's very drool worthy, kinda thick, but you have to love him when he looks like that.

Ducks: Hi, handsome - how are you feeling (flutters eyelids).

Himbo: Oh. Err. Good.

Ducks: Is there anything you'd like to ... do?

Himbo: Uh. mm. Footy.

Ducks: Oh. [winks, pouts] Anything ... else?

Himbo: Mmm. Yeah. Beer.

Two scrambled eggs, a giant fluffy pancake, and three pieces of bacon. Usually eat a bowl of granola for breakfast - pretty sure I'm gonna explode.

casimendocina 08-11-2009 09:57 PM

Pichanga

This would have to be one of the most disgusting culinary(?) items on offer here. It contains..potato chips, beef, chicken, fried egg, chorizo and hotdog sausages.

Last night's actually was quite edible. The first one I tried a few months ago was disgusting and inedible beyond belief.

Much embarrassed shifting of feet, avoiding eye-contact and promising to eat more healthily in future (after throwing the empty M & M's packet in the bin).

Sometimes, but usually its like....

Me: Did you call [important customer here]?

Himbo: (avoiding eye contact) Err, I will, when I get back from lunch, what do you think I should say?

Me: Fucking jesus, do I look like your Mother.....(notice the no question mark here)

Himbo: ....[too long a pause for my liking]

Me: I will beat you like a step child in a minute.

Himbo: Positions hands under Des & Troy for the obligatory flex, he even looks at them both to make sure my attention is on them

Me: That shit doesnt work with me, make the call.

Himbo sulks away whilst I am TOTALLY checking out his arse and doing that little smile that says "I have to luv him or I may kill him....plus he is totally hot".

Can you put a % on the amount of time spent flexing Des and Troy?

ZenGum 08-16-2009 10:28 PM

:lol2:

Ducks, what kind of business is this? I think something mechanical, was it? Panel beating, perhaps?

kerosene 08-18-2009 08:18 PM

Eggplant Parmesan from allrecipes.com:

INGREDIENTS

* 3 eggplant, peeled and thinly sliced (I didn't bother peeling them...why?)
* 2 eggs, beaten
* 4 cups Italian seasoned bread crumbs
* 6 cups spaghetti sauce, divided (you probably don't need this much)
* 1 (16 ounce) package mozzarella cheese, shredded and divided
* 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese, divided
* 1/2 teaspoon dried basil

DIRECTIONS

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
2. Dip eggplant slices in egg, then in bread crumbs. Place in a single layer on a baking sheet. Bake in preheated oven for 5 minutes on each side.
3. In a 9x13 inch baking dish spread spaghetti sauce to cover the bottom. Place a layer of eggplant slices in the sauce. Sprinkle with mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses. Repeat with remaining ingredients, ending with the cheeses. Sprinkle basil on top.
4. Bake in preheated oven for 35 minutes, or until golden brown.

Not enough ;) the boy is very well put together, and hilarious.

I wouldn't trade him for anything and his girlfriend is really lovely... I wonder how she puts up with him.

Bloody hell, Ducks. Your dialogue actually turned me on!
Although I admit, my libido is really perking up since I've come off the Trazadone. I mean... really.

I made some yummy potats the other night.
Nothing all that special - and certainly not by Cellar standards - but spesh for me just because I bothered to cook rather than just add water/ microwave/ unwrap.

Reviewing the photo. they look a little cold, and greasy. They weren't. They were hot and crispy and yum.

Queen of the Ryche 08-19-2009 02:08 PM

I think they look delish! Add a piece of poached fish and some steamed veggies and that is my idea of a perfect meal!

monster 05-12-2010 08:04 AM

I can't believe I just ate two pieces of homemade scottish shortbread before breakfast, having just cancelled today's 2.5-hour gymathon and while thinking about the oatmeal I was going to make to fill me up and be healthy. My arteries are going to leave my body, turn round and strangle me ...I made the damn shortbread, I know just how much butter is in there.... :(

xoxoxoBruce 05-12-2010 08:16 AM

Bah, butter used in shortbread becomes benign, as do the sugar and flour. Even the salt becomes completely harmless in shortbread, my Grandma said so.

Oh, wait... she was a lying bitch... nevermind

monster 05-12-2010 09:36 AM

shit, should never have clicked this thread.... now I want another piece!

MUST... GO... MAKE... PORRIDGE..... healthy filling stuff....... MUST RESIST URGE.

(and now I want hash browns and bacon too) Arg! I should go work out upstaris or something, but I was using the bonus free time to catch up on housework and paperwork.... )
