They usually just "report" direct quotes. They put their analysis at the top, and the complete context at the bottom. Sometimes, the only bit that is theirs is the headline.

Often, when a Limbaugh quote (for example) is brought up, people claim it was taken out of context. So MM includes the context. So people attack their funding. As if MM's funding somehow made Limbaugh say something stupid. Or FOX misidentify a scandal-plagued Republican as a Democrat.

Maybe we should have an "Idiot of the Day" thread. In any case, Sanford's wife certainly qualifies:

http://thediscust.com/?p=547

"South Carolina first lady Jenny Sanford released another statement today, this time blaming her husband’s affair on the declining moral values in America.

“Of course I’m not saying that Mark is gay,” Sanford said, “but he may as well be. The moral decay in this country has claimed another victim and this time it was my family. Our marriage was perfect until these laws started passing around the country. Clearly the slow dissolution of the sanctity of marriage in America seeped into Mark’s psyche until he no longer felt compelled to abide by our vows.”

Social conservatives were quick to show their support for the first lady’s statement.

“It’s finally happened,” said Rush Limbaugh, conservative radio personality. “America, I’ve been warning you for years that gay marriage would destroy the American family and look… there they are, a husband, wife, and four children — destroyed. When is this going to stop America? When will the liberals be satisfied? When all the marriages break up? This wasn’t Mark Sanford’s fault, this was Ted Kennedy’s fault. Sanford didn’t cheapen the value of marriage, he was victimized by the cheapening of marriage.”"

Just think! A perfect marriage until those nasty gays wanted their rights! Wow! Most marriages are not nearly that perfect!

That's a parody site.

joelnwil 07-02-2009 11:07 AM

Just testing you. Pretty quick, H. M.

The parody does ring true, however.

Happy Monkey 07-02-2009 11:26 AM

It sure does.

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina's first lady, a former Wall Street vice president who helped launch her husband's political career, filed for divorce Friday more than five months after his tearful public confession of an affair with an Argentine woman.

The governor blamed himself and said he and Jenny will "work earnestly to be the best mom and dad we can be to four of the finest boys on earth.

"While it is not the course I would have hoped for, or would choose, I want to take full responsibility for the moral failure that led us to this tragic point," he said in a statement.

Jenny Sanford's announcement came after a week of wrenching twists, including a legislative panel's decision Wednesday to turn aside an impeachment push in favor of a formal rebuke for the governor's conduct.

"Certainly his actions hurt me, and they caused consequences for me, but they don't in any way take away my own self-esteem. They reflect poorly on him."

"The defendant has engaged in a sexual relationship with a woman other than plaintiff," the complaint reads. "Plaintiff has not condoned that relationship and is informed and believes that she is entitled to a divorce ... from the defendant on the grounds of adultery."
