jinx and I were right near you. they were only up for a little while, right? I might have been driving by looking at the very umbrella you were standing under. in my silly hippie clothes smoking a hand rolled cigarette and listening to bob marley in the chevette.

I think they were only up for like 2 weeks or something like that. I remember my mom saying we needed to go see them on a certain weekend or else they would be gone. I could be wrong about how long they were up, but regardless of the time, it wasn't very long.
Like I said before, its pretty fucking cool that you got to see them as well.

EDIT: According to the website you linked to on page 3, they were only up for 3 weeks. I cant believe putting those huge things up only to take them down 3 weeks later.

Just saw the Dead last night at the [Corporate Name] Pavilion outside DC.

It was a lot of fun. They sounded good. The new guy, Warren, is a great addition to the band. His voice sounds quite a bit like Jerry's, and he's a better singer than Weir. This is only my 4th show, I knew about half of the songs they played, and a lot of them were covers.
The highlight for me was Casey Jones at the end of the first set. They really did a good job before going off to take their break. Today, we actually ordered the recording of the show from their webpage primarily just for that song. I hope it sounds as good at home as it did in person.

The vibe is still very much the same as the shows I saw 10+ years ago. There are still a lot of young people following them, but for the most part, the the fans are aging. Lots of babies and toddlers in tow. I'm sure lots more were at home, like ours, with sitters. The average age of the fans was probably about 35-40. There were some old geezers there though.

I hadn't smelled pot in a while. It smelled kind of good.

We got home at about midnight, and both took some tylenol for our aching knees. Too much dancing in place on concrete for these old (37 y.o.) folks!

Rainbow Gathering? Weird, I didn't expect to read about that here, from lumberjim. My first Rainbow was the 20th anniversary in Colorado. What a life-changing experience that was, a total immersion into a culture with a truly different perspective on things. So many great stories about that.
