Laser lense.

Solar eclipse lense

Kitsune 08-16-2009 08:50 AM

It's an IC of some kind, like an EPROM with a UV window or a small CPU sans heatsink.

Oh! Is it a CMOS sensor for a digital camera?

Kitsune is basically correct in that is an IC, but Bruce is actually closest.
It's from another type of projector, a DLP as opposed to the LCD I took apart last time.
That is a Digital Micromirror Device.
From Wikipedia...
"In DLP projectors, the image is created by microscopically small mirrors laid out in a matrix on a semiconductor chip, known as a Digital Micromirror Device (DMD). Each mirror represents one or more pixels in the projected image."
That little sucker has close to a million ittybitty mirrors that are physically moved electrostatically in an on/off fashion to represent each pixel of an image.
The scale on the ruler is inches.

I just read that Wiki entry for DMDs. Bullshit... what they described is not possible. I mean, 16 micrometres across?... 1024 shades of gray?... SRAMs? C'mon, they just won't admit it's really magic, will they... not fooling me though, I know they've got pointy hats and dead black cats in the back room. :eyebrow:

Bruce, Bruce, Bruce...the black cats aren't much use if they're dead.

Clodfobble 08-17-2009 08:42 AM

Well they weren't dead, until you had to go and open the door.

Huck Finn had a litany of uses for them.

paperclip

ZenGum 12-19-2009 12:58 AM

After constipation-from-hell and Thor's paperclip, I think it looks like a device used to hold railway lines onto the sleepers ("crossties" as you quaint bumpkins call them ;) ).
