That is all I did to discover it.

What is this "connection poser"?

Well those two questions are candidates for top awards in a certain category.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I_Love_Lucy

As for the third choice:

When I read of glatt's son's good news, I realized I did not know of UMW and looked it up.
It sounds like a very nice institution and one worth considering.
One possible plus is that in 2006-2007, its President was a man named William Frawley.
Now it is dropped.

Gravdigr 11-30-2019 03:38 PM

Thud.

sexobon 11-30-2019 03:39 PM

People probably just expected more, when the term "connection" was used, than that a former university president (who was fired for repeated DUIs) coincidentally had the same name as the well known actor (who died 40 years earlier) who played on I Love Lucy. That was an extremely loose association like we might find in the Word Association threads.

Hmm...

I did say a week or so ago in trying to explain this to our resident sexton:
"It is just kind of a joke."

Ol' Aesop sure had a lock on human behavior, seemingly vulpine or not.

xoxoxoBruce 12-01-2019 02:29 PM

It's OK, even Babe Ruth struck out once in awhile. :haha:

Unless you've read this story, you ain't gonna get it...

Undertoad 01-23-2020 01:42 PM

Whatever the story says, that's a chip off a fancy polished granite counter top

(read the story) ok no it's not

Gravdigr 01-23-2020 02:08 PM

I've wondered if that had ever happened.

fargon 01-23-2020 03:32 PM

I wish that they had reported on the brains dimensions.

What is this?

Clue below:
(just a tease about an upcoming DIY project)

Attachment 70663

Carruthers 05-28-2020 02:38 PM

Half a dozen 'T' pieces, plumbing for the use of.

glatt 05-28-2020 03:51 PM

Purina Badger Chow delivery mechanism?

Diaphone Jim 05-28-2020 03:56 PM

A galvanized greeting.

BigV 05-28-2020 04:57 PM

A thousand internet points to be shared among you as you see fit.

It's plainly obvious what they are, 2 inch black iron pipe tees.

The DIY project is the design and construction of a handrail for the staircase in the house. I strained my brain trying to put this together in my head since no store had all the pieces for me to hold in my hands and mentally assemble. I have since penciled it all out on paper and... uh.... it'll probably work. I've worked with iron pipe before and it's satisfying to start at one end and add the pieces or sub assemblies together building onward toward the other end. In this case, I'm still a little uncertain how I'll screw together all the pieces since some of them route around in a big rectangle... kinda.

The scale of the pipe is really big, and these tees, being "female", feel even bigger around the threaded portion. They're the first to arrive, thank you Amazon. It was frustrating trying to source all these locally. I did not find a hardware store in my area that did pipe cutting and threading. The cutting I could do of course, that's just a vise and a hacksaw and handful of ibuprofen washed down with a gallon of sweat. I did find some places locally that had the pipe, but in 21 foot lengths. Anyhow, I'll take pictures and post my progress.

BigV 05-28-2020 04:58 PM

Ha, just noted that glatt thinks these are Carruthers' tees.

lol.

{seriously, because I don't know.}

gas shutoff valve handle so you don't need to keep a wrench nearby

Like in this picture

Clodfobble 05-28-2020 07:09 PM

I got something that looks pretty similar, but mine is made of black plastic and it's a specialized tool to unscrew the blade mechanism of a Vitamix from its housing.

I can say pretty definitively that if I had one of these, I would use it for TURNING WINGNUTS.

beauregaardhooligan 05-30-2020 07:39 AM

bigV, I went and looked at our gas valve and don't see how it could do that. I may not be looking at the right thing, though. Would the long recess be what grabs the valve?
Clodfobble, we do have a vitaMix, but I don't see how it could work on that either.

beauregaardhooligan 05-30-2020 07:41 AM

Flint, those look like drum keys to tighten/tune the heads.
...and I know lots of drummers that are wingnuts.

sexobon 05-30-2020 12:12 PM

Looks like a gas cap wrench for a gasoline tank. What the gas tank was attached to I don't know; but, it gave relatively open access and wasn't recessed like a car gas tank cap. Something similar is made for cars that reaches to greater depth:

Example of car gas tank cap wrench.

Diaphone Jim 05-30-2020 06:38 PM

Google images has dozens and dozens of drum keys.
I held on long enough to find these:

Congrats to Mr. Hooligan, though they are for tightening cymbals to their stands.

hmm.
Seems like the cymbal stands I've seen were threaded whereas drum keys are square holes.
I may have to decline.
