Those look pretty sharp Roosta. Must confess I've never heard of Truespace.

Here's a sight gag cartoon I did last year with CorelDraw 11 and Photoshop 6.0

Nice pic, well drawn. Any more?

Dr. Zaius 01-25-2005 07:47 PM

Hmmmm. My least favorite cultural export from France. :D

Being an aspiring artist.... I'm on my way there. I've been told i'm decent, but need to keep at it. About the same for anyone else, aye? Well here's my 2 cents worth of art for a character within a novel i'm writing.

What's the dangly thing? I keep thinking ocarina, but maybe I played too much Zelda...

Dunlavy 02-17-2005 02:01 PM

Indeed, it's a form of ocarina, but on one, (can't remember if I added it on the other) there's somewhat of a knob, it would control the size of the holes. Yeah, alot of zelda mate. I just like going back to old instruments. I needed one that could be carved and related to old fantasy fiction. Those are all of a character of mine known as Dunlavy Everbane.

LabRat 02-17-2005 03:48 PM

GEEEEEEEZZZZ, way to make me feel good about my drawings guys!

lumberjim 11-28-2006 11:44 PM

well, what's the deal? are they stylistically intended to be that way, or are you just holding your face too close to the paper? they look a bit like ancient roman engravings. all of the eyes appear to be the same. too wide, and very 2D.

I'm no good at art criticism, but they seem pretty static. It's a bit pot-kettle of me to say it, since I'm no good at drawing action myself, and primarily draw full-on or profile when I draw people. It may be easiest to see one's own flaws in other's work.

I'd say jasoncarocopyea2.jpg is the best, as they aren't full-on face shots, and the people have more natural attitudes. Did you work from a photo? That can help de-rigidify your drawings.

Keep at it. I've been drawing constantly as long as I can remember; it's great.

footfootfoot 11-29-2006 07:01 PM

Ibram, one thing my drawing teacher pointed out to us in drawing one was the difference between drawing from observation and drawing a symbol which represents 'eyes' for example.

If you really look at an eye, you'll see it doesn't look anything like a section of a lentil.

The reason I'm a photographer is that I haven't the patience to draw as well as I'd like. (nor the skill)

If you enjoy drawing then keep drawing. If you are content with your drawings then everything's fine. If you'd like your drawings to look "better"(in your mind) than they do, take a drawing one class. Stop drawing from photos and draw from observation.

My generic advice to anyone who wants to improve whatever skill they are pursuing is "never be satisfied with where you are." That doesn't mean don't appreciate your talents, just don't be satisfied.

Keep going.

lumberjim 11-29-2006 07:22 PM

the thing i have the hardest time with is that the lack of lines and the negative space have more to do with the appearance of a rendering than the actual lines. I tend to over-draw and over shade. i used to fancy myself an artist until 12th grade when i saw this kid in my class' work. holy shit. he drew a fairy out of one continuous line that came up from a curl of smoke. hardly any pencil on the paper, but there was the fairy, clear as day. elegant, simple, clean. I can't do that.

you have to see it before you can draw it. really see it.

Ibby 11-29-2006 07:35 PM

My drawings arent realllly s'posed to look real, any more than any cartoon. Theyre just 2D sketches of faces, and in a couple pictures bodies too. Theyre more about the style than the realism. Theyre about the hair, and the attitude, and the impression.

Here is some art (if you can call it that LOL) that I made in MS paint. My goal was to paint something in a minimalistic, simplistic style to appear as if a child with a pure soul were expressing themselves on the computer. (pure bs right there... I was actually was just messing around on paint) :D

I like it. The floating lightbulb lends a surrealistic air.

LOL yeah it was intended to be a hot air balloon, but most art is subjective, in the eye of the beholder, if you will. So it can definatly be a lightbulb too if you prefer! :)

I got one of those thinking it would make drawing/writing easy. It didn't. Hope you have better luck with it. I like it but I can't handwrite or sketch on it but that may be because I got a small one and there's an amplification effect. What size did you get?

Ibby 01-22-2007 07:40 AM

like, the smallest that there is.

do you think it unimportant to mention that most of these are tracings?

Ibby 01-31-2007 01:33 AM

not traced, just copied by sight. Well, okay, I traced the text on Thriller, and the beagle, can opener, telecaster, and Lei Feng, but most of those, the people, i google image searched then used that for reference, not for tracing, except on a couple of the eyes (which you yourself said i suck at)

lumberjim 01-31-2007 09:23 AM

the frog? bob geldoff, dylan? all of the ones in post #280.....?

still worth mention, i think.

Happy Monkey 01-18-2009 12:55 PM

An odd little non-tapecraft thing I made out of paperclips and the rings from seltzer bottle caps.

Was it you that mention things were a little slow at work? :haha:
That's very cool, it must have taken awhile to put together. What came first, the ants looking for something to do, or the ball looking for inhabitants?

wolf 01-18-2009 01:54 PM

I see London, I see France, I see Escher's Underpants!

That is very, very cool.

The bugs came first. I didn't make this one at work, though I did make a few bugs there...
