And here's my 33 week belly

TheMercenary 02-10-2009 10:10 PM

Awwwwwwwwwww...... You are viable. 3 more weeks would be better, 6 more better than that. Thinking of you and your hubby and family, best of luck.

Aliantha 02-10-2009 10:12 PM

Thanks. :) It's getting close now. I can't wait...and Dazza is possibly even more excited. This will be his firstborn, and a son at that.

TheMercenary 02-10-2009 10:13 PM

Dazz has mucho to be proud of. Love them like every day is their last. I can attest to that.

Aliantha 02-10-2009 10:17 PM

:)

:( still more important than girls, huh?

not a personal criticism, just saddened that there is still this "excitement" in society over a son that there isn't over a daughter as firstborn....

Aliantha 02-10-2009 10:51 PM

Well, he's a man, and he wanted to teach the child how to fish and thought I'd be upset about him getting a girl all dirty. (we actually both wanted to girl to be honest because we have the two boys already)

I told him he could teach a girl how to fish. My dad did. ;) My dad also taught me how to pluck poultry, slaughter livestock, shoot straight and drive a car, and speaking of cars, he taught me how to do a basic grease and oil change along with setting the timing and tappets and how to change the plugs and leads.

My Dad taught me a lot of stuff. I'm hoping Dazza will do the same for our child.

eta: That being said, I think it's pretty normal for men to want sons and women to want daughters broadly speaking. We bond with the child that's the same sex more than the opposite. Dr Phil (and a whole lot of other psychologists) said.

Why don't YOU teach him these things?

Aliantha 02-11-2009 06:46 PM

Well except for the fishing, I'll probably have to because Dazza doesn't do that sort of stuff. He's flat out hitting a nail into a wall straight. ;)

There's other stuff Dazza will teach him though. The list is endless.

Aliantha 02-17-2009 07:39 PM

6 weeks to go today.

I spent last night in hospital. Had a BP of 160/98 yesterday when I went for my checkup. I'd been having some symptoms of high bp over the last couple of weeks, so was expecting it to be higher, but not that much. My normal reading is about 120/65.

They've done blood tests and urine blah blah. They suspect mild pre-eclampsia and have prescribed lots of resting and no more stressing. Visits to the hospital twice weekly from now on and possible induction in a few weeks time.

Aliantha 02-19-2009 06:11 PM

I'm so tired of this pregnancy.

I don't think I could go through this again.

My hormones are giving me hell lately and I can't stop crying over stupid shit.

TheMercenary 02-19-2009 07:18 PM

Almost there Ali, you can do it. 6 weeks, pffffffttt, a cake walk for you.

Big Sarge 02-19-2009 08:17 PM

Chin up. It is almost over and then you can start planning another. LOL

If my BP keeps fluffing about it wont be 6 weeks anyway. As far as I'm concerned that's all for the good.

You're right though. I'll get there. I'm just feeling a bit fragile over the last few days. :(

Aliantha 02-19-2009 11:18 PM

Thanks Sarge. It's really nice of you to take the time to stop into my moaning thread considering all the troubles you have of your own atm. You're a gem.

I don't think there'll be anymore babies after this one. This particular condition is only likely to recur with any future pregnancies and in fact very well could be worse. We already have two wonderful boys. One more makes three, and that's a nice number anyway. :)

Aliantha 02-21-2009 06:20 PM

Along with these other issues, I've discovered a small lump under my arm. Here's to hoping it's just a blocked gland or something. I'll know more soon.

DucksNuts 02-21-2009 09:35 PM

Just think about it....sit on your arse for a few weeks, feet up, drinking raspberry tea leaf and getting the men in your life to wait on you......

Lap.It.Up!!

The lump is probably just hormones or, as you said, a blocked gland.

Chin Up luv!!

I expect a text message when youre in labour, so I can let your extended 'net family know whats going on.

Aliantha 02-21-2009 11:19 PM

I'll let you know when the big day arrives mate. :) I'm sure I already had you on my list anyway...where ever that's gone to now.

I'll see what the doc's got to say on Tues. Who knows, maybe I'll have a baby by the end of the week. At this stage as far as I'm concerned, that's the best outcome.

monster 02-23-2009 12:43 AM

At 35 weeks, try to hang on just a little longer if it isn't endangering your health. Your baby uses those last few weeks to gain a little fat and improve lung function -both important factors in fighting diseases, especially as you are just about to head into winter...

Aliantha 02-23-2009 01:08 AM

Yeah...another week or two would be good. We'll see what the ultrasound reveals tomorrow. If the placenta is damaged, he's not going to do too well anyway, but I'm sure it's fine. He's still moving around a fair bit. What is worrying me is the pain in my back which is moving further and further up, and seems to be deeper. Hopefully it's just normal pain and not liver inflamation. I'm keeping my fingers crossed, but whatever the professionals tell me I should do is what's likely to happen.

capnhowdy 02-23-2009 07:44 AM

I've been following this thread all along. Just not posting. I am so proud of you, Ali.
And this is SO cool. It's almost like we're ALL having a baby. Good luck.

Aliantha 02-23-2009 03:21 PM

Thanks capn. :) I don't know if you need to be proud of me though. I'm not the first woman in the world to get preggers. ;) I've just turned this thread into a kind of diary of the event mostly for my own reference, but also for those who're interested in seeing the journey. It's nice that lots of you have had some great input for me, or even just words of support during the times things seem never ending.

Today's the big day. I get to find out if everything's ok. :) Keep your fingers crossed (and your legs if you don't want to end up in my situation lol)

capnhowdy 02-23-2009 07:16 PM

No worries, Mate. I'm too goddam ugly to get anyone with child. 'Sides... I've done that and didn't win any awards.

Waiting for update......

Aliantha 02-23-2009 07:44 PM

Update!

Home now. BP still a bit high, but they're going to let it ride for a bit. Scan revealed the baby is 6 1/2lb and if he goes full term will be around 9lb. Not bad for a mother who has failed to put on any weight worth talking about.

All in all a good result so far.

The wait continues.

Aliantha 02-24-2009 08:29 PM

So today marks 35 weeks for us, which means only 5 weeks or so to go.

I nearly blanked out in the kitchen waiting for my toast to pop up this morning. I think I'll stop driving for the mean time. The risk just doesn't seem worth it.

Clodfobble 02-25-2009 11:41 AM

Ali, with your blood pressure at borderline levels, have they told you to stay on bedrest? I think not driving is a really good idea.

Aliantha 02-25-2009 03:16 PM

Oh yeah, they told me to put my feet up and keep quiet. I guess that means you lot will be seeing more of me than some people would like. ;)

I'm sure it'll all be fine though. Hopefully he'll be popping out in a couple of weeks all by himself anyway. It's just a waiting game now really.

Actually, the obstetrician said I should start my maternity leave now in order to reduce stress and I explained to him that I haven't had a job through this whole pregnancy, and no small children and a very supportive husband, so I'd be fine. He told me it was on the contrary and that if I already had a relaxed lifestyle with those readings I could find myself in trouble if I didn't take him seriously. Anyway, I was taking him seriously. I don't want them sticking me in the hospital to hang around till Max is born. I'd much rather be at home with my family, so I'll be good. :)

DanaC 02-25-2009 03:27 PM

you'd better....we'll be checking up

Clodfobble 02-25-2009 04:56 PM

When you are laying down, make sure to lay on your left side, it's easier on your heart.

Aliantha 03-01-2009 05:29 PM

I have 4 weeks and two days to go now. The baby's head has well and truly dropped, to the point where I can feel it grinding on my pelvis and making it almost impossible to walk at times. I have to pee a teaspoon every half an hour or so, so sleeping is becoming difficult to the point where sometimes my brain wont stop saying, "what's the point of going back to sleep? You're only going to have to wake up again shortly.", which is very annoying, because the thing I feel like doing mostly now is sleeping.

I hope this boy is ready to pop out in the next week or so. I can't wait to hold him.

I do lay on my left side as much as possible Clod, but I find if I stay in one position all night my hip gets really sore...regardless of how many pillows and stuff I try to use. I guess most of us pregnant women know all about that stuff though. Not long now though. I'm sick of eating chalk all night long.

capnhowdy 03-01-2009 05:51 PM

I've heard women say that excessive heartburn = Boy.

Aliantha 03-01-2009 05:53 PM

well I already know it's a boy...so I guess they must be right. ;)

There's also one that says that heartburn means your baby will have lots of hair.

Aliantha 03-02-2009 03:37 PM

I had to take Aden to the doc yesterday for a tetanus booster, so while i was there i asked him to do my BP. It was 130/90. Boy was I glad it wasn't at the hospital clinic or I'd have spent another night in hospital.

Too bad I have to go to the hospital clinic today though. It'll be lower this morning. It always seems to be in the mornings.

Aliantha 03-02-2009 08:55 PM

They were going to stick me in hospital again for 'observation', but I managed to talk my way out of it. I have to go back again in a couple of days for another CTG on the baby and BP test for me.

classicman 03-02-2009 10:43 PM

Be careful Ali - Geez a few days or weeks versus a lifetime - stop messin around girl!

Aliantha 03-02-2009 10:47 PM

I'm not messing around. I can tell if my BP is high. I don't need them them to blow my arm up to know.

I'll just keep my feet up and take it easy. The worst that can happen is that I'll go into labour, and from my perspective, that's the best thing.

If the baby stops moving around or I feel seriously ill, I'll get myself to the hospital. In the mean time, I'm sure there are people who need the bed more than I do.

I'm only pregnant. Not dying. ;)

classicman 03-02-2009 10:56 PM

Oh you're pregnant?!?!?!?! When did THAT happen?

Aliantha 03-02-2009 11:00 PM

Aliantha 03-08-2009 04:41 PM

Had a visit to the hospital again on Friday and totally lost it when they made me go through the whole process of blood tests, urine tests, CTG and a list of questions a mile long. They suggested I could see a counsellor which I declined.

Now I have to go again today and probably go through the same process.

3 weeks and a couple of days to go. I hope it's not too much longer. I'm turning into a basket case. :(

classicman 03-08-2009 08:00 PM

hang tight Ali - almost there......

Aliantha 03-09-2009 01:31 AM

Thanks classic. The good news is, they've decided to induce me next Tuesday which also happens to be St Patricks day, and my Dad's birthday. Sounds like a good plan to me anyway.

That'll be Monday for you lot in the US.

Pico and ME 03-09-2009 02:00 AM

A Pisces baby!

DucksNuts 03-09-2009 04:42 AM

Ohhh, nearly there Ali.

I know your sensible, but Preeclampsia is often caught too late, be super careful with your BP!!

classicman 03-09-2009 08:06 AM

Woo Hoo! Thats awesome.

TheMercenary 03-09-2009 08:18 AM

Yea! Congrats! :D Let us know when it happens! I am happy for you and Daz

kerosene 03-09-2009 10:09 AM

I am glad to hear you will be relieved, soon! Hang in there, Ali.

Sundae 03-09-2009 10:12 AM

I for one can't wait to see a photo of Max out in the open (as it were).
And if it seems like a long pregnancy to me....

Aliantha 03-09-2009 04:30 PM

Thanks guys. We've both been on the edge for a couple of weeks now, so the excitement of if all hasn't quite set in for us. More just a sense of relief that we now have an end date.

I'm sure we'll both feel differently in a few days though. :)

Oh and yes, it does seem to have drawn out SG. In some ways it seems to fast, but I've basically been pregnant the whole time we've been in our new house. I'll be glad to give my poor garden some attention after Max is here actually. It's looking a bit neglected.

Aliantha 03-12-2009 06:43 PM

Only 4 more sleeps and I'll get to hold our baby for the first time. I'm very excited about the prospect now and really just can't wait for Tuesday...if I make it that far. I've planned out a few things to do over the weekend to take up the time, and keeping busy will only help get my body ready for delivery anyway. We're going to give the house a good clean up so that no one has to worry too much about housework for a couple of weeks or so. We've also got to make one final visit to the hospital on the weekend for a BP check and CTG just to make sure all is well. Hopefully Dazza will get to do the races again on Sat arvo. Last weekend he pulled up with over $1k profit. So that was a bonus. He usually finishes up in the black, but normally only a few hundred. Then I'll watch funniest home videos saturday night. Maybe the laughing will help! Monday I'm going to rest as much as possible and prepare for the 5.30am start on Tuesday. Hopefully by lunchtime I'll have a baby.

classicman 03-12-2009 09:22 PM

Wow - I can't believe the time is upon you (us lol) To me is seems to have flown by. I know your perspective, especially now, is quite different. Still its all very exciting!

Congratulations on the miraculous achievement of creating an entire human being.
It's amazing how they come out with their full personality intact. Just much smaller.

Well, half of it happened in my sleep, so I can't take credit for all of it. :D Actually, over the last while I've probably spent more than half my time asleep.

Anyway, it is amazing to think about until you get to the bit where you remember that you're not the first person to ever have a baby. lol

Yep, it's exciting that's for sure. I was writing up my birth plan before and some of the things I put on it seemed weird even to me, such as, "If I happen to poo when I'm pushing and don't notice, please don't tell me about it."
