Dr. Phil's specialty is telling people obvious things...

I will challenge anyone who makes racist statements. Maybe you think the KKK is just fine and dandy, but I will get in the face of anyone who stereotypes others based on nationality, skin color, religion, etc. (Which is exactly what you and Beestie both did). I find it extremely offensive, and I will call you on it every time. Don't like it? Too bad.

You have an interesting way of embellishing and misquoting others. Please quote exactly where I "demanded" anything of you.

So, it's OK to slam the French but not the British? Don't you think that perhaps there might be someone out there in cyberspace who is French and is offended by your comments? (just as you were offended by Brianna's comments). You and Beestie are being just as "disrespectful" as she is.

That's funny. So now you're "demanding" that Brianna shouldn't post? Isn't that exactly what you criticized ME for saying? Silly.

Dr. Phil's specialty is taking complex situations and boxing them up into little greeting card sayings that don't even begin to address the issue much less offer any insight into it.

Thanks for trying to help but [*holding nose*] "...that dog won't hunt." ;)

Undertoad 11-08-2004 09:25 AM

Nitpick: it's not really racism if they are the same race as you.

That's what I said. :)
Telling people obvious things doesn't help them, because they already know it.

I wasn't offended. I disliked it. And if someone French wants to step up and say something, obviously they can.

Did I tell Brianna not to post? I think I said, "if she didn't have anything to say, she shouldn't have posted. I never said "Don't post." Like you told me.

Keep trying, though. I'm having fun!!!

Congratulations. I'm glad you find slamming other cultures, sleazily quoting people out of context and arguing ad nauseum to be enjoyable. I'm personally bored with it, and I'm sure everyone else reading this thread is, too. Hey, it's lunch time. I think I'll go have a nice glass of French wine in your honor.

Take anyone to task? No. Disagree with? Discuss? Absolutely. "Taking people to task" means (to me) to berate, belittle, "yell" at, etc. So no, we shouldn't take anyone to task for their opinions.

There are ways to express your differing opinions other than calling people names, insulting them, demand they stop posting, stop reading posts, ad nauseum.

I've heard a lot of good about the French and a lot of bad about the French. I imagine that they're not much different than us--arrogant and asinine. The ones I've met were rather nice. Generalizing and stereotyping only perpetuates problems among various groups.
I generally agree. :)

No, I'm having fun pushing your buttons. And I haven't slammed other cultures, I stated I dislike the French. I enjoy most other cultures. :) And I do enjoy arguing. But really, this wasn't a very good one. And I didn't take things out of context. You asked me to quote where you demanded things, and I did. *shrug* I'm not sure where "sleazily" is an appropriate adjective, but then, since you drink French wine, I suppose I shouldn't be surprised.

It's been a pleasure. :)

Et tu Brutus?

From another site:

"I have never, ever, heard a Canadian say anything of the sort.
I've heard nothing but praise and admiration for the U.S. Maybe I used to stretch the truth a little before I immigrated, but thanks to the absolute honesty I was taught before I swore the Oath of Allegiance, I am now a real straight arrow.
May God strike me dead if this is not tge tr-----AAAAAUuuuugh!---------"

No, you didn't exactly "quote" me, you took small fragments of sentences and pasted them together, leaving out the first part of the thought in every case. That, in my opinion, qualifies as sleazy. But hey, desperate people tend to do desperate things.

And I'm not surprised you wouldn't drink French wine--Boone's Farm and Thunderbird seem to be more your style.

OnyxCougar 11-08-2004 12:43 PM

Actually, I don't drink at all. Nice try, though.

Humor isn't your stong point, sweetheart. You've proven that to us several times before.

Hey, there's another thread that seems to be slamming the French--why don't you and your friend OnyxCougar go contribute some of your genius to that? We're all waiting to be informed and inspired by you both.

Won't eat meat, works for PETA, loves the French ...

I'm just not sure why she keeps coming back ...
