Right, but the form you have to send in for the duplicate license has to be notarized unless you go to PennDOT in person.

UT, let me see if PennDOT gives me any shit tomorrow. I may still need the services of Mrs. Toad.

Ep, Mrs. Toad sorta knows me already...I'm assuming as "that guy with the purple car that Tony knows."

[more rant]I think I'm more irritated now about the fact that Wachovia/FU won't notarize anything involving automobiles. What the fuck is that about? Although, I might have taken it better if the notary at the branch didn't come across as such a cunt.[/more rant]

I'm a notary, and I'll pretty much notarize anything for anyone I know at all...I think it is an archaic and nearly pointless thing overall, but there you have it. At least I get to wear these great big flowing robes, and my pointy hat with the stars and moons all over it.

Oh...wait. That's because I'm a Pagan, isn't it?

My photo comment was not at all serious, Syc...I thought it might have been kind of fun showing Mrs. UT your Che Guevarra pic and saying "Si, senora, eet ees mi, I promizz."

The notary doesn't have to know you. They just have to swear and affirm that you showed proof of who you are and it was actually you that signed that document. Oh wait, you can't prove who you are. Can you go to a photo license center or do you have to go somewhere else?

elSicomoro 04-28-2003 04:54 PM

Right. They're just affirming the signature, not the person (as the FSR at my bank used to say).

It feels weird being "faceless" at the moment. I have nothing to prove who I am, other than some fingerprints back home and a signature card on file with my bank. I know I'm Terry Blastenbrei, others know that that's who I am, but I can't really prove it. I'll feel much better when that DL is in my hand tomorrow.

What is a notary?

Undertoad 04-28-2003 05:20 PM

In this state, notaries recognize that you've officially signed something, with their own official seal and signature. Sort of a little more stringent than just a signature, an official witness that you put hand to document.

juju 04-28-2003 05:40 PM

Interesting.

It might pay you to get a passport as a backup.

Not a bad idea, Bruce...what do those run these days? $60?

xoxoxoBruce 04-29-2003 08:47 PM

DAMIFINO. The last one I got was only about $35 plus pictures if I remember right. But, that was long ago and far away. And yes, it was a pain in the ass. I went to the gumint building in Philly. Now, I believe you can get them at the county courthouse.

elSicomoro 04-29-2003 09:16 PM

Last I remember, they were $55 in the mid-90s. It wouldn't be bad to have, just in case I lose my mind and gobble up one of those cheapy fares on British Airways from PHL to London.

New drivers license--$11

Registration for my car--$120

Safety and emissions inspections, plus a new set of rear brakes installed--$221

Having your own car for the first time in 3 1/2 years--Priceless. :)

Congrats, Syc...now you can spread the Gospels of Sycamore far and wide!

What is your first item of automotive personalization going to be?
