Spencer feeds him in the morning (sometimes he starts bugging him at 11pm for his am feeding). He eats 6-7 3oz packs a day and has gained about 1.5lbs since his last visit - so he's almost 3.5 lbs. The vet couldn't find a thing wrong.
My diagnosis: He's just not the sharpest knife in the drawer. I think he forgets where the litterbox is. And that he just ate. Little piker... |
I know you said dry food, but did you already mention what kind/brand of food he's eating, jinx? I missed it.

The dry is this

They make green peas and duck sound so delicious!

Jinx - you can do much better than Whiskas.
Given your horror of microwave food and your own healthy lifestyle, you are buying cat junk food. You want to go for a wet food that has as little as possible in carbohydrates. Cats eat a miniscule amount of these in the wild. Basically what is in the stomach of the birds and rodents they consume. Tiny, tiny amount. Any food that includes grain, semolina, rice etc is not a natural diet for your cat. I wholeheartedly recommend Applaws. When I moved back home I had a whole case of it for the Diz cat. Given my drop in income, Mum commented frequently on the disparity between what I bought myself and what I bought the boy. His dinner looked like something that you'd see on top of a blini. I'm not being holier than thou - my boy is what is technically called fat-fatty-fat-fat at present. I need to sort out how many beebles he should have access to a day, along with his raw meat & bones diet. Either one should be sufficient, which is why he is putting on weight. But seriously - start checking the labels. If you are happy with the ingredients it's none of my business; many, many cats live to a ripe old age on that diet. But consider cutting biologically and evolutionary unnecessary carbs if you can. |
Thanks SG, spike has solid poops with that specific whiskas which wasn't the case with regular salmon, mackeral, or sardines, or other wet cat foods. At less than 2lbs, I didn't want to fool around with diarrhea.

Last time I raise it, I promise.
But do have a look at the (sometimes conflicting) cat nutritional requirements. The majority of brand name cat food has very high levels of carbs. I know you (in a very minor way I admit) You don't want to feed your cats ingredients just because "that's what we've always done" Just check out what additives there are. What carbs there are. What SUGARS there are. And read some anti-processed food websites. I know you'd do it for your kids (and you and your cats are currently skinny in a beautiful way ;)) Oh, and ... it being too late for LJ... I mean... a photo stripped to the waist and I would eat my words... and it would sound like mmmmmm. |
That isn't what I've always done. But thanks for pointing out that making any effort at all makes me a hypocrit for not achieving perfection.

I hope the med for the possible urinary problems help jinx.
I think corn in food is terrible too. My cats coats are so susceptible to it. I also don't think the urinary care foods are so great considering the ingredients. It looks like what you are feeding him is fine. The least amount of ingredients the better from what I have read trying to find a urinary food for my mom's poodle. not that yer asking lol @ your husband :) he be a funny |
Argh. I do not think you are hypocritical at all.
My very sincere apologies if anything I posted suggested that. I know you are very careful regarding the food your family eat. You are far more careful than I am. I am solely responsible for my diet and I manage it badly. I did not mean to suggest you manage the diet of your cats badly. I pay more attention to Diz's diet than I do to mine and yet I have still managed to let him get overweight. Not to the untrained eye, but according to Singa standards. And just because he is so damn cute. I meant to offer advice as a cat owner and include my issues about processed food - NOT launch an attack. I'll post a pic of fat-cat-Diz sometime soon and you can verbally smack me up for my bad cat management skill with no rebuttal. |

I didn't view it as a harsh statement. More like an ..oh..well..fuck.
She feels bad enough already I suppose. |
ok. Well I guess it just sounded that way in my head.
Carry on. |
My kitty sits ON my keyboard when I'm at the puter. Is annoying - havbing to type over her furry body. argh.
She only wants to cuddle and bond with me when I'm sitting here trying to type.... whats your kitty up to? |
My kitty is telling you to stop procrastinating.
