It's so great that you can watch pretty much any event on NBC.com! I highly encourage anyone who's a little bit interested to check out the event of your choice. NBC---it might be a money whore but it's allowing almost everything to be viewed.

Even though I know it is grossly politically incorrect to say so, I think that these Olympics have been stupendous, from venues, to coverage, and featuring unparalleled athleticism and skill. Stunning, they have been.

Aliantha 08-20-2008 06:43 PM

Why would it be wrong to say that Els?

Elspode 08-20-2008 10:46 PM

Because its China, so its inherently wrong...or so left wing thinking goes.

Walsh and May-Treanor, my Amazon volleyball babes, win their second Olympic gold in a row.

They are *incredible*.

Aliantha 08-20-2008 11:02 PM

It's interesting that you'd say it's the left wing thinking that has a problem with China. I would have thought it was the right.

Aside from that, I don't think there's anything wrong with giving credit where it's due. Regardless of your political ideals. In fact, in spite of them even.

Clodfobble 08-20-2008 11:21 PM

Nah, the right likes buying things for $3 at Wal-Mart. The left cares about things like other countries' human rights abuses.

Elspode 08-20-2008 11:51 PM

Clod is right. The Right only cares about human rights abuses when no one is making a buck on them.

Aliantha 08-21-2008 03:05 AM

Oh yeah right...I mean left...I mean...well, you know what I mean. For what it's worth, and I know I've been saying this all over the place, but I think it's ok to say China has done a good job of these Olympics. All other issues aside, they have done a great job. It's true that some aspects of Chinese life and politics aren't as most of us westerners would like, but for a country which has undergone so much political upheaval over the last 30 years, I think it's impressive that the country has pulled together to make it happen, and so smoothly and safely.

Ahem. I'd like to mention a certain Australian saying we only win at sitting down sports and are a nation of soap-dodgers...?

We only send the grubby males over there. The clean ones are over here having sex with good English girls. Except me.

I have to say, I think it was in poor form for the Australian representative to say such a thing. That being said, I'm sure the population of England and GB at large is happy to see themselves in front of us in the medal tally (for the first time in ages I might add ;) ). Of course, everyone must realize what an achievement it is for a country with a population as small as ours to do so well in these competitions. It's a shame our mens swimmers didn't put in a better showing this time round. Lucky the girls did well.

We should get a gold in BMX today though. lol That's one for the record books I guess.

I happened to see that game. As well as having four hot babes jumping about in tiny bikinis in a rainshower, it was a really good game worthy of deciding a gold medal.

Is your boy actually over there, Cyclefrance, or doing the website from home?

Cyclefrance 08-22-2008 11:14 AM

Unfortunately he lives just around the corner from us - mainly doing everything from home (apart from a holiday in Hawaii in July!) - and his guitar-playing pal, who also leaves nearby, has a recording studio in what was the second bedroom of his home (suitably soundproofed, thank god! - can be seen in Checkout Lady)
