Oh you should study up on Mr. Henry Rollins.

One intriguing individual.

Check out his band, The Rollins Band. On YouTube, prolly.

The guy is absolutely full of surprises.

DanaC 07-17-2012 12:48 PM

I think I've seen him before. I think he may have been on Jools Holland's show. And somewhere else. But I don't know where... in my minds eye I can see him doing one of those to camera pieces that you get in shows about the greatest ten musicians, or remembering the 80s or something.

Gravdigr 07-17-2012 05:38 PM

Oh, snap!

I don't agree 100%, maybe 85%, but, here, Mr. Rollins hits some nails on the head, especially regarding the interweb and The Media.

I don't think this is recommended. I doubt the side of the toaster is built to take the heat.

Gravdigr 07-21-2012 04:38 PM

I wondered about that.

Major air. Awesome hangtime!

Tough camera...

Gravdigr 08-06-2012 02:45 PM

Oh, deary deer...

BigV 08-06-2012 10:28 PM

I like how the kart kamera automatically reorients itself for "up" before the kart is even touched.

oh, and ouch.

BigV 08-06-2012 10:31 PM

The deer's on the roof, isn't it?

bigw00dy 08-15-2012 08:07 PM

The real hahas start at the 58 second mark

Pico and ME 08-20-2012 06:51 PM

The best part of this video is in the first 9 seconds.

WHAT A WIPEOUT!!! And he kept on going.

Undertoad 08-21-2012 12:25 PM

I have been forwarding that along since it showed up, because Bean my old Boston Terrier did that exact same thing. There was always a large plastic playground ball in the house, that same size, and merely saying "ball" or moving towards the closet where it was would drive him into immediate frenzy.

zippyt 08-21-2012 04:40 PM

Doggy Shot PUT !!!!!
Daym he got some AIR !!!

Oh my sides hurt !!!!!!

Thanks i needed that !!!

BigV 08-23-2012 10:25 AM

Some impressive clips here, including a number of casual, I-meant-to-do-that holes in one disc golf shots.

Hook up a speaker to your squid, blast Cypress Hill, and watch his chromatophores spasm, that's what ya do.

Awesomeness.

Lamplighter 08-29-2012 07:43 PM

Really intriguing - I haven't ever heard of such behavior.

xoxoxoBruce 08-30-2012 12:38 AM

There are other birds that do that too, but it doesn't seem to be endemic because not all birds of those types do it. There must have been a Leonardo Da Birdy that dreamed it up, maybe from watching Ron Popeil's Pocket Fisherman commercials, then spread the wealth. I suppose a Crow could learn from watching a Heron, and vice versa.

Griff 08-30-2012 05:47 AM

We saw a lot of those green herons in Costa Rica. I guess baiting is quite common for them. Pretty smart.

Gravdigr 08-30-2012 07:34 AM

I remember seeing the ravens in, I think it was England, dropping some sort of really hard nut on the street in the crosswalks, so the cars ran over and cracked the nuts for the birds. The birds then scooped up the busted nut.

That was several years ago on 'Nature' with George Page, I think.

Gravdigr 09-06-2012 04:41 PM

This is awesome.

Keep your eye on Baldilocks.

Pico and ME 09-06-2012 04:58 PM

I saw that yesterday. I think the girl standing between the chairs is going to suffer back problems for the rest of her life.

I was wondering why this was even filmed in the first place.

Gravdigr 09-07-2012 01:45 PM

I saw the clip on LakeTV. It was a LakeTV crew filming. I think they were shooting stock footage/b-reel. Or background for a story.

Something to that effect.

There are loads of ravens...or crows...not sure which, possibly both...around here. They're startlingly large close up. Carrot's fascinated by them. So was Pilau. Though Pilau used tochase them, whilst Carrot is learning to just sit and watch them.

According to wiki:

Quote:

Recent research has found some crow species capable not only of tool use but of tool construction as well.[2] Crows are now considered to be among the world's most intelligent animals.[3] The Jackdaw and the European Magpie have been found to have a nidopallium approximately the same relative size as the functionally equivalent neocortex in chimpanzees and humans, and significantly larger than is found in the gibbon.[4]

Gravdigr 09-07-2012 02:19 PM

Aren't crows and ravens very close to the same bird?

Crows and ravens are very closely related and they look very much alike to the untrained observer. Some say they're the same bird, just different in size along a continuum with ravens being larger and crows being smaller. Both are completely black, feathers, beak, feet, eyes, everything. There are some subtle physical distinctions though. Ravens have a kind of messy ruff of feathers around their throat. The ravens being larger also have larger wings with fifteen pinion feathers while the crows' smaller wings only have fourteen. These are practically invisible on the all black birds.

As far as I'm concerned, the difference is a matter of a pinion.

Gravdigr 09-08-2012 03:02 PM

I see what you did there.

DanaC 09-08-2012 04:23 PM

*stares hard at Big V*

Well played, sir, well played.

I think the ones I see mostly around here must be ravens then because they're bloody massive. And I'm pretty sure I've seen that messy ruff at their throats too.

plthijinx 10-25-2012 09:08 PM

one of the guys in my office has one of these cars....freakin' bad ass ride!

anyway, they just opened up a new toll road between Austin and Seguin with the highest speed limit in the nation. they ran a test. this is way cool!

the article is here

xoxoxoBruce 10-26-2012 03:03 PM

A test? For 85mph? Shit, that's barely cruising.

BigV 10-26-2012 03:32 PM

It looks like he said bye bye to 85 at about five seconds.

xoxoxoBruce 10-27-2012 10:32 PM

The first night that highway was open they had four crashes... with feral hogs.

Oh, and a Hennessey GT hit 263.3 in the Texas Mile.

Clodfobble 10-28-2012 08:46 AM

I drive on the Hwy 130 toll road at least once or twice a week. The new section is at the south end, but the north end it's been extending from has been open for years, and the speed increase applies to the whole thing. The reason they made the speed limit so high (besides the fact that it's Texas and we gotta whip out our dicks whenever we can) is because no one is driving on it. It was built so 18-wheeler traffic could skirt around Austin and not contribute to the very bad congestion problems on I-35, but the truckers said, "A toll? Fuck you very much," and they don't use it at all. So the DoT is dangling the carrot that you could save even more time now, if you take the tollway.

Except the joke is on them, because everyone is already going that fast on the road anyway. Most of it is elevated, and you can see for miles into the distance, so speed traps are impossible.
