Bad Religiion. Has anyone heard of them? They are an underground punk rock band (please make my day and say you have, and that you love their music)?

lookout123 05-12-2005 12:34 AM

Bad Religion hasn't been underground in a verrrrrrry long time. but they've got some decent tunes.

if you are looking for old underground punk you might like the Subhumans, GBH, The Exploited, and if you like it a little more melodic the original Descendents was always fun. of course, don't forget about he original Misfits, Samhain, etc.

You're correct, but to most people, underground explains why they're never heard of a band. It was nice to have someone respond about a favorite band. Thanks! :D

elSicomoro 05-16-2005 03:23 AM

I haven't listened to Bad Religion in a while, but I own a couple of their CDs from the 90s, and like them.

elSicomoro 05-31-2005 09:41 PM

It's a great CD. SOAD is one of the few "big" bands out there that really mixes up their music and sounds good, IMO. Plus, they still make their record label (Sony BMG) happy.

Sun_Sparkz 05-31-2005 09:47 PM

Pfft..

: Sun_Sparkz dances off into a field of pansies..."catch my disease.." :

mrnoodle 06-01-2005 09:45 AM

Sun_Sparkz. tsk tsk.

Goths do not headbang. Headbangers do not write bad poetry. The only overlap between the two groups is black nail polish. Otherwise they detest each other.

And SOAD is pretty good for what they do. The music itself is cool, but the vocalist bugs me. Too Primusy or something.

I've been listening to MC Paul Barman again. He's white, jewish, and ivy leaguer, and has mad skillz.
check it:
My close pals, aunts, uncles, leaders, Nations, and towns
Hamlets and neighboring islands, everyone
Landlords, bosses, and relatives, moms and newborns
Somehow when I act thirteen, I'm a virgin girl's tractor beam
This one was dressed to kill from her head to my testicle
She was from west of Phil-ly and spoke well of it
She said, "Just for the hell of it let's not be celibate."
I got all higgledy piggledy, it's a big relief
When I take off my fig uh leaf
She said that, "Let's get at this" but her cat and an unpotted cactus
Sat on her mattress
that sure made it saturated with sharp thorns and cat piss
I put on a hiphop beat while she whipped off the topsheet
She said, "Come to bed I like my undergrads underfed
They amaze how they stay up days on mayonnaise and Wonderbread."
I dove in her cervix a lot like Sir Mixalot
This interlude is for the women I've interviewed about the clitoris
and how to make it less hit-or-miss
Should we be gentle?, Is it all mental?
I won't use a dental dam 'cause it discurges
my urges to submerge in her jizz
She said, "My goodness you should juss use clues that's nonverbal
You're too vigorous if my clitoris, for example, turns purple"
It was time to copulate but we didn't want to populate
So my bold groin reached for my gold coin proooophylactic
I unwrapped it, you can't know how I felt
It wasn't a gold coin condom, it was chocolate Chanukah gelt
The white part crumbled on her tummy and the rest began to melt
Foiled again.....

I like System of a Down. Dakota recently got me into Type O Negative. I like that Christian Woman song. I dunno why, but it just feels so naughty and dark.

Lately I have been listening to B.W. Stevenson. He only had a couple of popular songs in the 70s...and they were kind of countryish. The rest of the CD is really good, too. I think it is the best of BW Stevenson.

Badar Ali Khan - Lost in Qawwali II

Bought as part of a going out of business sale of a new age store.

Creedence Clearwater Revival
Chicago
Steppenwolf. I love me some bass.

mrnoodle 06-06-2005 09:02 AM

Porcupine Tree -- Deadwing.

It's new and progressive and very tasty. Like if Genesis hadn't started singing top 40 love songs.

Gorillaz - Demon Days

Southerplayalisticcadillacmusic is what did it for me. i wasn't even listening to hiphop at the time and it made me break out all the old PE, etc. i binged for about 5 years on hiphop. the new stuff is just shite though.

elSicomoro 06-07-2005 01:59 AM

I don't think that all of today's hip-hop is crap. Among my current favorites:

--Ozomatli
--Black Eyed Peas
--Dilated Peoples
--Common
--OutKast
--Mos Def
--Talib Kweli
--The Roots

lookout123 06-07-2005 08:27 AM

i guess i should rephrase - the new artists that are coming out are shite. those are all pretty old horses by now.

elSicomoro 06-07-2005 08:37 AM

That I'll give you...then again, I haven't been listening to much new music lately, particularly hip-hop.

Hmmm.

Best way to disarm one who attempts to fence is to take away his best weapon ...

See, I revealed one of those deep dark secrets that probably should have stayed dark and deep.

I went to the Lilith Faire.

Mostly voluntarily.

Queen of the Ryche 06-07-2005 02:12 PM

So sorry - bad me. No bias/slander intended. Just thought it was a widely known assumption - Lillith Faire = feminism = implied lesbianism - PLEASE forgive me for my stereotypical remark. I was at one of those points in my day where the poison darts fly out involuntarily.

System of A Down's Mesmerize.
This is just as good as Toxicity, and B.Y.O.B has meaningful lyrics, if you bother to look them up.
They scream about "Why don't presidents fight the war? why do we always send the poor?!" They mention oil, and sing that we are being "fed lies from the tablecloth". At that point, the song becomes poppy and happy and they sing "la la la, everybody's going to the party to have a real good time, dancing in the desert, blowing up the sunshine..la la la la la la la la la la."
I love their use of sarcasm, the fact that they sing about us being lied to and brainwashed, and "Cigaro" seems to be written from Bush's point of view:
"My cock is much bigger than yours" ..."We're the propagators of all genocide
Burning through the world's resources
Then we turn and hide "
The lyrics are meaningful and the music ROCKS!

Don't steal it- Buy it!!

elSicomoro 06-10-2005 03:14 PM

I've been listening to Stevie Wonder mostly the past few days. The man is a genius.

Elspode 06-10-2005 03:59 PM

I'm *trying* to listen to Bob Dylan's "Blood on the Tracks", but my cheapass RCA unencumbered-by-any-features-mp3-player's output jack is toast.

I haven't been able to figure out a way to approach the Mrs. about needing something a little better...or at least actually functional.

elSicomoro 06-10-2005 04:03 PM

Oh, that's easy! Just tell Mrs. Ep that the gods have told you to buy an iPod...who are you to argue with them?

Unfortunately, Mrs. Ep is on her own wavelength with the Gods, and I'm afraid there are few divine arguments or recommendations that I could slide past her without her doing a bit of checking up on her own...

Deströyer 666 - Cold Steel... for an Iron Age \mmmm/

lookout123 06-10-2005 11:31 PM

mmm, cd's listened to at least partially today, include:

Losa
The Red Chord
Nodes of Ranvier
Warlord
Uphold
Snapcase
Misfits - Walk among us
Chasm
Boy Sets Fire
Coalesce
The Esoteric

wolf 06-11-2005 01:18 AM

I have not heard of a single one of those bands.

Els, what you need to do is do some major creative visualization work. The gods are funny about giving us those pesky lottery numbers, but every now and then a treat falls our way.

lookout123 06-11-2005 03:24 PM

well, they are all metal or punk from one brand or another. but some highlights:

Coalesce, Uphold, and to a lesser extent Losa really play with alternate time signatures until your brain hurts.

actually so do The Esoteric, Warlord, and the Red Chord.

The Misfits were glenn danzigs baby when he was a teen and early twenty something in Lodi, NJ. his best band by far.

Dug out some old Red Rocker today.
He was damn good in his day. Van Halen made a major tho when they replaced DLR.
IMO Sammy was way better w/out Eddie & them.
I don't like Van Hagar.
Loved Van Halen.

BigV 06-16-2005 08:54 PM

Saw them in their bar, Cabo Wabo in Cabo San Lucas waaaay back when. Drinking, not playin, briefly.

capnhowdy 06-16-2005 09:26 PM

not to veer from the thread, but Cabo Wabo is THE ULTIMATE 'keela...........
I've got a bottle on layaway.
