Anyone have Greg Ham from Men At Work?

http://music.msn.com/music/article.aspx?news=722176

No, I know no one did but I can't find the thread where you announce dead people without being particularly bummed about it. I searched thread titles for 'celebrity' and 'celebrities' so it must not be an intuitive title.

wolf 04-19-2012 12:05 PM

Oh, shit. I'm bummed. I love Men at Work.

Have you tried 'died', or, 'dead'?

ETA: Or 'person'?

Gravdigr 04-19-2012 12:33 PM

Everybody "Safety Dance"!!

ETA: Derp.

Wrong 80s band. Or did that guy die too?

Who Can it Be Now?

infinite monkey 04-19-2012 01:18 PM

That was Men Without Hats, wasn't it?

edit: googled. Yep.

Gravdigr 04-19-2012 01:38 PM

Well, they were men.

Close enough.

:lol2:

infinite monkey 04-19-2012 01:40 PM

At least you didn't call them Boys II Men!

infinite monkey 04-19-2012 03:28 PM

Musicians are dropping like hotcakes.

Did anyone have Levon Helm from The Band?

monster 04-19-2012 08:15 PM

Which band?

:p:

monster 04-19-2012 08:17 PM

Another of my favorites, gone. Someone must have showed him the movie trailer.

Hopefully it wasn't the part where he has his cameo.

wolf 04-21-2012 10:26 AM

He has a cameo? Oh by all that is good and true in the world, that just shouldn't happen.

And now I may actually have to see that piece of loose, watery crap.

The Big Finish site had a little news piece on Frid's death. He revoiced the role of Barnabas in one of their DS audio plays in 2010:

Quote:

It is with sadness that we report the passing of Jonathan Frid, who died peacefully last week at the age of 87. As vampire Barnabas Collins, he created a truly enduring character and cemented Dark Shadows' place as a pop culture phenomenon. Big Finish was lucky enough to work with Jonathan on the 2010 audio drama The Night Whispers, which featured his one and only return to the role that made him famous.

Stuart Manning, who wrote and produced the CD, remembers: "Working with Jonathan was an unforgettable experience. Even in his eighties he was still a force to be reckoned with, but with a twinkle too. And he still had tremendous fondness for old Barnabas. Recording the play was a daunting prospect for him, having been retired for a long period, but he was utterly committed to doing the character and our script justice. Simply, it was an honour to play a part in letting him become Barnabas one last time."

Our condolences go out to Jonathan's friends and family.

Abdel Basset Ali Megrahi, a Libyan intelligence officer who was the only person ever convicted in the 1988 Lockerbie bombing, died Sunday. He was 60.

Quote:

When the one-year anniversary of his release passed, some who visited him said Megrah bitterly mused that the world was rooting for him to die.
Yes, but not for the reason he thought...

111-60=51 points for FFF bringing his score up to 104.26

infinite monkey 05-20-2012 10:05 AM

infinite monkey 05-20-2012 10:08 AM

monster 05-20-2012 10:15 AM

Well I ran the scores by our Humor und Morality Panel (HuMP) and they felt that it was offensive and not amusing for you to have points. So sorry.

Undertoad 05-20-2012 11:19 AM

This was victory but not justice. A major world terrorist dies a free man in his country of origin. The dictator he was played as a pawn for was killed in revolution before "about to die" Megrahi's final breath. It's merely the last slap in the face to the dead of Lockerbie and their living families and friends.

Rhianne 05-20-2012 01:37 PM

I know no-one here, the country in which the crime was committed, who believes the man was actually guilty. Personaly I have no idea either way but the evidence used to convict him was frankly ridiculous.

More importantly, thanks for the points!

DanaC 05-20-2012 02:33 PM

Yeah. The evidence was shoddy, and mishandled.

Greedo? Han shot first!

And since you persist in denying points for Paterno, then I feel like I should be allowed to pick a new tenth person. Since it is almost June, I would agree to prorating any points for the tenth person at 50% of face value.

Is that fair?

monster 05-25-2012 08:18 PM

you have points for paterno.

He can get tablets for that these days, you know

footfootfoot 06-21-2012 06:29 PM

I was thinking since I didn't get points for whosiwhatsis Paterno, I'll add Mubarik to my list. His name sounds a bit like the other guy who didn't die, but was also on my list, Norah Jones' dad, Shankar guy.

So, I'll add Mubarak for my 10th spot.

Can someone post the scores on the doors?

BigV 06-21-2012 07:26 PM

scores?

aren't you keeping score over in the mental nuts thread? and now you want someone else to keep score for you???

Turns out I actually did have Geoffrey Hughes this year, I just got my list in during 2011.

So I claim:
Geoffrey Hughes - 43
Clive Dunn - 19
Bill Tarmey - 41

103

Griff 11-24-2012 08:48 AM

Hector Camacho was just taken off life support in PR. Helluva fighter but couldn't keep his life together. Maybe next year I'll go with aging boxers.

Rhianne 12-09-2012 08:48 AM

Today. Patrick Moore, 89.

22 points

Sundae 12-09-2012 08:51 AM

I know.
I had him last year...

I'm not sad he's gone though, he seemed to have made peace with his oncoming death. I saw more than one interview where he said his failing health prevented him from enjoying anything that had made his life worth living.

List 10 celebs who will die in 2012 -must be important enough that their deaths are reported by the national news sources in your country. Score 111-their age at death points for each hit, amputations will be prorated.

I'm starting with:

1. Maggie Thatcher
2. Zsa Zsa Gabor

rest to follow.....

Mandela and Thatcher both batting hard for me in the final inning.....

what?

infinite monkey 12-25-2012 05:53 AM

Somebody on my list died, but i never figured out the algorithm to tally my points. I want my dead credit, dammit!

I was leafing through a' tribute' issue of some magazine while standing in line at the grocery and i kept thinking: oh my, i forgot that one died. It was rather sobering to my middle-age 'they're dropping like hotcakes' sensibility.
