i cant speak for everyone at pd but i think there are "no hard feelings"
tiki and i felt welcomed over here and we offer help/suggestions for your safari because we think we have found like minded individuals an we are impressed with your taking the idea and running with it.

what you do with it is entirely up to you, if our "help" came off as "your doing it wrong" sorry.

the point for us on our trips is to have fun and be creative
we have "done it wrong" a few times ourselves and in my opinion having fun and being creative is a better outcome....

loving day two so far..
fomenter aka sir john

and Roger just needs to get over himself. you all act like he's a god or a lumberjim or something ;)

However, believe it or not, I'm not all about peeing on anyone's parade, so hope that my crapness at being unable to ignore the natives is overcome already.

I'm a member here now. I'm here as a member. I'm not here as an emissary anymore. When you GO to a FOREIGN community, respecting the natives is how you avoid turning it into a clusterfuck. Just giving you some pointers on where it went wrong the first time. It seems to be well under control now. You want to troll, troll. I'm just making observations on how trolling differs from a safari, and what the PD spags learned about making safaris work.

Roger is my friend. I mean, my for-real, man-has-my-back, fucking calls to make sure I'm OK when I'm having hard times friend. You don't like him? I could give a crap. As far as I'm concerned, the man is solid gold. Do I act like he's a god? A Mexica Rain God, perhaps? :lulz:

Your jokes do not ping my funnay.

Here's a tip; if you don't like the native culture at PD.com, DON'T GO THERE. I mean, that's a no-brainer.

Giving yourselves style point for how you visit another site en mass, and telling other people ur doin it rong.... also funny.

Stomping around our chat room like drunken assholes... funny the first time.

Rabid crazy pissed-off? where did you see that? You want rabid crazy pissed-off, you'll have to look in some other threads. Nobody was more than bored and/or mildly irritated in that thread.

As for whether ur doing it rong... depends on whether, as the first post in this thread says, you were actually basing your return visit on our safari model. If you were just trolling, you were TOTALLY doing it right. Well, two or three of you were. The rest were doing the Safari right, which is what they are continuing to do now, without the outright trolling.

that joke was here, that's the point. yet you got all bent out of shape.

here's a tip for you: ;) = j/k. If you need that spelling out, you really should just go back to where you came from. I don't give two hoots about roger -you could be buttfucking him in the mouth for all I care... I was noting a similarity in the two communities in a subtle and joking manner. One that has been the topic of much discussion here. it was not a personal attack, it ain't all about you, honey.

HS-twit? ow my feelings. Go boil your bottom. :p

Hey honey, I'm not bent out of shape. This is my business-casual look.

Stormieweather 02-04-2009 12:53 PM

Ok I rofl'd :D

Cicero 02-04-2009 01:07 PM

lol!!!
That one's a keeper.

kerosene 02-04-2009 02:01 PM

They never define business casual very well in the manual. I usually take it to mean flip-flops and jeans are okay. ;)

Sundae 02-04-2009 02:04 PM

I remember the first time I saw that on a travel schedule.
I asked my boss and he asid, "Pretty much what you wear to the office!"
I was still the most dressed down person there... then again, we did have a pretty casual office.

Pie 02-04-2009 02:18 PM

I liked it better when I had company logo-wear. A polo shirt with the company logo and khakis were the usual dress code. Only thought in the mornings was black? grey? white? blue? Which is cleaner?

not going on safari its "ratting out" our arrival ahead of time or our presence when on sites under cover that is bannable

Sundae 02-05-2009 06:38 AM

I think I'm done.
It was sorta fun, pretending to be someone else, but I couldn't get away from the original hostile reaction. The first night, when you all descended, I was in bed (time difference) and I was thinking of all sorts of storylines and idea and situations I could bring up thinking they were funny. Then, reading all the criticism and the fact that only 2 or 3 people even responded, I got cold feet.

Now it seems like we're mostly amusing ourselves. Which is okay of course, but I'd rather do it here.

PD is interesting of course, but its level of criticism is set far too high for me. I like a gentler, more conversational type of board. Where mostly people are as you find them (sock puppets excepted - but even those are obvious) and posts generally relate to real life.

I can think of some Dwellars that would probably suit that environment better than here, but I'm not one of them. Not criticising the board at all. Itls the same as when a noob whines about not feeling welcome here, not thinking they fit in - my first reaction is, "Go somewhere else then! We are what we are!" I like to be liked.

I'll dip in for recipes and drink suggestions though. Prison Hooch! Who'da thunk it!

So, I just looked up Principia Discordia via WIKI, and am all WTF. It sound like an early version of thisisnotporn. I need to go return some stuff to the library. I'll see if they have a copy.

its available in pdf here http://www.scribd.com/doc/5966308/Principia-Discordia

don't click that link in LMNO's post. it's a guy shitting in i little glass jar, i think.

i closed it as soon as it became apparent that that was what was happening.

It's winding down over there, it would seem. I've hinted at an exit.....and gone off for a nap.

EDIT....oh no.....it's that thing elspode was telling about.....the glass jar up the but that breaks....oh damn him.

Cicero 02-05-2009 02:16 PM

Uuuugh. Well I am outta there. I waste too much time on the internet as it is.........I don't need to add yet, another site to the list.

The Safari concept was entertaining.

I'm not into the board culture over at PD, but they seem overall to be an interesting bunch of folks.

Click Click There's no place like home. Click Click

Payne 02-06-2009 05:58 AM

Hey hey, Payne here, from PD.

Just wanted to post a few thoughts on your safari.

I wasn't involved in the safari from PD to here, or in yours back to PD (except for posting a couple times about my WOMP work, with naturally inflated ego regarding my abilities. I'm not really THAT conceited*).

Overall, I think you guys achieved what you wanted out of it which is what's really important. The first phase reminded me terribly of our own first safari. Back then I was very much involved with them. We boarded some Canadian general discussion board as colonial-era explorers complete with pith hats and were looking for "Dr. Livingstoned". When the admin showed up, we were banned en masse.

While you weren't banned, your safari was received in much the same way as our very first.

With some hints and tips from Tiki, I think you were much more successful with your second attempt. You seemed to have fun anyway, which is the first priority. Some people refused to play along even for the second go, but that's more from a sense of 'once bitten, twice shy'. As you may have noticed if you leave them alone, they'll leave you alone.

The only thing I noticed was you seemed to be interacting with yourselves far more than with the regulars (fair enough, really. It was interacting with the natives that got you burned in phase one). Seeing as people are throwing around 'out of 5's' I'd give this overall attempt 3/5 and the second phase 4/5.

Internet Safaris can be hella fun, but the fun comes from the challenge. If you are trying to lead a bunch of people with 'authority issues' through a situation which you're trying to avoid becoming a mass boarding/trolling exercise, it can be difficult. Getting it right can pay off big time though.

Also, to give you a little background information here, there has been a bunch of paranoia and bad blood floating around PD lately. There has been at least one person sabotaging some of our projects which is totally NOT cool. If it wasn't for the slightly defensive nature generally adopted by PDers, you'd see we're normally down for any program. Not to say everyone would play along, but you'd have more people who were willing to.

I may stick around for a while to see if I actually like you guys or not, but on first impressions, I have to say you're not ALL bad.

Goodbye, and good luck!

*Okay, I am usually that conceited. I sign my name "THE MOTHERFUCKIN' MESSIAH!" after all...

P.S. I'mma post this on your thread on PD too, just cause it's a general announcement type thing.

Cellar roving reporter at your service once again...

So, I 'read' about 1/3 of PD last night. That's all I could stand. Remember the bi-polar grad student we had in the lab years ago? It was like trying to read her lab notebook when she was ramping up to full blown mania.

Some things were interesting...some funny-ish. Pretty much a collection of a bunch of inside jokes, like if we tried to write a book about the Church of the Whale Penis while high on 'shrooms. :3eye:

Meh.

Sundae 02-06-2009 09:42 AM

Payne - can't understand how I missed your post 1st time round.
But thanks much for your input. Really.

What I find puzzling is that on such a harsh forum (my opinion, ymmv) there are such decent people.
Not sarcasm - you and Fomenter and Tiki (their names here at least) have made an effort to contact us, to give tips and hints and generally include us, despite the fact it was your board we descended on. Okay, it was because you safari'd, but the majority of posters in each case were not involved.

From my point of view we were successful. Why? Because a number of us got together, had fun making pictures, names and histories. We're a community and we were a community on vacation. And we discovered why we love the Cellar.

And I got some recipes for home made alcofrolics.
And realised that even on harsh boards there are gentle people.
Okay, I LOd a bit too :)

its been a lot of fun having you guys visit us at pd all in all a great first safari well done .
i hope the space men strike out and explore other corners of the Internet universe, and when you do go ahead and interact with the locals in their topics of discussion , our safari here was messed up a bit by events at home, so we didn't do that as much as we normally do when we were here, but we like to try to make intelligent on topic posts in the threads of the forums we visit, you have a good diverse group here and when your areas of expertise overlap with the topics being discussed go ahead and participate.

thanks for the fun and the laffs

on Pd's harsh and weird forum culture , i can try to explain why it is the way it is, but i wont trouble you with it unless you are interested..

fomentor 02-06-2009 12:10 PM

BLOGS i almost forgot please write up a safari blog entry for your travels and submit it to cainad at pd....

our blog project has fallen way behind due to the large number of other projects being worked on, so if you want to write a blog from the natives point of view for our visit here as well, it would be a cool, different perspective on the game and would go over well ...

Payne 02-06-2009 12:34 PM

To whoever it was that said they missed my post, that's cause of the weird moderation thing required for first posts. Fucking weird if you ask me. I prefer to jump right in.

Also, PD really is like any other collection of people. We hacve higher ideals sure, but if you look you can see a lot of us also know that we really are just like any other collection of upright hairless apes.

Lastly, Like I said in my last post, I'm not sure if I actually like you guys yet. I just thought I'd do you the courtesy of an objective review and a proper "handshake". That may be just me, but I like to actually meet new people and shit.

xoxoxoBruce 02-06-2009 12:40 PM

We had to go to first post moderation when we were flooded with (8 or 10 a day) spammers.
