I'm sorry about your loss, skysidhe. I'm sure you gave him an excellent life.

My condoleances Skysidhe! I try not to think that my big red one could die some day... I ll dont know what to do! I guess grieve is thesame everywhere!
U had a dozen of great years ..... u can always remember nice times! Best wishes and a better 2007! |
Thank you everyone for the condolences! I keep sending out my love to him just in case there is someplace after death he is frolicking in.
The one thing that keeps me believing in heaven is that I will see my pets one day even if it is just some fabrication of a dying brain. He was so scared and in pain. It is a very haunting memory. I felt so powerless.I could offer no comfort. When I would talk to him he would talk back in little whimpers. I don't know what he was trusting me for when all I could do was to end it for him. I have alot of guilt over that. :sniff: now that has got me grieving again :mecry: I miss him so. |
Its sad.....there are people who live a life like that and decide to end it...
A pet cant talk so we take the most important decisions for them. Im sure that living in pain also is too much for an animal and that the owner takes the right decision. I think you did that, so you dont have to feel guilty bout that... We all feel powerless in such a time... But death is a part of life, you keep sending out your love and memories and he will always live! |

You're feeling guilty because you couldn't do what you wanted....keep him alive.... and instead did what he wanted.... give him peace? Hell, don't feel guilty about doing the right thing....about doing the best for him, as always. Be glad you were there when he needed you. You done good. :notworthy |

Bruce always knows two things--#1) what is right
#2) to say what is right. My condolences, sky. May your kitty be purring in heaven. |
Guys, Your props to me are heart felt and so I actually feel lighter of heart! Your sincere support is greatly appreciated. I really needed to hear the voice of reason so thanks!
Big bear hug for all of you. :grouphug: |
*hugs Sky back*
|
My condolences Skysidhe. I know how hard it is to have to put an animal down, but as Bruce said you were doing what was right and what your kitty needed. As long as you remember him he will live on. *sends warm wishes*

Anyone read the "Rainbow Bridge". Beautiful thought for those who are not atheists.

Some one at work mentioned Rainbow Bridge. I did go there. It is nice. I chose to do an in house memorial. I've been looking for cats here. Not a one to be found in the paper. I was thinking something exotic but I might have to settle for a mutt kitty..... The only cat's I have appreciated so far are Jinx's cat's and this white tiger. http://members.fortunecity.com/alanw78/pic/white14.jpg |
Your "in house memorial" reminds me that I have a memorial coming soon...
I lost my favorite horse in 2000. I'd had him for 18 years and he lived to be 29. There is a company that makes plastic horses and I have paid a person to paint one of these models to match Cochise. She boxed it up last week and has sent it on it's way...I'll post pics when it arrives (next week?) to show. I also lost two horses in 2004 within months of each other. A friend took some of their tail hair and had a memorial made for me. From the black tail, a vase-like container was made and from the gray tail the person is having a lid for the container made. hh |
I don't know what to do.
My pain level is much worse and Bhodi has been reacting to it poorly. He is going in the house, chewing my son's toys and getting into garbage. It is like he is a puppy again. Problem is that I could slip on urine and fall very easily. In a lot of ways the walker is more dangerous than a cane and I have to use it now. If I break my hip, I will not walk again and it could kill me. I do NOT want to have to get rid of him, but do not know what to do. I love him very much. His affection helps me deal with my condition a great deal. I spend a lot of time alone. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...100_0864sm.jpg Lula http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...e/100_0866.jpg |

That is a simply beautiful thought. Thanks for sharing. I had horses as a child and teen. I'll be waiting to see the pictures! [quote=rkzenrage;305089]I don't know what to do. What is your option. |
It sounds like Bhodi wants attention, any way he can get it. Sorta like kids, even bad attention is still attention.
My only suggestions are to keep garbage and toys out of his reach. Frequent trips outside for bathroom visits and high praise for when he 'goes' correctly outside. Perhaps he can be baby-gated into a particular room? Otherwise...outside dog with limited amounts of time indoors under constant and vigilant, supervision. Here is a pic of Cochise when he was about 22 years old. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...hiseaage22.jpg This is the model that was modified (roman nose) to look like Cochise and will be painted to match: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...iv/3Breyer.jpg Here is a pic of the vase shaped container made from Poquita's tail hair. A lid will be made from Dulcinea's gray tail hair. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...Dmemoriala.jpg |
Those are lovely memorials. And if I dont miss my guess, your plastic pony is from Breyer?

Kris, is your meezer a young kitty? Or is your orange-guy just HUGE?! (polydactyl, too)
My memorial arrived today! I loved this horse. He was given to me by an Okie neighbor (who I also loved, am still very good friends with his widow) when I was in High School. I had Cochise for 18 wonderful years and many hours/miles of riding all year round, right up to the day before I had to have him euthanized at the age of 29. Spot on, Wolf! It is a Breyer (San Domingo) model I had re-painted by an artist. The SD model has much better conformation than Cochise ever had, but the head-tilt is all Cochise! I have collected Breyers since 1974 and have nearly 400 of them. I think the artist did a fabulous job! hh |

Might be a good idea to have the vet check for trouble.

How old is Bhodi? Sometimes bathroom troubles can be age related..but for some reason I'm thinking he is a younger (under 6) dog?
Any major changes to the household he may be "protesting" about? hh |

Anyone who has owned a long haired pooch in a snowy locale can relate to this. Not my dog, but reason #47 why I want a short haired one someday...
|
Oh,wow...that is great, labrat! :)

LabRat, is that dog's name "Snowball"? :D

He gets lots of attention, he spends all day with me. Edit: We are pretty sure he is about three, we know he is less than four. |
rkzenrage, have you tried keeping some areas of the house off limits to him? That way you can have a clear idea of where the risk is likely to be, of slipping and take extra care in that area;p alternatively, could you possibly ensure that everywhere is carpetted? that way the floor won't become slippy if he has an accident/fit of pique.
I suggest this because I know from experience that getting rid of a much loved pet, for health reasons feels horrible. It leaves you feeling very at odds with the world and (bizarrely) can leave you feeling guilty as well. If there is any possible way to avoid it, it really is best. I think if you felt you had to get rid of him, the repercussions state of mind wise, could be unpleasant. |
They make doggie diapers...since I know that keeping him away from you isn't in either of your best interests.
For the love of g*d, the smell that carpet + pee makes would make even rkzen bolt out the door. barf. |
No carpet in our house and he is being good now, unless it rains... too bad we live in the damn sub-tropics.

I'm pleased to introduce you all to our newest fur child, Rocky. He is a two year old miniature Pinscher/wire haired somethingorother mix. He's sharp as a tack, terribly obedient, and responds to the following commands: sit, lay, speak, and give me five/ten. He is also keenly aware of the meaning of the following terms: outside, cookie, walk and baby (which I discovered, completely by accident, is his idea of what his stuffed fluffy toy dog is called).
Selene found Rocky on craigslist last week. She's been convinced for some time now that Bridgid, the dog we've had for five years now, was lonely during the day while everyone was at work and school, and thus needed a companion. I had argued that this was unlikely as Bridgid has, up until now, been utterly unaware that she was in fact a dog in the first place. She simply considers herself the shortest, least employed member of the family. She's *never* socialized well with other dogs, but we gave it a try anyway. So far, so good. She's still a jealous animal, and commands the first and best of everything (such as position in the bed, food, attention, etc), but they are adapting well to each other. Rocky is great. So great, in fact, and so obviously loved by the man from whom we adopted him, that we're not quite sure why he was let go in the first place. We are the fortunate beneficiaries of someone else's misfortune, I suppose. |
You've got a little star there Spode! Maybe you should, pack up and move to Beverly...
|
He does sort of have that Benji vibe...only with longer legs.
|
He looks like he could be a buddy...... and a chick magnet. Did the guy say how old he is?
|
Very cute. Can you ask the former owner why he got rid of Rocky? I just hope nothing bad pops up with him (health problems being the number one thing I would worry about). Good luck with getting the doggies acquainted! :D

The owner just said he couldn't keep the dog at his parents' house, but I don't think the father was the issue. I'm guessing mom was a bit too fastidious or something. |
My dog Alta will take a fresh bone from after dinner and immediately go bury it in the snow. Then she'll come back days later, dig it up, and crunch away on her bone-sicle while lying in the soft snow.

Great pics. That Golden looks just like Zeke, my brother's dog. He is an awesome dog, that's for sure. |
Thanks for the compliments! BTW, the mostly white dog is Zeke, too. The orange one is Gromit and the black/white is Bodhi.
