It hit 4.3 degrees fahrenheit last night in Raytown. Winter is here, global warming is over, I'm out of firewood.

Winter's thinking about coming here today. Well, not really, but the temperature is dropping by like 20-30 degrees today. Yesterday, it was still very nice.

This is Gravelly Point, a park at the end of the runway for National Airport. I wonder if you would get in trouble if you tried to fly a kite in this park? There are no signs prohibiting it.

Dude! It snowed here today! I mean really snowed!

They're saying this is the first time in three years, but I say that's bogus because in 2004 the snow started at 1:30 in the morning and had all melted away again before decent people were out of bed. Prior to that it had been many, many years. Today, however, it snowed all morning and afternoon. Crazy.

Winter finally stopped and asked for directions.

It was 70F on Monday, 58F as I was leaving work at 0100 hrs.

Right now it is 22F.

F as in FUCKING COLD.

Griff 01-17-2007 06:59 AM

6 degrees F and snowy this morning brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Yeah, winter showed up today in DC. I'm not sure it's January yet, but it's definately at least mid-December.

I checked Yahoo weather Monday. It said the low would be 24 and the high would be 48. It showed the current temperature as 59.

It's the gale force winds that have battered my littile isle every two weeks for three/four days at a time that is unusual - usually we get just one bout of such weather per winter. So far this winter we've had five or six such bursts.
It's been unseasonally mild, too, but we are promised colder weather and more gales over the next two days. Warm gales do feel odd and we've had a fair few of those recently.

CF wasn't kidding; this winter precipitation thing is, indeed, an anomaly for us central Texans. After 48 hours of this crap, I'm glad it's going away and things are thawing out. Texans DO NOT know how to drive in it, walk in it, shop for it, or talk about anything other than it on the news. You'd have thought it was the apocalypse rather than some ice: you'd be hard pressed to find a gallon of milk or a loaf of bread in this city right now; there was nearly rioting in a grocery store in a less desirable area of town noon today.

Adios, icy streets and crazed people!

Ap, you should see the way Tucsonians, uh, drive in the rain. Admittedly, rain in the Phoenix-Tucson desert valley tends to come as powerful thunderstorms, and the desert soil doesn't sponge the stuff up -- and Tucson road underpasses haven't much drainage. Somebody always ends up wet up to his ass if not drowning, trying to push through something that could be ponding rain water eight feet deep.

Snow in Tucson is actually apparently less of a problem -- because the Tucsonians don't drive in the stuff to speak of, but instead cancel all appointments, run outside, and play in it, because they know it will all be gone tomorrow! And it might not come back for two years. So, little driving but plenty snowball fights.

Well, hell. We've got 3 inches of snow this morning. DAY-AM! gotta go shovel out the driveway....shoot.

Elspode 01-21-2007 11:26 AM

I've got about five inches of snow this morning. It is staying right the fuck where it fell. I'll show Nature who's boss.

Perry Winkle 01-21-2007 11:28 AM

It's snowing right now...sorta. Barely flurries really.

Happy Monkey 01-21-2007 01:19 PM

Yeah, it's not the most impressive snowfall, but I'll go ahead and upgrade this winter to January.
