Thanks. The only problem I have is that I had a typographical error with the word 'Soldier'. UG's posts do not have misspelling or typographical errors.

My muse in the writing was the scene in "Blues Brothers" where Henry Gibson is sitting in uniform painting a statue of an eagle.

hahahahha, yes! Go Blues Brothers!
that movie comes on here, on tv, about once a week.

I have no problem with allies, as long as they are truly allies and not just using us while hating us and undermining our interests every chance they get.
I'm afraid the smart course is that we must assume that everyone is using everyone to some extent. As we do. The search for unconditional love in politics will break your heart. And If believe you find it, it eventually leads to more bad than good.

"Unconditional" and "love" never enter into it. It is simply a matter of joint interests.

warch 09-25-2006 11:38 AM

You mention that true allies dont use or hate us. So conditions and love entered into your statement. But I agree, it is a matter of joint interests and it is very romantic to think that allies could ever be solidly, enduringly "true".

I guess you haven't seen the clip of Bush and Blair singing, "I want to take you to a gay bar". :D

rkzenrage 09-26-2006 12:31 AM

The thing is, if you hate an organization or company, you hate what they do or what they stand for, you don't support them, borrow from them, allow their agents into your home or property, etc. It is that simple.

Ibby 09-26-2006 04:00 AM

No, it's not that simple, because that isn't how things work.

Flint 09-26-2006 08:07 AM

I demand that it may or may not be "that simple" !!! It's either one or the other, damnit !!! :::deflects incoming rebuttals:::

Still, UG didn't quite hit that evocative tone that's really needed. Let me try to punch it up a little.

How's that?

Love that Rich. Haven't ever seen the word "grok" ever during my travels on various forums the last 7 years until our demi-god UG used it here. Guess where my preference lies...

Wow, that was a William S. Burroughs moment.

hey, I'm not saying thats not how it SHOULD work or that its not how I would do things. I'm just saying, thats not how international politics work. I, however, am not a country, and so I dont give a shit for how international politics work, I'll do things my way, how I see fit.
