Sun_Sparkz 06-30-2005 08:33 PM

I thought the message was scary. i hope they dont ummm, have our registration details (email and computer 3 etc) and will enforce that i am needed to die.

eek!

jinx 06-30-2005 08:36 PM

Seems like UT should be earning combat pay at this point.

Uh... where'd the tip jar go?

seems like they have your number, t. how can they continue to get in? is it a new avenue each time, or is vb flawed somehow?

lookout123 06-30-2005 11:36 PM

my question is still - why the cellar? why continuously the cellar? although we love the cellar, it isn't exactly a high profile target.

smoothmoniker 07-01-2005 12:35 AM

lookout, if we ask "Why the Cellar", then the terrorists have already won.

wolf 07-01-2005 01:41 AM

I suspect the TINP effect. Not that they actually did it, but their mere presence makes this place attractive to hackers.

Either that or this is the latest round in Sycamore's Quest for Whale Penis Primacy.

Out of curiousity I googled their name, and came up with a slew of sites that they had hacked. And that is as far as I got before I got distracted by something bright and shiny.

Hobbs 07-01-2005 08:34 AM

Well, there is one thing. Thier hacked home pages always have their email address on it. Purhaps one of use should write to them and simply ask them to stop hacking the Cellar......

Bwahhahahahhaa.....oh man I crack myself up sometimes.... :lol2:

Anyway, I figured who ever they are, they must be from the middle east. All those groups over there love to use the terms "brigade," "group," "crew," etc. It must sound noble in their native laguage, not realizing that it just sounds "gay" in our native language.

He must have you on ignore.

Trilby 07-01-2005 10:56 AM

I was actually thrown off by the hack last night! I was trying to fix my non-rhyming entry in the Rhyme Time thread as, just as I pressed "quick post" I realized, too late, that Orpheus did NOT rhyme with Kafka. And BigV called me on it. But I couldn't get in and now I feel "less than"----Ahhahahahahahahahaha!!!!

xoxoxoBruce 07-02-2005 08:16 PM

Did it happen again this afternoon/evening?

Yes. I saw it for the first time this afternoon.

Undertoad 07-02-2005 08:46 PM

It was down for about 4 minutes.

Rock Steady 07-02-2005 09:23 PM

Is it time to switch to Solaris 10 yet? We did and it really rocks. It's free.

At this other forum we keep getting jerks that take posts and repost them on FC. The forum is only readable by members so we were able to track down the culprits and ban them. It helps that a couple of us are mods at two different forums.

Was today's spate of "connection refused" messages a denial of service or a battening down of hatches? (or something secret that we'll only learn about on a need to know basis)

Undertoad 07-04-2005 08:41 PM

B. All will be told in time!

smoothmoniker 07-04-2005 10:10 PM

arsome

lookout123 07-04-2005 11:49 PM

hey, i heard that UT was going to make this a pay site. pass it on. and by invite only.

didn't you get your invite?

:tinfoil:

smoothmoniker 07-05-2005 01:12 AM

the whole site is going back to beta. you'll have to know someone who's already a member to get logged on.

Trilby 07-05-2005 07:28 PM

the red devils did it again. around 810pm. devious, they are.

Seriously, that might not be a bad thing to do for a short time...make everything accessible only to members...except for IotD.

Rock Steady 07-07-2005 01:23 PM

Yea, we did that at this other forum. Keeps out the riff raff, but stunts the growth of the community. Unfortunately, sycamore was already a member. :D

Not to split hairs, but to mince words, Google is not a verb.

Mince all you like. Google as a verb works quite well as demonstrated by you clear understanding of his usage. Google as a verb has definitely entered the language, even if it is not in a dictionary.

Carry on.

Rock Steady 07-07-2005 02:53 PM

Dear Mr. McFedries:

I am trademark counsel for Google. I have recently become aware of a
definition of "google" on your website, www.wordspy.com. This definition
implies that "google" is a verb synonymous with "search." Please note that
Google is a trademark of Google Technology Inc. Our brand is very
important to us, and as I'm sure you'll understand, we want to make sure
that when people use "Google," they are referring to the services our
company provides and not to Internet searching in general. ...

Google is a verb if and only if you are using Google brand search engine, which most people do when the Google something.

lookout123 07-07-2005 03:05 PM

oh good grief - let me make this clear. you. freak. ing. nerds.

capnhowdy 07-07-2005 03:40 PM

Actually the word could be seen as go ogle. (as a compound).
Not a language expert but that should qualify as a verb of some sort.
A computer geek told me that is the origion of the term, although I can't warrant it's validity. Probably intellibull.......

No way JR is going to get rid of his own kind (a hillbilly). :)

Rock Steady 07-07-2005 04:40 PM

Some urban legends are very easy to dismiss.

http://www.google.com/intl/en/corporate/history.html

Google History

Google is a play on the word googol, which was coined by Milton Sirotta, nephew of American mathematician Edward Kasner, and was popularized in the book, "Mathematics and the Imagination" by Kasner and James Newman. It refers to the number represented by the numeral 1 followed by 100 zeros. Google's use of the term reflects the company's mission to organize the immense, seemingly infinite amount of information available on the web. ...

RS, pay attention. This is how you mince words. Emphasis mine.

Rock Steady 07-07-2005 04:48 PM

Just to be splitting hairs, he only minced one word there.

lookout123 07-07-2005 05:04 PM

AAAAUUUGHHH!!! :smack: :banghead: where the hell is the RDC when you need them?

j/k. seriously. please don't hack us anymore.

Hey l123, :chill:

Shouldn't this post go in this thread? I think the little animated smilies would look really cute in the banner.

BigV 07-08-2005 03:40 PM

I'm experiencing considerable turbulence out here. Anybody else? numerous 404 errors, cannot connect, etc? Anybody?

Trilby 07-08-2005 03:55 PM

I got some sort of Index page yesterday for quite a while and today I got thrown off (rude!) with the RDC telling me-AGAIN-how much I am needed to die.

melidasaur 07-08-2005 04:06 PM

I got the RDC again today... they sure suck. UT, you're doing a great job - I know that this has to be frustrating for you.

capnhowdy 07-08-2005 06:41 PM

I had it yesterday.......about 8:00 eastern.
Wish I had those bastards by the neck. Sick mofos, all I can say.

Rock Steady 07-08-2005 07:37 PM

Well, UT will be changing systems. Until then, we should just ignore them; don't mention it anymore. Not let them any feedback about how effective it is or not.

So, for now, how 'bout them A's?

xoxoxoBruce 07-09-2005 08:21 PM

Are you the new information and moral officer? :eyebrow:

Rock Steady 07-10-2005 05:13 PM

Just making a suggestion xoB. If you think it is a bad suggestion, just do whatever you want. But, you knew that already. Lighten up, kid; I'm not out to ruin your forum.

Oh, and last night Zito (6-8) beat Burele (10-3) for the second time in two weeks. Go A's.

marichiko 07-10-2005 07:56 PM

Oh, Grrrrr! UT, have you zeroed in on their locale yet? If so, just say the word and if they're within a 500 mile radius of Colorado, I'll see what I can manage. After all, I'm already on record as having neurological damage and I might as well have some fun with my diagnosis. Bet I'd get off with community service with credit for a service to the world already done! :rar:

OnyxCougar 07-11-2005 05:07 AM

Not now that you posted it, Mari. NOW it's premeditated.

Oh...and don't feel special. I have a history of questioning orders from anyone here except UT. And of course Katkeeper.
