He'll have to use coconuts.

There are no coconuts in PA. Are you trying to tell me coconuts migrate?

Spent the night on the USS New Jersey with my son's cub scout pack last night. This is me RFMidnight. I could never be in the Navy. And I had one of the spacious racks with 50% more headroom..
|
you Look SOOO thrilled to be there Glatt !!
How Many Bulkheads did ya Clonk Yer Noggen on ????? |
It was actually a ton of fun, except for the sleeping arrangements. I was too long for my rack!

You look ten years younger than when you were shoveling. Tired, but younger.

Glatt, ya oughta try it when the berthing is full of other guys all trying to get up, dressed, shave and get to the head all at the same time each morning.
Slapt in one of those for years and you're right, the bunks are seemingly designed for the same adult model that is used for car backseats. |
In the news lately was some story about two sailors who fell asleep watching tv in the same bunk. They got in serious trouble. I don't know how it would be possible for two adults to fit in the same bunk, let alone two adults and one tv.
And how do diseases not run right through an entire berthing? There were 18 people sleeping within about a meter of me that night. If one guy has a cold, how does it not spread to everyone? I would really have a hard time being in the Navy. |
careful how you say that, squiddy

To answer Glatt's question, two guys can fall asleep in the same bunk, either stacked on top of one another REALLY closely, or, much more likely, sitting sideways on a top bunk. I think that story happened at a school though, where you get to sleep on a more normal-sized bed.
Colds and other contagious bugs are a different matter. One undiagnosed case of cold or flu can take out the entire berthing, which is why most sailors will head to sick call at the first sign that something is wrong. They then are checked out by the corpsman and if they are contagious, they are sequestered for the protection of everybody. Vermin are another problem. Should someone bring in lice or fleas or anything like that inadvertently, everyone in that compartment gets their belongings laundered in smelly soap and they get "dipped". The unfortunate sailor usually gets pummelled that night, too. Living that closely can be problematic at times. Brian |
