In your ears as in through a pierced hole? That hook looks huge, though -are they for regular pierced ears, or the enlarged gauge piercings? I wholeheartedly apologize for not knowing the proper terms.

And yes, I did. A long long time ago and it wasn't all that memorable.

Cloud 06-26-2010 06:05 PM

ah, I was just amusing myself! Yes, they are for stretched earlobes. Since they're not conventional earrings, I try not to call them that. My lobes are stretched to 6 gauge; conventional earrings are about 18 to 20 gauge. The picture shows various sizes--my pair will be the smallest one pictured, since 6 ga isn't all that large (to us).

Note: Never called stretched ears "gauges." Although lots of people do, it's considered a newbie mistake. I could get into a whole diatribe about word usage and elitism, which you might even enjoy, but . . . I won't. ;)

and I always liked Little Men and its sequels better.

monster 06-26-2010 06:27 PM

So (in "layman" terms), do you wear a "porthole" earring to "frame" the hole before you put those in? Ot you just wear those?

Cloud 06-26-2010 06:37 PM

you can, and many do wear tunnels and then put hanging style jewelry in there. It helps distribute the weight. I don't, because my holes are fairly small. I wouldn't need it with those earrings/bobs--wood is light.

Usually during the week at work I wear simple plugs that minimize the impact of the hole size. Like this:

not THAT little!

HungLikeJesus 06-27-2010 09:37 AM

It's just like Out of Africa.

Cloud 06-27-2010 09:48 AM

HLJ: I know your comment was meant to be snarky, but there's some truth to it. Some body jewelry is modeled after traditional peoples' jewelry, and many of the aficionados style themselves (or at least follow the trend of) "modern primitives." I have a beautiful book called, "Africa Adorned" full of just gorgeous stuff. Surprisingly, there's a lot of traditional Indian jewelry forms that have not been picked up by our current industry--not sure why.

HungLikeJesus 06-27-2010 10:06 AM

Not snarky (rudely sarcastic or disrespectful; snide. Irritable or short-tempered; irascible), but I'll admit that I do not find the gauges attractive.

Cloud 06-27-2010 10:09 AM

that's a good thing, actually; in terms of a unique body aesthetic. It's not supposed to appeal to everyone.

I, myself, don't like really, really big ones--they look unhealthy to me; and I emphatically try to discourage very young people from doing it, as they are pretty permanent.

Clodfobble 08-19-2010 11:17 PM

I just bought 15 sets of kids' pajamas for under $100. Hot damn!

monster 08-20-2010 01:40 PM

last night I bought 120 cans of beer. For about $75

Juniper 08-20-2010 02:08 PM

It's back-to-school time. You know what the hell I bought. :(

4 new pairs of soccer shoes. That little shit had the decency to stay the same size all last season and then grew a bit we replaced his shoes in June. The little shit grew a full size since June and I just had to replace the whole freaking set.

if he grows again I'm taking money from his college fund.

Cloud 08-20-2010 05:43 PM

sleep naked. save money.

monster 08-20-2010 09:53 PM

Bigger than this guy?

Sundae 08-21-2010 09:24 AM

Today I did buy some Pimms-alike.
Do you guys have Pimms? It's an alcoholic drink that is never drunk straight (well, not by normal people!) but is a summer institution when served with lemonade, fruit and mint.

Normal bottles go for about £15 I think. This knock-off was £4.99.
I figure once it's diluted, iced up, stuffed with strawberries, orange and mint (no cucumber, I hate the cucumber) no-one will know the difference.

It's part of my Sunday Summer Menu. So they'll be too tipsy to notice if the pork comes out dry!

Also bought some sunflowers for Mum. They were local - always a good thing - and will look lovely on the table tomorrow.

ZenGum 08-21-2010 09:32 AM

We have Pimms down here. Perilous stuff when mixed, goes down like fruity iced tea or something, then really sneaks up on you when you try to stand up.

Sundae 08-21-2010 09:35 AM

Oh aye - only thng more perilous is strawberry beer (Fruili, sold on tap in various Greenwich establishments) which goes down like a cheap whore but sneaks up on you like a mugger.

Sounds like you need to work on strategies to stunt his growth. He could take up smoking.

wolf 08-21-2010 04:56 PM

I bought ankle socks, and two Beatles themed journals (Abbey Road and Yellow Submarine).

I had intended to get a car charger for my cell phone and a new laptop. I did not get either.

However, because they just remodeled my EvilEmpire store, I had a $5 welcome back gift card, so the socks were free.

blue 08-21-2010 05:50 PM

Foam swords, booze & a Score candybar, I'm addicted to those mofos, The little one is sound asleep, (we got foam swords today), I'm working on the booze.

skysidhe 09-24-2010 05:15 PM

I just came back from a junk food run. I don't do that very often and I only meant to get milk, tortilla chips and gum! I swear!

I bought corn Doritos for homemade salsa.
Balsamic and sweet onion potato chips. To go with tuna sandwiches, I tell myself.
Pillsbury mini brownies ( chocolate and vanilla is a great combination so I get.....
Slow churned vanilla ice cream with half the fat, mind you. ;)
Black forest gummy worms, because I am a gummy worm /bear freak.
2 gallons of fat free milk
2 liter bottle of Squirt. I have been craving it.
3 pack of Orbit peppermint gum. Special request.

monster 09-24-2010 05:17 PM

Lefty Lucy 09-24-2010 06:40 PM

We went looking... and came back broke (again)

Cloud 09-25-2010 04:49 PM

very pretty. what is it?

Clodfobble 09-25-2010 05:12 PM

A car.

[/smartass] ;)

wolf 09-25-2010 05:41 PM

Supermarket run, probably could have survived without going, but I wanted bananas and it sort of gets out of control after that, because that forces me to start at the front and work my way sequentially to the end wandering past all those evil little sale tags. Bought very few things that weren't on special. You can't pass up $1.88 Tasycakes, especially while Spice Kake Krimpets are in season. And some yeast, just in case I break through the bread-making inertia. And I really needed the garlic bread pretzels nuggets. And some organic chocolate chip cookies, but we're having girl's night and one just HAS to take a snack. And they've never had crab chowder before. See, I really needed it. I just have to decide how I'll do the hamburger. I bought lunchmeat so I don't want to do a meatloaf. And I forgot to buy breadcrumbs. Oh crap. Unrelated to the meatloaf, I forgot to get mayo. I always forget something if I'm not using a list.

Lamplighter 09-25-2010 05:53 PM

Cloud, as Clod said, it is a car, for sure

It currently goes by a name of Subaru Impressa Outback Sport.
But my wife will see to that as soon as she gets a feeling for it's personality...
probably something soft and feminine, but then who knows.

Cloud 09-25-2010 07:58 PM

it's not a car, it's a wagon! /smartassbackatya

it's purty, congrats Lamplighter

monster 09-25-2010 10:23 PM

Excuse me, you forgot to mention what time. :yum:

Jaydaan 09-26-2010 02:14 PM

I am starting my Chirstmas present making... so, I bought 6 wooden boxes to paint and decorate, 3 small flexable wood (balsa?) pouches. I will use these for Rune Set. I also bought some stained glass paints, and some glass beads.
Total $21.50

Then beacuse my dog was so good on our 25min walk to the store, and the 10 min wait while I shoped, we went into the pet store, and I bought her a treat as well as found this little tag pouch. Neat little gadget, hopefully it will stop the constant jingling of Freya's two tags.
Total $7.21

OK, I want one.

Nirvana 09-26-2010 08:08 PM

I think I can get antique plates for it next year! ;) It has rust but the interior is immaculate and the owner was a gear head.

xoxoxoBruce 09-26-2010 08:18 PM

A little duct tape & rustoleum will make it gooder than new. Can you get farm plates?

I needed a phone with a good keyboard. It is simple. Doesn't have all the bells and whistles of other phones. I cannot upload pictures but I can send them to people. I can also check email from the phone and send pictures to email via the phone. The keyboard is great. The font is large and clear. I wasn't expecting such a nice little phone for the price. I am very happy with it.

xoxoxoBruce 10-07-2010 08:18 AM

There's a new iPhone coming out, after the first of the year, that is Verizon compatible.

Cloud 10-09-2010 10:02 PM

black shoes for work. Clog-y mary jane ones, this time. I hope they fit! I swear I've spent hundreds of dollars on shoes that I end up not being able to stand to wear.

Wide feet + extra sensitive toesies = not many shoe choices.

monster 10-09-2010 10:05 PM

over-priced chicken tenders for my son and overpriced gas. Son and car were both running on vapor.
