It's stopped snowing here and squirell guirell has gone out driving on errands. The roads are quite clear.

No way does squirrel or even squirell rhyme with girl. Don't even try that shit. NO WAY.

yah.

squirell nutkin 02-10-2010 02:53 PM

how does you pronounce girl?

jinx 02-10-2010 02:54 PM

Rhymes with squirrel.

TheMercenary 02-10-2010 02:54 PM

Gurl?

monster 02-10-2010 02:56 PM

here we go again.... ;)

girl rhymes with hurl and curl and whirl but most definitely not Squirrel which rhymes with Cyril and Quirrel as in Professsor. So there. :p

squirell nutkin 02-10-2010 02:56 PM

Right, Jinx. And Gurl rhymes with squrl. Therefore...

squirell nutkin 02-10-2010 02:57 PM

cyril squirell? How the fuck do you expect to pass your citizenship test with that glaring shibboleth?

squirell nutkin 02-10-2010 02:58 PM

(btw, bitchin' thread drift gang! we rock!)

TheMercenary 02-10-2010 03:00 PM

Rock does not rhyme with squirell or gurl. Just FTR.

squirell nutkin 02-10-2010 03:03 PM

More to the point, how do you pronounce Jigna?

jinx 02-10-2010 03:09 PM

I say Jig-nuh and she hasn't corrected me. I doubt it's her real name anyway, they (the extended family that runs the place) tend to reuse name tags and make names up. Jigna has a sister that uses an old tag that either says Sqnall or Sonall, and the patriarch usually uses Bob, but not always. When you ask for Bob they have no idea who you're talking about...

monster 02-10-2010 03:16 PM

glatt 02-10-2010 03:30 PM

I just walked/trudged around for an hour, taking pictures. It seems to be tapering off. Ours isn't heavy. It's more of a powder. But I haven't tried to shovel any yet.

Neighborhood grocery store is looking pretty wiped out. Like looters struck it.

monster 02-10-2010 03:33 PM

I guess I better go finish shovelling the plow's droppings before beest gets home in 45 minutes.

lumberjim 02-10-2010 04:10 PM

it had better fucking stop here soon. I dont want to be out there in the dark shoveling this shit. stoopit sideways snow.

also, Fords are shit. how is this weak ass Expedition stuck in my driveway at a 12% grade? crappy ass CAR tires on it's rented ass is how.

Trilby 02-10-2010 04:12 PM

wow. You guys are getting the full experience. Blessings on your heads and shovels. damn - you'll be stuck for a while. dam.

Undertoad 02-10-2010 04:27 PM

Local TV spent all day covering it with roving reporters, and this exchange was notable:

We're live here in Mays Landing, New Jersey. Not many people braving the snow today, but here are some young women walking across the Wawa parking lot. Let's talk to them.

Why are you ladies out in this blizzard today?

"We're walking to the liquor store."

Ah, so not many plans?

"We're gonna get blitzed and fall asleep."

A special snow night for you then.

"No, it's our regular routine."

Katkeeper 02-10-2010 05:02 PM

LOL. Like the guys who drink through hurricanes. Meanwhile, here in South central PA Route 15 is also closed and 581 and no doubt 30. But my driveway is open. Just can't go anywhere!

Cloud 02-10-2010 05:07 PM

Ha! made me laugh. Hope everyone is okay. It's pretty nice out here (although overcast right now).

lumberjim 02-10-2010 05:57 PM

yeah,,funny ....eabod

and screw you, old man winter!

classicman 02-10-2010 07:23 PM

All the major highways were closed at around 2:00 - I hear it is to last throughout the night so they can reopen for rush hour. Rush hour??? I'll be making a very slow move, at best, to the phone to call out. There will be no rushing.

Oh and even if the main roads are clear, I couldn't get out of my development anyway.

lumberjim 02-10-2010 08:08 PM

it's STILL coming down!

holy shit Houston. Holy mother of Fuck.
It's piled up above my fence....the fucking yard is 3 1/2 feet deep!

there's a plow truck stuck in the snow across the street. ...and I was hoping he'd get my car out! d'oh!

lumberjim 02-10-2010 08:13 PM

fuck.... I'm gonna go help him....

classicman 02-10-2010 08:15 PM

Fuck this motherfucking snow - I've had it! I've shoveled my driveway 5 times already and the shit is still coming. I can't reach high enough to pile the crap anywhere anymore and the goddamn plow just came through and buried me again. Fuuuuuhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!

xoxoxoBruce 02-10-2010 08:15 PM

Just before it started in earnest last night, some big-assed snow blowers from western PA arrived. The Gov figured since there was nowhere to push it, they might have to throw it. The last time I saw one of them down this way, it broke down by my mailbox, trying to clear the hollow where it had drifted in 10 ft deep.

If this heavy wet snow was as light as the stuff we had last weekend, it'd be at least a foot deeper. We're already over 70 inches for the winter (6 inches more than Buffalo), and more coming Monday or Tuesday. Fuck groundhogs.:p

Neighbors down the street had a pot luck last night. It was so good to get out of the house and talk to some people. We were able to find the ingredients to make a quiche, and we showed up with a bottle of wine and jar of peanuts too. Nice party. Storms like this are great for bringing the neighborhood together. It was fun to compare notes.

This morning, a plow woke me up! Arlington is finally figuring out how to deal with this stuff. We got a paper too.

No work for the 4th day in a row.

We've had the kids working on their science fair projects, but feel like we need to get them doing some more work. They are getting more time off from these storms than they got for Christmas break.

bluecuracao 02-11-2010 09:22 AM

Our office out in the deep burbs is open today. But SEPTA warns of hour-long delays on their regional rail trains, none of the buses are running out there, and the cab company I use sometimes instead of the bus is not answering the phone.

So, looks like I'm on Day 2 of working at home. :)

How can I be sure they shoveled out my parking spot at work?
I ain't doing it.
Not my job.
I better wait till tomorrow just to be sure.
I wouldn't want to get the shovel guy in trouble.
Selfless? That's the way I roll. ;)

jinx 02-11-2010 10:28 AM

I would prefer to gtfo, but the gym is closed and I'm all groceried up. Damn.

xoxoxoBruce 02-11-2010 10:32 AM

We just have to get through tomorrow. Our school department put a bunch of ideas for all ages on their website. We had been working on science fair projects due in a week, but these posted ideas were helpful.

We taught our 5th grade daughter how to balance a checkbook, and when she made a mistake, I created a statement from the bank for her to check it against and made her find the mistake and fix it. She reacted exactly the same we I do when I get a bank statement and it doesn't match. But she wasn't happy when she saw the extra fictitious $400 in the account like I would be in real life.

For art, they both made mailboxes that they put on their doors and one on our door. We've been writing letters to each other all day. They love it.

i didn't, either

It was a frozen wall of ice at 10:20 when I got home.

I'm out of here at 1Pm, and that is going to be my workout instead of my usual trip to the Gym. hopefully it will be softened up a bit by then.

More snow might be coming to greater Philly on Monday/Tuesday.

Undertoad 02-12-2010 11:12 AM

No, that storm has been cancelled. Next one is next weekend.

What, did it double-book or something?

It was having a good time down South and decided to stay there.

Thar reminds me. Yesterday, I saw a flock of geese flying south. Aren't they a little late?

Shawnee123 02-12-2010 02:10 PM

I don't think geese actually fly south, unless there's a lake or something a mile or so south.

I should know, I live by the river and about once a week I swear there's a goose convention, every day there's at least a smattering.
