Finally saw it. Its much better than the last one. It was a pretty good wrap up of the story. I'm suprised the Republicans are not up in arms about soon to be Lord Vader quoting George Bush.
|
I don't remember that, but then again I don't pay much attention to Bush either.
|
I'll have to see it again but doesn't Ani say "You are either with us or you are against us in the fight against terror" ... maybe its just a real close paraphrase. Lucas scored a few easy points, of course he also conflates the Republic with democracy ;)
|
"if you are not with me, you are my enemy". close enough to be considered a GWB reference. i still like Padme's line along the lines of "so this is the sound of liberty's death - thunderous applause." very appropriate.
edit: i realized after being quoted that i misspelled libertiesiesies. es. |

i got pissed at work today so i shut the office down and went to the movies. i saw star wars again. it is growing on me.
i saw something today that gave it a couple of cool points. in one of the Coruscant scenes they show a freighter land. it just happens to be the exact same model as the Millenium Falcon. |
Without the upgrades! :)
Another neat thing is the shear number of different flyers /weapons etc.. That was a brilliant way to flex the high tech muscle without explaining away the x-wing and tie fighters. I dislike R2D2 hopping out of craft on his own however. |
yeah - they really screwed up on the R2 bit IMO. if R2 was so high tech then, why was he so relatively low tech and slow moving 20 years later?
i guess it is just a movie, so we shouldn't pick on incongruities, but don't you think that Obi Wan (episode IV) might have remembered C3PO and R2 considering how much time he spent with them in episodes I,II,III? that part was never explained away. ;) |
Between the years of Episode 3 and 4, the Empire is in control and the technology is degrading. R2 does quite a few cool things in Ep 3 that aren't within his capability in Ep 4.
They did clarify why 3PO didn't recognize Obi-Wan, though ... they left R2's memory intact, but it was probably damaged or degraded over the 20 years of mysterious goings on we don't know about that are poorly explained in the opening credits. Thinking ... didn't Obi-Wan say in Ep 4 he never owned droids? I don't think he got specific about having known any ... Yes, I did think this through prior to this post. I am that much of a Star Wars Geek. |
so am i wolf. i have in fact started giving my star wars toys to my son. my wife is astonished at all the shite. i'll have to snap some pics soon so you can all ridicule me.
|
I don't have a lot of action figures, but I have other stuff ...
Original Darth Vader poster, plus the one from Empire with Vader and two Stormtroopers against a red background. A set of Star Wars Sheets. 14" Darth Vader Action Figure. Darth Vader Keychain. Star Destroyer Keychain with light and sound action. C3PO watch, still in blisterpack. Star Wars Picture Disc, The Story of Star Wars. LPs of Sountracks of Star Wars and Empire Comic Book adaptations of Star Wars, Empire and Jedi. Stuffed Watto that my boss' wife gave me Novelizations of all the movies (still have to get the new one) Amazing piles of other crap that I can't bring to mind just this minute. |
Got an email this morning from CGNetworks (Computer Graphics) that talked about Revenge of the Sith.
