Probably the angle that we are all human (I'm not so sure around here  ) and as such should help all other humans.
Nice ideology but breaks down in practical application.
That's why I prefer to help those I can on a one to one basis rather than throwing money at organized charities or having the (shudder) government involved. :)

 If we all helped each other one on one we wouldn't need mass involvement. But one person can't make a difference, right?

mr noodle you're mad. you see the logic of superfluous thought capacity but still believe in god?

What's the purpose of your existence?

If any.

To continue generating experience as a self-reflexive sensory organ for the God from whom I grew (and perhaps became detached)? Maybe. I oscillate between an ill-defined existentialism and uncertain panentheism with mystical hopes and nihilistic bad days. Mostly, though, I just want to be happy and help others do the same. I like sex, books, and horror movies, and if I could find the meaning of life somewhere in there I'd be very happy. I guess like most people I'm just making it up as I go along and hoping for the best.

in which order? choose wisely, your future may depend upon it.

Carnivean 03-19-2005 02:55 PM

That's almost as difficult as figuring out the meaning of life.

yes, i'm still rereading The Gunslinger series. I'm on volume The Wolves of Calla now. all this because of the thread about what technologies would survive the fall...

Sorry to resurrect an ancient thread...but, lookout, I was just curious what you thought of the series. I just finished #4. I read the first three many moons ago.

Is it normal to take 16 years to get through a series of novels?

Lamplighter 08-15-2010 03:46 PM

Why ? - Because I chose my parents wisely

Actually I love the whole series of books. In fact, I might reread them again.

not unusual given the ... tectonic pace at which they were released to the general public.

and worth re re reading. I read them many many moons and moods ago, and when each new one was released, I liked to go back to the first one and read them all again in order so the big finale (the current most recent book) would be a fresh ending and the story would be fresh too.

My 19 yr old G-daughter seems to be going off on a philosophical bent.
