I ran with libertarian anarchist because the political meaning of liberal has pretty much been corrupted on both sides of the aisle. I see a lot of folks on the left going with progressive now. I don't know if its just a Bill Moyers thing or a back to the roots thing? You have to control the language to control the argument, I guess.

flippant 10-10-2004 01:01 PM

As for me I think Bill Moyers (I don't usually watch television anymore) was shocking when I saw one of his shows. I believe he has swung over into the deep right and is pulling that off with a resounding Thud. Correct me if I am wrong......but he seems vapid and tired. As far as sides of the aisle Griff, I am watching the left and have enough objectivity to see more than two. To say there are only two is to minimize the inherent creativity of the individuals involved. If fascist is progressive I think you can count Bill M. in. Or maybe he's just a Burn Out? Maybe Burn Out should be an option in this poll? Some people still have dreams.....and it seems to me the left is still fighting for those dreams while trying to go rounds with the current riddle wrapped around a nightmare. This country is being ripped apart.

On this one I must disagree with you, Flip. Re-read Moyer's speech on "Inequality matters" and tell me if that is a document from the far right. I don't think so unless the far Right has suddenly gone Liberal without telling the rest of us about their sudden conversion experience.

Griff 10-11-2004 06:41 AM

I really have no idea what flip is saying.

Have you confused Bill Moyers with Bill O'Reily perchance? Far as I've seen weekly, Moyers is still my rock solid rational, thinking liberal.

flippant 10-11-2004 07:41 PM

Like I said, I saw only one program.....but he was hugging a muslim that presides over a group called Muslim's for Bush....repeatedly calling him "his man" and ignoring the liberals on the panel the entire show.....Seemed cheap and maybe needs to go into my new irony thread. At least you can watch O'reilly's eyebrows flit around like a frightened animal. I may be confusing Bill's if he is Not the man with his own show on comedy central.......
note: If I did indeed accuse the wrong Bill feel free to falsely accuse me of something as ridiculous. :D

warch 10-11-2004 08:00 PM

Bill Moyers is a 70 something broadcaster, former LBJ White House Press Secretary who has a terrific show, along with David Brancaccio on PBS called "NOW". www.pbs.org/now
Perhaps you mean Dave Chappelle?! :)

Clodfobble 10-11-2004 08:13 PM

I think she's talking about Bill Maher, although he hasn't had his show on Comedy Central for quite awhile.

elSicomoro 10-11-2004 08:15 PM

PI left Comedy Central at the end of 1995 and went to ABC in January 1996.

flippant 10-12-2004 11:15 AM

Ah-Haaaah! Maher not Moyer! Thank You! Yeah, and I like Moyer! geez...I better go watch more television my knowledge of the talky-heads has hit an all time low.
This may be on or off topic, but I got to show Dubl-ya my stars and stripes color wheel this morning. I feel better now.

Happy Monkey 10-12-2004 11:29 AM

Bill Maher is no right winger either. On his HBO show, he trashes Bush regularly. He's no fan of the Democrats either, but his choice abuse is reserved for the Bush administration.

flippant 10-12-2004 03:54 PM

The only show I saw he was siding with the Muslims for Bush org. Is this a regularity on his show? He wasn't bashing Bush. He even claimed that the head of that org. was "ballsy" for standing up in that way. Made him proud as he ignored the other panelists. The liberals were invited onto the show but were unable to cut in between the commorodary. One of the panelists even mentioned something about it, but got no response but a small laugh. I saw only one show (as previously stated) but the intial impression I got was not good.....and I'm not going to go get cable to see how ignorant I am of his true persuasion. I live with a comedian and get tired of jokes that aren't funny bouncing off me until I feel blessed to hear one of the few good ones. (it helps her put an act together) Seems like he's offering more of the same. Does he write his own material?

I don't feel like looking up that word so yes I know a spelling error was made. :greenface

Happy Monkey 10-12-2004 04:09 PM

How long ago was this? I only started watching when he moved to HBO, but I wouldn't be surprised if at some specific point he liked a particular right winger more than the liberals on that episode - he's been hot and heavy with Anne Coulter more than once. But remember that this is the guy who was fired from ABC for making a statement that was deemed not patriotic enough. He's plenty willing on specific issues to take on the liberals, but he sides with them for the most part.

His show is good, but not worth getting HBO for. However, his show combined with the Sopranos, the Wire, Carnivale, Six Feet Under, and reruns of Mr. Show are. :)

I voted liberal, democrat/MOR and socialist. I believe in choice and balance without denying nature's basic inequalities. Survival of the fittest baby: pinko commies bugger off with your outdated impracticable egalitarian notions, and fascist farm animals likewise with your distorted neurotic ramblings.

I get frustrated when people ask about political leanings. Surely there's only one way - the right way - which is democratic, balanced and unfair.
